Published: Monday 4th Dec 2017 by Sam

Ashanti really is leaving no platform untouched in promotion of new single ‘Say Less.’

The R&B star stopped by ‘The Breakfast Club’ to chop it up with Charlamagne and Angela Yee about her comeback and a whole lot more.

During the candid chat, the 36-year-old waxed honest about the hurdles that she’s had to clear in her career – including how Murda Inc‘s implosion drastically changed the course of her career.

She also spoke about stripper-gate, being managed by her mom, not always being credited as a writer in the early days of her career, and much more.

Check it out below…

Great interview.

exactly who is she speaking of when she says shes further ahead than other artist of her time? JLO and Beyoncé, the other 2 it girls at the time, are both 100x more relevant than her.

    • Ocean December 4, 2017

you told no lies … i’d like to know too

      • Notyou December 4, 2017

Are we really going to pretend that there havent been (damn near) hundreds of R&B chicks that have come & gone within the last 15 years? Do i really have to name them all? Now before you finish reading this, google Ashanti’s accomplishments and net worth.

? Now, let’s see; Christina millian, Tamia, Nivea, Blu Cantrell, Mya, lil moe, should I go on? I can name at least 40 others if needed.

Ashanti is doing much better than the aforementioned & very well for herself as an independent artist.

Beyonce and J-lo weren’t the only two relevant artists during the time she came out. so please, have several seats.

        @not you,

Yes there were hundreds of R&B chicks back in those times but there were only 3 woman of color in mainstream music that was at the top. As I mentioned the other 2 are way passed Ashanti’s accomplishments.

You can’t compare Tweet, Amerie and the other girls to Ashanti because Ashanti was WAY bigger than they were. So for her to say she further ahead of girls like them means absolutely nothing. She should be up there with Beyonce.

@meme Nah. Mya was HUGE back then. & you’re comparing Ashanti who is an independent artist to Beyonce who is signed to one of the biggest record labels in the world and she’s married to (arguably) the most successful rapper to ever do it (in terms of music, accolades etc). But low key Ashanti is worth more than 90% of the R&B girls who have come and gone within the three decades. That’s certainly something to brag about! Especially considering that she’s always remained true to her core fan base and she’s never sold out.

Ashanti has always been in the cut, she’s never been one for gimmicks or engaged within fake relationships for notoriety (No shade to ur faves)

At the end of the day, I support any women of color out here making boss moves. Success is success, and any way you spin it, she’s still worth 40 million more than the both of us combined.

Bey is in her own lane. & in terms of talent; I’ll be completely honest Beyonce is way more talented than Ashanti when it comes to vocals & performing & her work ethic is unparalleled. You combine that with the machine she has behind her & its a recipe for success

However Ashanti has a nice voice (she’s no power house) she has a pleasant tone and her writing capabilities are A1! She’s not “mega star” material but she is a star in her own right & she’s very articulate & humble af. Most people in Ashanti’s shoes wouldn’t have even made it this far, they would’ve either of been broke, or married to an athlete or ended up on one of these reality shows.

@NotYou how is Ashanti doing any better than Mya right now?
