Mary J. Blige: “I Dressed Like A Tom Boy To Avoid Sexual Harassment”

Published: Friday 17th Nov 2017 by David

As the critical mass learns of the entertainment industry’s harbouring of several sexual predators the R&B icon Mary J. Blige has revealed that the fear of being abused lies at the heart of her unique sense of style.

Joining the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain for a ‘Hollywood Reporter’ roundtable session to promote her new movie ‘Mudbound‘, Blige admitted that horrors she faced in and out of the industry forced her to conceal her body to protect it from the business’ predators.

Her story below…

What ‘Bound’ is about?

Mudbound is a 2017 American period drama film directed by Dee Rees and written by Rees and Virgil Williams, based on the novel of the same name by Hillary Jordan. It stars Carey Mulligan, Garrett Hedlund, Jason Clarke, Jason Mitchell, and Mary J. Blige. The film follows a pair of World War II veterans who return home to rural Mississippi and must cope with racism and PTSD in their own ways.

What do you think of Mary’s admission?

I love Mary! Her music sounds SO GOOD when it’s freezing cold outside, for some reason lol…I remember being in high school and My Life was just the hottest album ever! We were getting out for Christmas break, and as I was coming out the front doors after school a car was bumping Mary Jane….Ooooh baby, not tonight…LAWD, The Queen ? This was a good interview! Mary is just BOMB lol

Her approach was actually quite smart. When women dress & act tomboyish, it kinda intimidates men because it makes it hard for them to see women like that as weak victims. Kudos Mary.

I disagree. Mary is just not attractive in that way. She has always looked ROUGH. Furthermore, Mary always sold her voice and not her body. In her prime she was very ghetto, on drugs, rouch looking, one of her front teeth was silver, and she had a large ghetto entourage that went EVERYWHERE with her. There was 0 chance of men sexually abusing her or even wanting to because she just was / still is NOT S***. The “tomboy” claim is irrelevant! Aaliyah was a tomboy whe she entered the industry and everyone saw how quick R. Kelly prayed on her at the tender age of 14.

No disrespect to the Mary J Blige crazy stans. Many of them, and Mary J, herself think she is the sexiest woman walking the planet but in reality most people just love her for her vocal talents. Mary has not and could not ever sling s*** appeal. It is all about the voice with Ms. Blige.

Jasmin stfu! Mary is s*** to a lot of men and women so go ahead with that wack a s s statement. Yea Aaliyah was tomboyish but she always showed her midriff or put off a s*** vibe. You’re a clown. I’m gonna keep gagging you on these comments silly goose.

Does it really stop sexual assault? Dressing like a tomboy?!

    • Jasmine November 17, 2017

Not at all. Dressing like a tomboy is just a fashion expression but has not bearing over whether men want to sexually assault you.

Maybe to MARY she felt it would steer guys away from her if she wasn’t showing off her body.
