Mariah Carey is famed for her vocal prowess and catalogue of classics, but she’s also notable for penning much of her own music.
So, while her plethora of awards no doubt sit pretty on her mantelpiece, her newly announced nomination for the Songwriters Hall Of Fame could well be one of her most pronounced honors yet.

She joins artists N.W.A, John Mellencamp, Tracy Chapman, Alice Cooper, Jimmy Cliff, the Isley Brothers, Chrissie Hynde, Alan Jackson, Kool & the Gang, Tom Waits and Tom T. Hall.
Non-performing nominees include her longtime collaborator Jermaine Dupri, William “Mickey” Stevenson, Bill Anderson, and Maurice Starr.
Five of the nominees will be inducted officially next year.
The news comes on the heels of JAY-Z‘s historic entry in the Spring; a feat which saw him become the first Hip-Hop act to acheive the honor.

Say what folk will about Mariah, but there’s no denying that she is more than deserving of this.
Who knows, with new management (and hopefully a clearer musical perspective), perhaps her induction (should it happen) could serve as a launchpad for the roll-out of new music (while reminding of her legendary status). We’re rooting for her.

Anyway, this is great news, not only because of Mariah, who is as deserving as any other prolific songwriter. But for all the female SONGWRITERS that release pop music at at least certain points of their careers and that are normally ignored during their entire careers by these type of circuits. Circuits that are definitely more keen on bands, males and certain genres. Which is unfair. It´s the type of circuit Rolling Stone type of critics create. I detest them.

From her debut album she delivers her amazing skills not only like a vocalist, also like songwriter and producer. Im very proud and incredible happy. She totally deserves this nomination! It’s a big honor. I hope she will be inducted!
