Quincy Jones Mocks Taylor Swift?

Published: Wednesday 31st Jan 2018 by David

Quincy Jones isn’t impressed by Taylor Swift’s pen game and he has no problem with letting the world know it!

How the iconic creative responded when told that Swift may be one of the most influential writers of all time?

Mr. Jones sat down for an interview with ‘GQ‘ which soon took a turn for the interesting when Swift’s name was brought up by the interviewing journalist.

Via ‘GQ’:

But, say, Taylor Swift, I guess, is the biggest pop star on the planet in terms of sales right now and this week is about to sell over a million copies of her new album. Do you like her?

Jones makes a face, somewhere between disapproval and disdain.

What’s wrong with it?

‘We need more songs, man. F-cking songs, not hooks.’

Some people consider her the great songwriter of our age.

He laughs. ‘Whatever crumbles your cookie.’

What he feels her music is lacking?

‘Knowing what you’re doing. You know what I mean? Since I was a little kid, I’ve always heard the people that don’t wanna do the work. It takes work, man. The only place you find success before work is the dictionary, and that’s alphabetical.’

So if you were producing a record for Taylor Swift, what would you have her do?

I’ll figure something out. Man, the song is the shit — that’s what people don’t realize. A great song can make the worst singer in the world a star. A bad song can’t be saved by the three best singers in the world. I learned that 50 years ago.’

Plenty of people talk as though Taylor Swift has great songs.

‘But they don’t know, man. They don’t know. I’ve come and gone through seven decades of this shit. Seen all that. Seen how that works. Ignorance is no thing.’”

Swift is yet to respond.

Do you agree with Quincy?

    When did he lie?

  2. Gee January 31, 2018

Mr. Jones spoke how he feels and I agree with him, while I give Taylor credit for finding a lane that works she is like many pop stars today more smoke and mirrors then actual talent.

He’s too old to bite his tongue…he’s worked with the best

  4. China January 31, 2018

    He speaks truth.

  5. Yes January 31, 2018

Well he is old, so of course it’s to be expected that he wouldn’t like her much. My parents don’t like current music much either. I guess I’ll be the same when I reach there age.
If he produced music now, how many young people would be listening to it?

    • SMH January 31, 2018

Judging by the current state of record sales, doesn’t look like young people are listening to the current garbage out now either.

PS, the correct word is “their” not “there”. Your parent would know the correct usage & spelling of that word in a sentence.

      • Yes January 31, 2018

That’s because music is freely available now. And and opps, gramme Queen alert.

      • Tori January 31, 2018

Sweetp music is freely available on multiple apps and sites and people still don’t listen to a lot of garbage. Some songs take an entire year after release and die a quick death in this day and age. And “free” music has killed every artist, old or new. This generation wants every thing new, ungrateful!

      Yes
Sorry but you don´t get it. When an artist is absolutely universal and quality, they conquer all age groups. Adele did it. Michael, Whitney and the likes did it. Those monumental sales these others girls are never going to achieve are due to something.

  6. Stephy January 31, 2018

Her music is perfect for her naive easily impressed fan base.

    • JOHNVIDAL January 31, 2018

It´s Rihanna´s fans case too. They really think the girl is so great and is a great vocalist lol

      • Mark111 January 31, 2018

That that hate go, Rihanna is a legend. Save your “but in 1991” BS excuse, it’s a new day and Rihanna is the new Queen Of Pop.

  7. S****** Blonde January 31, 2018

    He’s right, she’s trash.

  8. Tim Brown January 31, 2018

Who’d clapback at this legend. Work harder period.

  9. Whoops January 31, 2018

Oop. Quincy speaking nothing but the truth.

  10. Bam January 31, 2018

YASSS! I’m glad SOMEONE in the industry said it!

  11. Meteorite January 31, 2018

The amount of people in the comment section who agree with Quincy gives me hope that perhaps real music and lyrics can make a come back!

  12. truthteller January 31, 2018

It’s very telling that the veterans in the industry like Aretha and Quincy have no time for Taylor

  13. Liam January 31, 2018

He didn’t lie tho her songwriting skills are elementary at best #noshade and I think her last album shows it a lot

  14. JOHNVIDAL January 31, 2018

LOL The absolute truth. How the hell has this girl been praised and rewarded by the grammys like crazy for songs like Shake it off and the likes? That´s your average pop song any flop girl releases from time to time. She would be ok if her success weren´t this big. But how the hell can someone who barely qualifies as cute (and that can´t sing) become this big? Her songs are not specially good period and aren´t the type that pass the test of time. This man is absolutely right. Oh and btw, biggest what? How about ADELE?

  15. DanYiel Iman January 31, 2018

    ?didn’t hear a #LIE

  16. Mark111 January 31, 2018

Her lyrics are very Hannah Montana in real life, I don’t care how much she sells, she’s not the biggest artist, she’s just able to sell albums. People are just as if not more into the music they streaming right now. The days of the biggest artist being the best selling is meaningless today.
