Official: Cardi B’s ‘Bodak Yellow’ Hits #1 On Billboard Hot 100 / Rapper Breaks Record

Published: Monday 25th Sep 2017 by Sam

Cardi B has done it! Officially.

The year’s biggest breakout star has cemented her ascend by snatching the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with ”

She’s making more than money moves, she’s making history.

Find out how below…

In hitting the top spot, Cardi becomes the first female rapper to top the Hot 100 chart solo in nearly 19 years. The last being Lauryn Hill’s ‘Doo Wop (That Thing),’ which reigned for two weeks in November 1998.

Cardi, born Belcalis Almanzar, becomes the fifth female rapper ever to lead the Hot 100 at all.

[Besides Hill, all of the other entries had features or were features. Case in point Lil’ Kim (‘Lady Marmalade’); Shawnna (on Ludacris’ ‘Stand Up)’, and Iggy Azalea (‘Fancy ft. Charli XCX).

The former ‘Love & Hip-Hop’ star is also the first female soloist to top the Hot 100 with a debut song sans a feature artist since Meghan Trainor‘s ‘All About That Bass’ in 2014.

So how did Cardi do it?

For the latest tracking week ‘Bodak’  amassed 46.4 million U.S. streams, 56,000 downloads, and 62 million all-format audience impressions at radio.

*********

Huge congratulations to Cardi! The achievement is wholly deserved. A win for not only her but the culture at large.

Yeah she’s just the same as all the other Hiphop guys & she talks about taking your man in the song yeah that’s something young girls should be learning. I’ll pass.

      God is good!!!

    • meme September 25, 2017

Nicki been on the charts for 10 yrs now, with 736261237 hit singles. Shes not bothered by a new rapper with 1 hit single. Lets keep supporting Cardi and hope she can have 1 yr of success. That’s the real question.

      • China September 25, 2017

BISH shut the FU. CARDI rocks. NUMBER 1 hunnie. Nicki has had a great run looking like the clown in IT with her skin bleaching and fake body and fake hair — she a clown. CARDI rocks

      • Adele4Life September 25, 2017

How many if those 736261237 Nicky singles have hit #1m

    • Bish in Africa September 25, 2017

Duhhh !! Let’s hope she could keep the fire burning where’s Iggy

      • Fancy BISH September 25, 2017

Iggy has the longest running #1 rap song by a female rapper of ALL TIME with seven weeks…so THROW SOME RESPEK ON HER NAME lol

      • The Wig Snatcher September 25, 2017

        lmao

    • Terny September 25, 2017

      Lmao??????

  4. The Wig Snatcher September 25, 2017

Poor HOnika!!! I predicted this!!! Cardi got a #1 on her first official single. How many singles Nicki got by now, 100? LMMFBGAO

    • Ocean September 25, 2017

      THE GAAAG! …

Shows quality not quantity Bih! …

Nicki jumping on all these tracks remixing lyrics (rubbish ones at that) …

Nicki has some good work but she does way too much rubbish in between for ratings …

It’s time for the new generation of female rappers now like Dreezy, Dej loaf, Young Ma, Sya, Jazz Anderson .. even Azealia Banks .. I need Malibu Mitch to get signed asap ..

      • ThatGuy September 25, 2017

Yes, it would be so dope if Nicki endorsed or signed Malibu!! She reminds me so much of Nicki when she was younger!

      • The Wig Snatcher September 25, 2017

        Preach!!!

  5. Jeans September 25, 2017

?????????History made! Congrats Cardi!!!! SLAY! Somewhere Nicki is sittin in the corner with her head between her legs. ???

    • Fancy BISH September 25, 2017

    • The Wig Snatcher September 25, 2017

Go right ahead and save this thread for Nicki’s next flop too.

    • Ocean September 25, 2017

      ????…

Nicki has releaaaed about 15 records this past year ..

they’ve gained hot 100 entries … how many top 40? How many top 20? .. how many top 10?

Nicki debut album was her best … it’s been downhill ever since

  7. Jeans September 25, 2017

Didn’t think she would do it honestly, but she did! So happy for her!!

  8. jane September 25, 2017

poor nicki! after more than 74 singles and features she could not do it.

this is a huge L for nicki.

congrats to Cardi the new queen of Rap

    • Fancy BISH September 25, 2017

All I gotta say about Onika is BEAUTIFUL GOWNS *Aretha voice* LOL #SlaydakYellow

  9. whut September 25, 2017

Congrats to her! Don’t like the song personally, but congrats still in order for the culture. And people might disagree, but I think it was Janet’s milly rock video going viral that helped Cardi fight off Taylor & Sam for that #1 lol. #BlackGirlMagic

  10. Jeans September 25, 2017

Her first and only more than likely. Hope I’m wrong!

    • The Wig Snatcher September 25, 2017

But Nicki had over 90 chances to get her first #1. Lol

  11. IG: Mixedboy September 25, 2017

    So happy for her!!!

    • Fancy BISH September 25, 2017

      Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas

  12. ??? September 25, 2017

lol congrats to cardi, but all these new “fans” of hers might wanna sit with the nicki-is-over comments. iggy azalea’s first song went #1, and y’all said that was the end of nicki too, so…..lmao.

    • ThatGuy September 25, 2017

Exactly! Every year there’s a new chick that’s “going to take Nicki’s spot” ? last year it was young M.A, the year before that it was Dej Loff, the year before that it was Iggy, the year before that it was Azealia Banks, keys, etc..

Nicki isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. & that’s fine because they can all coexist.

Congrats to Cardi, this is her moment & she definitely deserves it! but let’s not get crazy here.

      • Pat September 25, 2017

Cardi is more marketable and has a bigger machine behind her than any one of those rappers you just listed. Except for iggy who was never embraced by the hip hop community! Cardi is everything the industry was looking for when Nicki went pop, and her ass got signed quick! Just face it, female rappers never last. They all come and go, some sooner than others. Nicki is 90% pop so unfortunately her time is up sooner. Cardi is the industry’s new “it” girl.

  13. meme September 25, 2017

I love how everyone was coming together to stream at once to make this happen. I even saw a few Ads pop up on IG and some popular IG people I follow made a post to stream. Greta job!

    • September 25, 2017

yes, someone, spend millions to get that song to 1#.

  14. Bish in Africa September 25, 2017

So happy she did that happier it’s her debut single

  15. Terny September 25, 2017

    Not surprised it’s a bop! ???????#NewQueen

  16. Mother September 25, 2017

C’mon Cardi!!!!!!! I’m not here for this song but I’m here for this woc snatching that number 1 and blocking those two overrated white artists. ????????

  17. The Wig Snatcher September 25, 2017

It’s a good thing that DJ Self didn’t take Cardi B seriously because the right people did, and Cardi is on top of the world!!!

    • HokeyPokey September 25, 2017

YESSSSSSSS U BETTER SAY THAT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!!!!!!!!! I Know DJ Self Is Cringing Right Now! A DOZEN Eggs On His Face

  18. Jeans September 25, 2017

Welp, cheers to one song that will ALWAYS make it on her tour setlist! One that she will perform until she is 70 yo! ??

    • The Wig Snatcher September 25, 2017

LOL..:you’re so shady and I am gaggin!

  19. cocobutta September 25, 2017

Janet Milli Rockin to it didn’t hurt! Would be cool if janet was on a remix

  25. Karla September 25, 2017

    ??Congratulations Queen Cardi B??

  26. S****** Blonde September 25, 2017

I’m the only one here who doesn’t know who she is, i haven’t even heard the song, how could this girl be #1 on the hot 100 and not be famous is beyond me.

    • JOHNVIDAL September 25, 2017

If you are now living in Sweden now it is normal that you still don´t know her. It´s a new girl in America. Plus rap rarely makes it to Europe like that really. I have to say I still have not listened to the song either.

    • Cory September 25, 2017

Honestly, you probably don’t live in America. This song has been EVERYWHERE this summer. I can’t walk down a street without hearing it SOMEWHERE everyday! I knew it would be #1.

    • Jasmine September 26, 2017

@S****** Stop lying ugly troll. You know you heard the song b|tch! You keep commenting on Cardi B articles trying to hate because she is not white and you commented when Janet danced to the song so the proof is right there ugly heshe b|tch.

  27. stan September 25, 2017

YES! I’M SO HAPPY SHE DETHRONED TAYLOR SNAKE.

  28. Achooo! September 25, 2017

Congratulations! She beat my girl Missy Elliot. Womp! Fix a Flat Nicki somewhere throwing tantrums!

  29. JOHNVIDAL September 25, 2017

For someone who is supposedly doing it so big in the uSA like Taylor Swift and with all the help that nowadays streaming scene provides artists with hype and media on their side like her… her stay at the top of singles charts was very basic.

    • TheReal September 25, 2017

Cuz that song was all hype and no substance like the one replacing it

  30. Kendrick Slaymar September 25, 2017

Cardi’s been doing music for a minimum of three years. She used over $50,000 of her own money when no one wanted to work with or sign her. She could’ve easily attached herself to a well established music family like Nicki did with Cash Money, hopped on to d*** ride the most famous street rapper at the time (Gucci Mane) or choose the manager of the woman who’s entire swag she hijacked (Lil’ Kim/Big Fendi) but she chose to get it on her own.

    • Bodak Yellow September 25, 2017

Come thru FACTS!! Cardi didn’t have to be the “female version” of some male rapper to make it. All alone with no features. When will that other one do it?

      • Electrikblue September 25, 2017

Lol. I’m just thinking at least Nicki is living her dreams y’all came on here to talk about Nicki. At least she had a number 2 song. So full of hate and negativity.

    • Jasmine September 26, 2017

I don’t think there is anything wrong with either way of making it into the business. Congrats to Cardi, and all female rappers.

  31. Kendrick Slaymar September 25, 2017

Because Nicki is always using her chart success to put down other female rappers. So when someone finally bests her at her own game, people are going to remember that and taunt her for it. She’s just getting back all the energy she puts out there.

    • Cory September 25, 2017

I agree with this here! I don’t hate or love Nicki, but I can respect her. However, I do agree, she tries to use her stats to put down other artists…. when in actuality her stats aren’t impressive. Over 80 entries but over 80% of them have peaked below the top 50 and/or stayed on the Hot 100 for just a week or two.

    • HokeyPokey September 25, 2017

      THANK YOU!!! School These Piglets

  32. Lmao September 25, 2017

Anybody who’s mad that Bodak Yellow went #1 can look no further than Nicki. She was the main one championing for streams to count as record sales and airplay. Ki cackle ki

  33. Sia September 25, 2017

Comparing Cardi’s #1 to Laurens #1 is just plain dumb. 80% of music made today don’t have an ounce of the substance music in the 90’s had. A lot of artist today. Worry more about quantity over quality. Nicki included.
If Nicki had made this same achievement the same arguments made against Cardi could be made against her too. Pick any Nicki song and put it up against any Lauryn Hill song and she will fall ridiculously short.
With that being said Cardi B did something that female rappers failed to do for 20 years. She deserves to be congratulated.

  34. Karamel September 25, 2017

    Well deserved!

  35. Tokyo Vanity fan September 25, 2017

    Congrats Cardi

  36. Keith September 25, 2017

Congrats to Cardi B on making history; if Janet had any impact – that’s a wonderful thing; but am I the only one who feels “one-giant-hit-wonder” whispering in the background? I could be wrong but i have a hard time seeing CardiB in the music game in 3-5 years. Perhaps tv, bodysuits, perfume, wigs, etc…

  37. DanYiel Iman September 25, 2017

Wow I couldn’t stand the beat so much I ignored it time after time then it was programmed into my head & I downloaded the song for .69 ??‍♂️

  38. Sza September 25, 2017

    When will Nicki?

    • Fancy BISH September 25, 2017

      ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️

  39. Markjones September 25, 2017

“They say numbers don’t matter but when they discussing the kings…… they turn around and say Lebron ain’t 6 rings” it’s not the fact that she got a #1 but that she made history l. Nicki was suppose to do that but got the big head and now here is some humble pie because she always bragging about her records that she broke and now someone has broke a record she couldn’t do . Proud of Cardi … ready to see what the other female rappers are gonna do next …. great time for music right now !

  40. Nicki A Goat not G.O.A.T September 25, 2017

    Seething bratz everywhere.

  41. We are the grandchildren of the slaves you couldn’t kill – tyler September 25, 2017

Yess Cardi! Let’s do it for the culture

  42. Your Name September 25, 2017

    SCREAMING!!! Congrats Cardi <3

  43. Boytoy1814 September 26, 2017

Didn’t hurt that Janet Jackson was dancing 2 “Bodek Yellow” onstage as well. Very happy 4 Cardi!!
She’s in the Female Hip Hop Legendary Lane now!!! #WellDeserved
