New Song: Sam Smith – ‘Burning’

Published: Thursday 26th Oct 2017 by Sam

Sam Smith is marching on with momentum to the release of sophomore album ‘The Thrill Of It All.’

Set to land at retail and streaming services on November 3rd, the project is hotly tipped to be one of the year’s biggest offerings. A stance the success of lead single ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ certainly lends credence to.

Now, the 25-year-old is serving up a taste of what else to expect with the arrival of ‘Burning.’

A haunting piano ballad, Smith has gone on record to bill the Poo Bear production his “favorite” from the LP.

Take a listen below…

As premiered on BBC Radio 1:

The lyric and the vocal is where the song succeeds.

Smith’s pen game once again proves potent in that it manages to convey piercing narratives that feel personal yet mass consumable by way of melody. He punctuates this with a stellar vocal showing; spotlighting the rich tone and texture of his vocal in the process.

It must be said, though, that the we’re salivating for more variety from his production. Because thus far they’re all sounding rather samey (see: ballads with a choir at climax).

Still, we remain buzzed for ‘The Thrill Of It All.’ Are you?
