Michael Jackson Estate Extends Sony Music Record Deal

Published: Thursday 14th Dec 2017 by Sam

Long live the King is much drawn on term. But for the estate of the late great Michael Jackson, it’s one they’re taking literally.

For, they’ve just extended their relationship with Sony Music.

Full story below…

In life, all of Jackson’s adult releases arrived via Sony and will continue as such posthumously.

Released today, a joint statement from the label and MJ’s estate confirmed as much.

Effective January 1st 2018, Sony Music will extend the term of their administration of the King of Pop’s record catalog in a long term recording agreement.  The label will also have the opportunity to partner on additional projects that the Estate may produce during the term of the agreement.

Sony CEO Rob Stringer said:

“Michael Jackson was an unsurpassed genius and an iconic force in music entertainment. The music—and videos—he made as an artist as part of the Sony Music family are essential to pop culture history. We’re proud to be part of that history, and to find new innovative ways to make Michael’s music available to future generations of fans.”

John Branca and  John McClain from Jackson’s estate added:

“We couldn’t ask for more creative and innovative partners than Sony and Rob Stringer (whose history working personally with Michael goes back to the 1990s).  Michael continues to inspire generations of artists who have come after him and attract new fans who understand that his music and message are more important than ever.  We look forward to continuing to preserve and develop his remarkable musical legacy with Sony.”

Thus far, the posthumous portion of Sony’s 42-year partnership with MJ has yielded 2010’s ‘Michael,’ 2014’s well-selling ‘Xscape,’ and this year’s ‘Scream.’ There’s also been licensing of his classic tracks for projects such as the Circus Soleil ‘Immortal’ and an animated CBS movie.

And by the looks of it, there’s whole lot more to come.

The reason I’m glad John Branca was demoted from handling the Prince estate. His interest was always solely on Mj’s estate and always will be.

You people used Michael for years in life and now you continue in death. If you money hungry idiots had been more concerned about MJ and less about what you could make off him he would still be here. Michaels’ fans would have rather had him than all the concerts, cds, dvds, etc. in the world. Why couldn’t some of you greedy a**holes realized that? Haven’t you people used Michael enough? There is a time to say “stop”. We love and miss Michael and he can never be replaced…haven’t you people done enough?
