Drake Debuts At #1 On Hot 100 With ‘God’s Plan’ / Makes Billboard History

Published: Monday 29th Jan 2018 by Sam

Drake has done it.

After dropping two new songs out of the sky last week, the Canadian superstar has premiered atop of the Billboard Hot 100 with one of the cuts – ‘God’s Plan.’ And the other isn’t far behind.

Details below…

The track debuts at #1 on the coveted tally after setting an on-demand streaming record.

‘Plan,’ which arrived as part of the ‘Scary Hours’ EP with ‘Diplomatic Immunity,’ amassed a colossal 82.4 million U.S. streams in its first week.  68 million of said streams were specifically generated on subscription services  – shattering a prior weekly record achieved by Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Humble.’ (44 million in May 2017)

So what other stats mixed together to facilitate the #1?

Well, the cut received 127,000 downloads and a multi-format radio audience of 24 million.

So, as can be seen, Drizzy’s win is most definitely driven by digital domination.

Elsewhere, ‘Diplomatic Immunity’ launches at #7 on the Hot 100 – powered by 28.4 million U.S. streams and 39,000 downloads.

Other Key Stats:

  • ‘Plan’ is Drake’s fourth Hot 100 chart-topper and second as a lead act. He previously hit the top spot with two Rihanna jams – ‘What’s My Name’ (2010) and ‘Work’ (2016) before scoring with ‘Once Dance’ months later.
  • This marks the rapper’s first #1 debut and the 29th every on the Hot 100.
  • Drake becomes the first act in Billboard history to two songs in the top 10 of the Hot 100 simultaneously TWICE. He previously achieved the feat with ‘More Life’ ‘Passionfruit’ and ‘Portland’ – which opened at #8 and #9 respectively last year.

******************

The slayage real.

What Drake may lack in award wins, he more than makes up with by delivering tangible results.

And after a litany of upsets at last night’s Grammys, maybe that ought to be the goal for some of the snubbed.

    • SMH January 29, 2018

Nicki is the female artist and only female rapper with the most Hot 100 entries in HISTORY. Doesn’t look like her career needs any help, thank you.

      • Tori January 29, 2018

Because she’s too busy collecting PLAQUES for PURE SALES. How did going to #1 help Cardi B at the Grammys last night? Exactly.

      • Tori January 29, 2018

She collecting plaques for pure sale yet in 2014 she the MLK for the streaming movement. All she talked about was streams being counted as sales.

      • Tori January 29, 2018

She been collecting plaques for pure sale yet in 2014 she was the MLK for the streaming movement. All she talked about was streams being counted as sales. Finally got her wish and still flopped with added entries on top of what she had. What’s the point of gloating about 90 entries if NONE of them went to #1 in 8 years?

  7. JOHNVIDAL January 29, 2018

This is a joke. He is one of these digital queens. I remember how he stayed at #1 for many weeks over Beyonce on album chart but Beyonce was selling more real units week after week than him. Embarrassing this industry and some stans now.

    • StarXavi January 29, 2018

get with the times and get over it.

      • Theman January 29, 2018

Nope. A streaming sale doesn’t equal to an actual sale. So you get with that. His pure sales are actually great too.

    • Whoops January 29, 2018

@JOHNVIDAL And he blocked Ariana Grande from hitting number 1 with her album even though she was selling more than him too. The charts are a joke.
