Cardi B Makes Billboard Chart History…Again

Published: Saturday 11th Nov 2017 by Rashad

After driving one of its contributors (Nicki Minaj) into previously uncharted territory in history books [click here to read more about that], ‘MotorSport’ – the Harajuku Barbie’s collaboration with Migos and Cardi B – proves itself to be the gift that keeps on giving.

Just ask Cardi…

This week, thanks to the tune’s #14 debut on the Hot 100 and high placement on other applicable singles’ charts, has seen the rapstress’s name penciled in history books for yet another reason.  As fans know, prior to ‘Motorsport’s arrival she was already the…

  • 1st (and only) female rapper to have a solo Hot 100 #1 hit this century
  • 1st Latina to hit #1 since Shakira‘s ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ topped the charts in 2006
  • 2nd female rapper in history to top the Hot 100 charts solo with her official debut single
  • 2nd woman of color to have a #1 hit this decade
  • Only ‘Love & Hip Hop’ act to score a top 10 hit since the show’s inception in 2011, let alone a #1
  • Longest unaccompanied run at #1 on the Hot 100 by a female rapper [click here to read more]
  • 5th female rapper in history to have a #1 single by any measure (solo or featured):
    • Lauryn Hill – ‘Doo Wop’ (That Thing)
    • Lil Kim – ‘Lady Marmalade’
    • Shawnna – ‘Stand Up’
    • Iggy Azalea – ‘Fancy’
    • Cardi B – ‘Bodak Yellow’

Now, look below to see what impressive achievement she’ll be adding to the growing list above.

Via Billboard:

‘…[Cardi B] becomes the first woman to chart her first three entries on the [Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart] in the top 10 simultaneously.

In addition to being the first woman to see her first three Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs hits occupy the top 10 at once, Cardi is the first artist overall to do so since Fetty Wap in 2015. The triple play also makes Cardi B one of only six women to post three simultaneous top 10s at any point in her career. She joins Ashanti, who started the club in 2002, Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Beyonce and Rihanna.’

Ok no shade but it’s not making history if it’s been done before

    Nicki BROKE ARETHAS Record

that’s not the same as doing something someone did just a few years later

    Ppl keep saying “first since____”
Ok it’s not that many latinas in the American market jlo and Shakira is bout all we got and now Camila

So the only thing that counts is the love and hip hop one (but it’s a known fact most ppl go there once their career dries up)

hmmm that’s precisely the point. a lot of latino artists chart on the latin oriented charts but very few can actually do damage in the hot 100.

All this “Nicki broke Aretha’s crap”…..Aretha Franklin song sangs all by herself and have them at billboard number 1s. Thats not the same as someone spitting two bars on someone else’s song and having it chart. GET AWAY WITH THAT CRAP!!!!!

So rihanna is the only woman of color until bodak yellow? I thought it was easy to have a #1 and anyone could go #1

  4. Justafan November 11, 2017

You forgot to memtion LEAN BACK with Remy that went No.1

    • Cbeylive November 11, 2017

That was as a group so it doesn’t count as a feature or solo feat

    • King z November 11, 2017

REMY doesn’t count as count to wait was group. For all intents and purposes Janelle monae had a #1 too with “we are young” but noone credits her either

      Not even billboard lol

The Barbs was so PRESSED! It’s so comical to watch them RUN to anything Cardi B related. Off this girls’ d***. She’s winning. Sit TF down.

    • Faf November 12, 2017

Notice how u can’t debate the facts so u make it about nicki fans being pressed

Pressed over what? No album? No major awards?

      • Bodaky Yaky November 12, 2017

Well Cardi has a NUMBER ONE on Billboard and kept it for a few weeks. That other girl has never and will never. You’ll deal with it.
