Producer: Eminem’s ‘Walk On Water’ Was Originally Meant For Adele, Not Beyonce

Published: Friday 15th Dec 2017 by Rashad

Being one of the best-selling artists in history certainly has its perks.  Ask Eminem who, when seeking female collaborators for his ‘Walk on Water’ single, had his pick of the industry’s top leading ladies.

Who did he choose?  None other than Grammy-winning chart-topper Adele.  But, by the time the single hit the airwaves, it was Beyonce‘s voice blaring from speakers.

How did this come to be?  Find out inside:

In a recent interview with ThisIs50, producer Denaun Porter, who worked on Em’s new album ‘Revival’ (in stores today), said (around the 2:30 mark in the video) Adele was the rapper’s first choice for the ballad.  Unfortunately, due to issues with her voice (as we reported here), she couldn’t commit.

“The first person I heard [who was wanted for the song] was Adele. I think something happened with her with her voice, and she couldn’t do it. […] But then it got to them using Beyonce. My mind was already there. There’s only a couple people that could pull that off.”

See the interview in full below:

The song managed to peak at #14 on the Hot 100 but quickly fell down the charts afterward.  Do you think it would’ve fared better if Adele was featured and not Bey?

    lmao!
Beyoncé better recognize her place as Adele’s “left over queen”
No wonder the song flopped tho’.
It was written for someone who can actually emote when they sing.
Beyoncé can’t find emotion in her voice if her life depended on it.

B**** shut up! Adele fat singing ass CANT sing correctly! That’s y she has to take 4 and 5 year breaks. Those weak vocal cords can’t compete With Beys! Adele understands that she will ALWAYS be #6 under Beyoncé. As you were ???

      • Coolio December 15, 2017

Right shut up beyonces vocals outshines adele first of all adele knows beyonce is queen.

    • ??? December 15, 2017

lmao facts! if em didn’t have that roach screetching on his song it would have been a hit. now she probably sabotaged his albums sales cuz of her basic ass gargling on that flop record lmfaooo??????

  2. Ocean December 15, 2017

I think the impurity in Adele’s voice would have carried it better

Beyonce should have sung the Alicia Keys joint

And then Alicia sing the Skylar or Pink record

It was a bad decision on his part to choose Beyoncé, everything went wrong.

    • Alex December 15, 2017

Not with Adele needing vocal surgery after every album she releases. Girl can’t sing correctly if her life depending on it. Guess everyone can’t be a vocal BEAST like Bey. When has she ever had to have surgery on her vocal cords?? I’ll wait

      • Ashanti #1 Fan December 15, 2017

        F****** dead not vocal surgery

      • S****** Blonde December 15, 2017

Either way no one cares. And Em really tried to get everyone on this album to save it

    • Alex December 15, 2017

You know what, FINALLY someone said exactly what he’s doing!

Adele would have added soul to the song. Nonetheless, Beyoncé is a decent singer. Let’s not discredit her vocal talent entirely.

His songs haven’t been good this year, not with Pink, Beyonce, or just him alone. “Stan” and “Lose Yourself” are still favorites though.

It just isn’t a good song or a good album for that matter. I mean it’s just not in, and being socially conscious is in right now for authentic and unauthentic reasons, but he just didn’t connect. And all of the collabs didn’t help. The message of the song was real and i applaud him because about 3/4 years ago, rappers were getting beside their self and calling themselves Gods, they were kings, they were perfect and everyone else was s*** but his message was very real and relatable. But it didn’t come across that way, and the production was chopping IMHO. Like Beyoncé Chorus and Bridge was very polished but his verses were production trash! It was like he recorded it with an iPhone app!

To me, the song is just weak all the way around. Maybe Adele could have garnered more chart success, but even the best would have struggled to make such a subpar song a hit. I think beyonce should have been used on a more urban track.

  9. ??? December 15, 2017

lmao roach cant chart with her own singles, em should have looked at all the singles she’s flopped for the last decade before choosing her lmfaooo??????

I keep tryna tell yall that Beyonce is not apart of the youngsters crowd. Whenever she gets on certain records—they just don’t do that well—sans the Ed Shereen feature…when is the last time Bey has done a collab w/ a fresh new talent? Maybe it’s time for her to embrace the newer acts—instead of the ‘it’ people of each of her album eras….but I digress—at least she sales albums and tours—which is commendable in itself!

Eminem in full illumarti pose is off putting

  12. DanYiel Iman December 16, 2017

    Oh ok ??

  13. Cyrus December 16, 2017

Adeli ham sandwich needs to much time. Id rather hear a remix with Rihanna as a feature. Beyoncé is just fine. She is just doing a little work until the next album Drops and making moves until Coachelle

  14. Tha Kidd December 17, 2017

That’s right….Blame Bey. Meanwhile, Beyonce was actually praised for the beautiful vocals and lyrics. Are we gonna blame Ed when river under performs? Let’s face it….Em’s verses were trash.
