Selena Gomez is reportedly in talks to join ABC’s ‘American Idol‘ reboot.
How the social media community and the show’s audience has responded?
Details and their responses below…
Katy Perry bagged a sweet $25 million to lead the new judging panel and this, according to some sources, has forced producers to work within a tight budget to find two or three other musically-inclined celebs to fill the remaining spots.
The latest name thrown into the mix? Ms. Gomez.
Alas, those who had hoped news of her potential union with the series would be met with applause were shocked to discover that there are many who feel she is unqualified/underserving of the position.
Imagine auditioning for American Idol and Selena Gomez tries to give you advice on how to sing or tells you that you can’t sing. https://t.co/5zhyMNB71o

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Selena Gomez can’t sing. She knows her sound but she just doesn’t have the vocals to be that girl.

I want to like Selena Gomez but 1. She can’t sing 2. She’s an awful representation of the Hispanic community

What we think the problem may be? The machine erected to turn Gomez into a bonafide superstar has done more to support her role as a public figure than a respected Pop vocalist.
Though we can’t say we agree with the comments above, we do think they explain why the star’s numbers aren’t as high as they should be (considering her A list status).
Do we think she’s deserving of her an ‘Idol’ role? Definitely. For she is, in many ways, a contemporary American idol and undoubtedly has a great deal of knowledge and experience to offer a new wave of Pop hopefuls.
