‘Super Bass’: Nicki Minaj Single Sells 10 Million Copies Worldwide

Published: Tuesday 9th Jan 2018 by David

Etched into the history books as one of the biggest hits of the last decade?

Super Bass’, the Hip-Pop jam written and released  by the superstar rapper Nicki Minaj.

Good news awaits below…

‘Bass’ impacted retailers on April 5th 2011 and this week, three months shy of its seventh birthday, has now sold over 10 million units worldwide…with pure sales.

How? Propelled by the positive response received from its parent album ‘Pink Friday’, the ‘Super’ song sped into action following the release of the set’s singles ‘Your Love’, ‘Right Thru Me’ and ‘Did It On ‘Em.’

Opening at #98 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song was elevated to #48 by Minaj’s fan base one week later and then pushed it further to its peak position of #3.

Then in the December of 2013, the single received an 8x platinum awards plaque from the Recording Industry Association of America as its popularity spilled into the Atlantic and made waves in Europe, Africa and Asia.

This week, the anticipation for the rapper’s fourth studio album saw interest for the jam spike globally pushing it over the 10 million units barrier globally with pure sales and well over the 15 million mark once its streaming figures are factored in.

Minaj has sold over 60 million records worldwide as a featured act and north of 25 million as a leading lady thanks to a fan base who are accustomed to purchasing her music.

So, with this in mind, we ask…

Will the rise of streaming pull Nicki fans away from iTunes and towards Spotify?

As we wait and wait for her to get up off that pot she said Lil Kim was sh!tting on while not releasing new music for ever.

She been taking forever for a new album. Like was Safaree really her creative direction 100%?

Come on Nick don’t let Cardi steal all your shine.

I had to come up here cause it’s getting crowded and hot down there, plus somebody passed gas ⛽️ lol…we all know the Barbz are loyal! Look at ya’ll now! lol, what I’m saying is casual listeners are needed to do these types of numbers! When the Barbz buy it exclusively it ends up being Roman Reloaded Re-Up numbers and K-Mart garments! lol ?

you sure you want that fart you claiming you smell.

Fake asssss, but she got a GREAT doctor tho lol ?? ??

  4. Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

Taylor’s power made this happen, not the Barbz lol…Super Bass was a deep deluxe album cut before Tay Tay made it poppin…but of course the Barbz will dispute this FACT…well, come on because I have receipts APLENTY, including Nicki’s mouth herself! ??Congrats tho, 10 million is hard to get…not too many people have those! ?

    • Caleb January 9, 2018

You have no receipts. The Pink Friday album was selling like hot cakes and each single released was becoming bigger than the one before it. Super Bass took off once its video premiered in early May 2011. Sure Taylor promoted it but it would’ve been a success without her. You give T. Swift way too much credit.

    • ??? January 9, 2018

lmao just another bug hater mad that nicki is winning and all they have going in their pathetic ebt existence is this blog lmfaoooooo

    • Electrikblue January 10, 2018

Super Bass was definitely popular before Taylor her fans jumped on the bandwagon that’s true but it’s a catchy song so…

  5. Ashanti January 9, 2018

Nicki must be paying this low budget sites bills. In the contract it must say “write one story a day about NIcki”. Because this is not news. This is once again her team trying to keep her DEAD career… alive. Cardi B wins again

    • I hate b. And w bitchexzz January 9, 2018

Yes yes yes……she wins corny b just can not sell 1 million records like love minaj……yaaay. Cardi corny b…,,

lmao has corni gone platinum yet? or even gold? lmfaao sit until she does bug.

    • Fran Cisco January 9, 2018

Dead career? But she’s winning. U can’t be dead if you’re featured on multiple songs throughout 2017 and also having people on the edge of their seats for her album. Stop being a hater and give props and take a damn nap

      • I hb. And w b January 10, 2018

NOT WINNING IF BTCH CARDI NOT PLATINUM LIKE MINAJ……

      • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

        Savage lol ?

      • Mr.StLaurent January 10, 2018

        ???? i’m dead ????

  6. Meme January 9, 2018

Super base was the track that crossed nicki over. I wonder if Cardi B will have a super base. Although she’s having great mainstream success I still don’t see her having a nicki size career. It will be interesting to see how this year and the year to follow plays out.

    • The Wig Snatcher January 9, 2018

Cardi will jump on pop tracks but she doesn’t sound crossover enough to carry a bubblegum pop record like Onika.

      • Yolanda January 9, 2018

Thanks Goodness. Nicki, Drake, and Wayne (Young Money) moved our music to the culture vultures. They produced bubble-gum-sing-along rap tracks and that’s why the culture has been sold out. Even Salt & Pepper song Let’s Talk About Sxe was grounded in culture. It might have went mainstream but they kept the clothing and look in the culture. Nicki sold the culture out. (Starships were meant to fly.)

      • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

Say what? Finesse is SLAYING on every radio format you can think of right now with Cardi’s real voice intact! And without a radio deal! Facts! The stations can’t add it fast enough! I’m glad Cardi didn’t make up a corny alter ego voice! Now Cardi won’t have to sound as corny when she does her own pop record! Cause we all know Starships is c? ? ? ny! lol ?

    • Caleb January 9, 2018

Huh? Bodak Yellow was already more mainstream and a bigger hit than Superbass in the states at least. #1 for 3 weeks and top 10 for who knows how long on the billboard hot 100. It doesn’t get anymore mainstream than that.

      • Meme January 9, 2018

Having massive success doesn’t equal cross over automatically. Bodak just had huge support from the urban community. The masses outside of the urban community are still clueless as to who Cardi B is. Trust me, I’ve asked my white co workers, they were clueless. But all of them Nicki, and they even know a few of her songs.

      • Yolanda January 9, 2018

Thank you. And Kodak Black sounds hip hop. Now the mayos are calling Louboutins by it’s street name, Red Bottoms.

      • Yolanda January 9, 2018

Oops, I meant Bodak Yellow, not Kodak Black. But all the same since Kodak Black is getting publishing money.

    • ??? January 9, 2018

lol corni will never be as big as nicki. nicki has PURE SALES, corni has STREAMING. the end lmfaoo.

  7. The Wig Snatcher January 9, 2018

Slow news day. Nicki Minaj wrote this blog post. Next caller!!!

    • ??? January 9, 2018

      lol still mad huh? lmfao

  8. Yolanda January 9, 2018

Taylor Swift saying that she listened to Super Bass moved it to the #3 position. Super Bass was on the deluxe version and it would’ve performed so-so (like Check It Out) if it wasn’t for the then HOT and HEAVY Taylor Swift. But then Nicki Minaj in her true fashion went on to diss Taylor Swift because Taylor wasn’t Swift enough.

    • Jose January 9, 2018

So it’s sold 10 million because of Taylor? You sound foolish. Taylor helped but 10 million sold because of her and her alone? Please. This is Nicki’s achievement.

      • Yolanda January 9, 2018

Even Nicki admitted that after Taylor promoted Super Bass, many of Taylor’s fans started following her. When Taylor invited Nicki to her concert to perform Super Bass, Nicki said that she owed its popularity to Taylor. Once Taylor’s mayo fans started listening, it blew up. Black people wasn’t checking for that mayo sound until it went mainstream. Black people got hooked more on the video and started mimicking the choreo. Black people aint into (boom badoom boom boom badoom bass). Blacks also started liking it because we knew she was referencing Slick Rick (the guy with the thing on his eye). Even though Nicki never gave Slick Rick credit for that line.

      • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

Taylor’s FANS bought Super Bass too! The proof is in the damn grocery receipts lol ?

      • Fran Cisco January 9, 2018

It still dont negate the fact that it is still selling years later, and went DIAMOND, and sold 10 million copies WORLDWIDE. PURE SALES no streaming. Drop some dollars to support your fave. Liking a instagram post, and streaming their songs isn’t support, INVESTING says alot.

    • Caleb January 9, 2018

I don’t think she contributed to the song’s popularity that much. The Pink Friday album had already climbed to #1 by the time Swift performed it in a video and each single was getting bigger than the one before it. The previous single “Moment For Life” had climbed to #13 on the hot 100 and spent multiple weeks at #1 on the hip-hop/r&b chart. Then the Super Bass video premiered in May and that’s when the song really took off.

      • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

Give it UP Caleb! I love you, but damn come TF on! lol, I got more receipts than a checkout line! You want another one or what? Whitney Houston loved receipts, why can’t you? ?

      • Yolanda January 9, 2018

Pink Friday album did not contain Super Bass. Super Bass was on the deluxe album. Yes, Pink Friday was a good cohesive album. I have many favorites from that album but Super Bass was not on it. The popularity of Super Bass made the mayos listen to Pink Friday. The mayos wasn’t into Did It On Em, Your Love, and Roman’s Revenge (which did not chart high at all). The mayos didn’t even get into Check It Out. It was Super Bass that bought the mayos to the party.

    • ??? January 9, 2018

lmao mad cuz corni will NEVER see 10 million of anything with her singles free falling down itunes lmfao

      • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

    BORING!!!!! NEXT

  10. Cough Cough January 9, 2018

Nobody listens to this song anymore. Like every Nicki song they’re left in the years that they’re released in, never to be rehashed again… next

    • Electrikblue January 10, 2018

Not true I hear Nicki all the time and i live in LA

  11. Yas January 9, 2018

    .F***. Spotify

  12. Abel Minaj January 9, 2018

In typical fashion y’all will swarm in here and make up a million reasons why this song was a massive success and not one of them being that it was a good song and video that took off. Nicki did that, end of story.

    • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

Nicki did what? Duh, it’s her song but you don’t get to 10 million on personal fans alone! Just be glad a Nicki post is LIT up in 2018, cause it could be dry as the Sahara chile ?

      • Abel Minaj January 9, 2018

Who cares who bought the song. No single artist’s fanbase alone will push a song to 10 million sold, that’s just common sense. We all know good and damn well Fancy wasn’t pushed to number 1 or 7x Platinum from just her fans. Yes Taylor helped it gain some stream in the beginning but her saying she liked it wouldn’t keep it going to 10 million. Taylor isn’t Clear Channel….

      • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

I agree witcha darling lol..and Fancy is 9 million, but that’s neither here nor there lol *Sashays away* ?

    • Yolanda January 9, 2018

If it was a unanimously good song, the label would not have pushed it to the deluxe version. They would have put it on the main album. The deluxe songs are considered throw-aways-with-possibilities. Evidently, no one at the label was certain about Super Bass.

      • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

Thank you Yolanda, and the church said AMENZ lol

      • Abel Minaj January 9, 2018

The album was Platinum long before Super Bass was released so what does it matter if it was on the deluxe version??? The song sold 10 million copies, why is that so hard for y’all to accept?

  13. Yas January 9, 2018

    Again F.uck Spotify

  14. Bey Sting January 9, 2018

If Taylor is the only reason it sold 10 million how do you haters explain the fact that the average Taylor single doesn’t sell 10 million worldwide and the fact that Starships sold 7 million world wide within a year. Taylor helped it chart but it’s long term sales are all Nicki. Let’s not be delusional.

    • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

Once again, no one is disputing Nicki’s own damn song and video! I understand the appeal of ya girl, especially back in the day! But no one gets to 10 million by their damn self or just with their own fans! Even The Notorious A.D.E.L.E. wouldn’t deny that casual listeners are buying her records! Be grateful! lol

  15. Gee January 9, 2018

Super bass was written by Nicki and Ester Dean who sings background vocals on the song as well. It was also the most successful song from the album and only proved one thing people were more here for pop Nicki same thing with Anaconda. Nicki the rapper is successful but the people pay more attention to hip pop Nicki.

  16. GurlWepa1989 January 9, 2018

Congratulations Nicki!! This is a milestone achievement. I can’t wait for NM4. Haters are going to go hate whether she drops features or not. A lot of remixes and songs she hopped on in 2017 it’s part of building buzz and anticipation. The artist of her caliber, the expectation is high especially when you have many people against you and wanting you to lose. Come thru Nicki…2018 is yours and we’re here for it.

    • Yolanda January 9, 2018

NM4? Didn’t Meek name his album DC4? Does Nicki have any originality?

      • Abel Minaj January 9, 2018

??? NM4 is what the stan world is calling her upcoming album since she hasn’t given the title of it yet you moron. They do this for EVERYONE. R8 was for Anti, B6 was Lemonade, TS6 was Reputation, KP4 Witness, LG5 Joanne, etc. I really hope you’re just Trolling cuz if not ???

      • GurlWepa1989 January 9, 2018

it’s untitle so the fans and the media are calling it that just like what Abel Minaj stated. So relax Yolanda…Meek can watch Nicki blossom from his blocked jail cell.

    • Cough Cough January 9, 2018

NM4= PINK Friday 4= the same s*** she’s put out on all her forgettable non classic albums

      • GurlWepa1989 January 9, 2018

unforgettable that’s been collecting plaques and gaining stream…call what u call it. It’s a success more than your fav.

  17. Yeah! It’s deep January 9, 2018

READ MY LIPS: There were nothing else out to compare this ding-bat with . No other female rappers to compete with at 2011. I can’t remember one verse to her lyrics but I can remember lil Kim’s lyrics.

    • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

      And that’s the ☕️ lol

    • GurlWepa1989 January 9, 2018

The brain can’t be that dull, since you have time to troll so google the stats!! There were always other rappers out every year even your favorite so don’t be salty Nicki outshined them. Kim the Jigsaw need to fallback and take care whatever face she has left of hers.

      • Fancy BISH January 9, 2018

Kim the Jigsaw? Sheesh lol ?

      • Yolanda January 9, 2018

Which rapper was out with a label and big money backing or with a hot popular crew like Young Money? Kim is an OG from Brooklyn. And when Nicki came for her, Kim was just tough enough to respond, even if it was on her iPhone. Kim did not release a legitimate song with a legitimate label with money backing. Kim released mixtape songs for her fans. That Is all. The only rapper that had a legitimate backing was Iggy and you see how she outshined Nicki. Besides, why is Nicki comparing herself to Kim? Is Drake comparing himself to Snoop, who pushes out albums that do not sell well? It goes to show you how big Kim is that Nicki has to go back in time to compare her numbers. Kim, Missy, Kim et al are not in the prime of their career so why is Nicki comparing herself to them? I wonder if Drake is going to compare his numbers to Mase.

      • Abel Minaj January 9, 2018

@Yolanda you’re a complete and utter dumbass, it’s not Nicki’s fault people stopped caring about female rappers after 05 and didn’t start again until she came in the scene. Kreayshawn had Gucci Gucci, Azealia had 212 released an EP and mixtape then signed to a major label, Iggy linked up with T.I. and also dropped a mixtape and EP all within a year of Super Bass. She complete brought females back to rap and when there aren’t others around who will you get compared to???? Answer: Chicks from a long time ago. Also Drake has compared himself to Jay Kanye and Wayne so wtf are you talking about??

  18. Yolanda January 9, 2018

Jay, Kanye, and Wayne are still active artists with big money backing. Mase, LL Cool J, and Snoop, not so much. If Drake compared his sales to Mase, LL Cool J, and Snoop then he might as well compare his sales to Big Daddy Kane. Jay, Kanye, and Wayne are legitimate competitors because they are still active and believe it or not, still in the prime of their careers. Kim, Missy, Eve, Rah Digga, Salt and Pepper, Remy Ma are not in the prime of their careers. Anything they put out would be deemed a comeback.

  19. Yonce January 9, 2018

    Congrats Nic!

  20. Mary January 9, 2018

Who cares about nikki. She was wrong for saying that s*** about Aaliyah. I don’t like her. How can she speak, and disrespect someone that is dead. Nikki would never ever be able to touch Aaliyah. She talk about alot of female rappers, that her punk ass listened to when she wasn’t s***. I want to see her call out Queen L.

  21. DanYiel Iman January 9, 2018

    It’s a pop track why not? ??‍♂️

    • Minaj Mania January 10, 2018

So every pop song sells 10 million?

  22. January 9, 2018

    Congratz Nicki Minaj.

  23. EMILIO March 2, 2018

Actually Nicki has sold more as a leading artist, only in the RIAA has certifications for 37 million singles sold and that only in the United States. Approximately Nicki has more than 60 million singles sold as a leading artist.

If SB is 8x for the RIAA and has sold 15 worldwide, there are 7 million more. Starships is 6x for the RIAA and has sold 13 million worldwide.
At 37 million in the US by the RIAA, we added 14 million of Starships and SB, are 51 million singles sold plus all the other singles, I would say that it has sold more than 60 million as the main artist
