The Numbers Are In! Tamar Braxton’s ‘Blue Bird Of Happiness’ Sold…

Published: Friday 6th Oct 2017 by Sam

Tamar Braxton will fly the flag for R&B on this week’s Billboard 200. At least as far as new releases go.

The final numbers have been tallied. Find out what the singer’s new album ‘Blue Bird Of Happiness’ sold first week below…

Per Hits Daily Double, the LP – which is reportedly Braxton’s “last” – will open at #14 after shifting the following…

While not making the top 10 will be sore for Tamar and her Tamartians, there are still a few positive angles to approach her placement from.

First is that ‘Blue Bird’ serves as the highest-charting new R&B release of the week; a fact which should bode well for its chances on the genre-specific tally.

Also, as an independent project, her revenue returns are likely to be more than many of her major label counterparts.

And finally, in today’s sales climate, albums are essentially released as a vehicle to tour (see where the real coins are) – and Tamar already has that base covered. Viewed through this lens, she’s fine and will be (fine) moving forward.

One does have to wonder, though: if so few are buying now, what does that mean for the sales of her her inevitable next album – which will no doubt be billed as the “because my fans demanded it” comeback? Needless to say, we’ll cross that bridge when it’s time.

For now, though, what are…

Your thoughts?

I actually think it’s bite worthy that almost 100% of her numbers are pure sales. I can’t believe 20k ppl brought her album

  2. DanYiel Iman October 6, 2017

    I purchased a few singles…

Number 1 R&B album on Billboard isn’t to sneeze at. So many want careers built fast, nothing wrong with a slow burn…especially if you have the talent to sustain.

    • AmbeRussell October 7, 2017

Slow?! The girl is damn near there 40. Her issue is this false idea of her greatness. She has a show on WeTv, talk show was a low budget, random guess having type show and her tours were a scaled down Beyonce tour. All of this is great, but they tried too hard to make her out to be this mega star, when she wasn’t. Saying her song was #1 on iTunes, but song peaked at 57 on the official billboard charts. There was too much manipulation to make her out to look superior than she really is.

I think this album is great, and I’m sure it will keep going up the charts, she needs to release one of the faster singles to radio to generate some more interest, once they hear it, they will like it

Actually not bad, for an Independent released R&B album with limited promo & limited budget. And most of her sales are pure/physical purchases? That’s definitely not bad….considering the poor music climate we’re in where everyone streams & illegally downloads. She did good, all things considered. Haven’t even promoted all that much, yet.

  6. Casual-T October 6, 2017

Actually, these are good numbers considering that this album isn’t being pushed by a hit single. Plus, she beat the initial projections. More, being indie means she gets a much larger piece of the pie. It’s somewhat concerning that her streaming numbers are so low, but I chalk that up to the fact that her followers and natural audience are incongruent. Her millions of social media followers skew much younger than her, while her album targets the grown and s***. I mean, can you imagine if Tamar Braxton had released Sorry Not Sorry? TB needed a crossover smash, which was missing from this album.

      Awesome point!

    • Anna October 8, 2017

If Tamar did SNS she wouldn’t get the radio play tho….guess why? That’s why I’m boycotting pop stars like wannabe blk demo and Nick jonas

  7. The Wig Snatcher October 6, 2017

Sam just clocked the heck out of her in that last paragraph, and I must agree with her.

  8. LiveYoLife2017 October 6, 2017

Well what she expect when she doesn’t promote it? The singles were not all that, and neither were the videos. Her last two albums were great but this one was a bore. Too bad its her last album. smh

The music industry is suffering and especially R&B. R&B is becoming extinct like Rock music has been but without the loyalty aspect rock fans give.

I will admit that I didn’t listen to the album in it’s entirety but I do love “Wanna Love You Boy”.

Check out Def Jam’s newest artist named DaniLeigh in her new single “Play”. Her EP slays too, she’s gonna get big very soon!

Bluebird sold more than Fergie….both in digital+streams AND in pure sales. And Ferg got hits, big name features like Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross & YG on the album to help her out, and a big major label machine behind her.. and she still sold less than Tamar who released independent with no hits and no features, to help. So Tamar definitely didn’t do bad…..at all. #justsayin lol

    • #TeamTinashe Stan (DaniLeigh “Summer With Friends” Is Out ???) October 6, 2017

Fergie’s album was an independent release…

      • Kaz October 10, 2017

Even if it was, Fergie is a much bigger name with more hits and more big name features on her album than Tamar. And still sold less. That’s the point. Tamar sales ain’t bad all things considered and compared.

  11. Theman October 6, 2017

This is great for her. These numbers are basically all pure sales.. She didn’t have a huge urban hit, little promo & no major behind her. If she could get about three solid radio hits, major promo, more push things would be amazing.. And she should discount her album..

  12. Anthony October 6, 2017

Regardless of how you feel about Tamar’s personality, if you’re an R&B fan and you don’t like the album you’re a hater. Idc Idc. At the very least you have to respect her talent as a vocalist. Congrats to her, I purchased.

    • Jasmine October 7, 2017

Nonsense I love RnB but like most people everyone’s voice does not do it for me. That does note make one a hater.

    • Kaz October 10, 2017

Right. Just like her last album, which was truly an R&B GEM. Real R&B music for R&B lovers. Haters gon hate.

    • Gerrie October 11, 2017

I didnt like the commit she made when she was asked did toni paved the way for her and she had to much pride to say yes she did nd that she thanks her, but instead she said that toni did not.two me toni did pave the way for her.!! And she thinks that she is the bumm..she’s not making anymore music because they arent selling !!!

      • Tangie October 20, 2017

I agree totally. I also didn’t like the fact when her sister decided to show up and surprise her how she acted on stage and all the things she said off stage. The show was created because of Toni Braxton and we got to see her and learn who she was because of the show so yes Toni did play a part in her becoming the star she is today. Her attitude is horrible and whatever she’s doing her face “lord” . Tamar can actually sing but she’s tries to hard and if she would just calm down and just sing I think she can be amazing.

    • Stacy Robinson October 22, 2017

I can’t rate Tamar has no vocalist, her ass be lip syncing too much times live, she is definitely a studio singer tho. Her voice does nothing to me, my standards maybe too high, but when you are from the era of , Whitney, Toni, Celine, Mariah etc, you know mediocrity when you see ijs

  13. JC October 6, 2017

How how times have changed from 2013 when she stated that her and K. Michelle were not even the same conversation because “Love and War had opened with 114,00 copies and “Rebellious Sou” 72,000.

    • Day October 7, 2017

Three grammy nominations she got for love and war too. Still aren’t in the same conversation.

      • Jasmine October 7, 2017

It is childish to count nominations. Tamar will never get a grammy so let it go. Both muppets are equal and way too similar.

      • A Mess A Kii A Cackle October 9, 2017

Yet, she lost a Grammy to Rihanna, and was (still is) bitter about it.

    • Kaz October 10, 2017

Tamar also got GRAMMY NOMS from her last album. So she is right…K. Michelle really AIN’T on her level. Lol. At least Tamar gets noms and acknowleged by THE ACADEMY.

      • Cassandra chen October 22, 2017

K Michelle does numbers. Nobody remember nomination, the way Tamar operates you would think she won at least 1. Lol

  14. Sommer October 6, 2017

    This is bad! LMAOOOOO

  15. Lake Erie October 7, 2017

I have to agree and say too that it was “promotion” against why she received those opening numbers. I think had she really promoted it, she would have maybe done bigger numbers than her last album (over 40k). Which would have been really good considering the climate. I honestly didn’t even know for sure that her album was coming out until maybe 2 weeks before hand. Her L&W album was RAVED about waaaay before the release. It was all over her show and she talked about it a lot in interviews. People really anticipated it. She barely promoted her last and she did ZERO promo in my book for this era. Does any artists (particularly R&B) do GMA anymore? Kimmel/ nightshows? Guest appearances on shows (series)? Daytime shows? Multiple radio interview bookings? Hell, even commercials? Smh… times are really changing smh.. I will say that her idea of touring right now is a good move even though she’s with other ladies. But I also think she could have done a solo tour. It wouldn’t be arena status but despite other negatives, I think A LOT of people would pay to go see her. I hope she does a rerelease to really get the best out of this album, and also factoring in that it’s her last album, why not?… The album is really good! Out of the 10 songs, I LOVE 7 of them.

  16. Girlbye October 7, 2017

Chile please, this album was a low budget snoozefest. Even her first major label record was better than this. And That Shade Juice are here really trying to find the silver lining in this flop. But if it was any other artist they would be shading the f*** out of this chart failure.

  17. but really Y IZ SHE FAMOUS October 7, 2017

I guess the fans are here for mediocre r&b

  18. SMH October 7, 2017

These are FLOP numbers, from ANY angle folks. Save your essays & stop fooling yourselves.

    • Kaz October 10, 2017

R&B is a FLOP genre, so what you expect? No strict R&B artist is doing big numbers these days. Welcome to 2017. Call it flop if you want, but this is the reality.

    • Kaz October 10, 2017

And btw, Tamar STILL sold more than Jhene, Fergie, Tank….and them. So they flopping harder than her. #ThatsTheRealTea

  19. A Mess A Kii A Cackle October 9, 2017

Mess. So ANTI flopped first week when it sold 460 copies first week and still pulled 16K first week (after only a day of tracking), but y’all looking at Tamar “from other angles” when her album only did 23K first week with a full 7-day tracking period? LMAO.

    • Kaz October 10, 2017

Um, RIhanna is POP, boo. Mainstream. Tamar isn’t. That’s the difference. Rihanna is NOT R&B. She’s POP with mainstream audience. Tamar is strict R&B, and if you ain’t mainstream/POP you ain’t selling. Have to keep things in perspective, and in proper context, boo.
