Sony Music Earns $1 Billion From Streaming In 2017

In 2018, fans of Fifth Harmony‘s Normani Kordei can expect her to kick start a solo career that may be housed by her current label Sony Music Entertainment.

Why the label has good reason to keep the promising star on board? The part she, her band and their Brit-Pop sisters from Little Mix have played in propelling its profits to sweet heights.

Awesome news below….

Each month over 12 million Spotify subscribers support Harmony’s sounds by spinning their songs on the platform.

When added to numbers earned by their Sony siblings from across the streaming board, this figure helped the label earn $1.65 billion in 2017.

Hits Daily Double shares…

Top sellers included P!nk’Beautiful TraumaChris Brown’s Heartbreak on a Full Moonand Camila Cabello’s Camila. The company touted new records from Justin TimberlakeLANCO and Jack White as among the “noteworthy projects” of the current quarter.

Quite interestingly, despite the decline in its popularity, sales of physical CDs accounted for $386 million of the company’s earnings last year.

This year, the company can be expected to fare just as well thanks to campaigns launched by Camila Cabello and forthcoming efforts by Beyonce and- if industry murmurs are to be believed- J. Cole.

Imagine how much money Rihanna is making alone since she owns her music masters. Not only do services have to purchase the rights every so often, they also have to pay her for the billions of streaming. ?

Such a reach to include Normani’s name in this and use her photo.

Why are Fifth Harmony and Little Mix mentioned in that post when they aren’t even mentioned in the article? Surely a picture of Camila or Pink would be more appropriate.

This is sad that the artists are not seeing most of this money. Rihanna is one smart business woman. By owing the masters to all her songs, she gets most of the stream money from her songs. Cannot say that for most artist.

These record labels and streaming services are STILL getting billions off of flop sales.. They don’t even put 1/3 of this money into the artist. Cheap directors/videos (with no concept), cheap producers, cheap writers, cheap shows. The artist’s get sucked dry unless they are Adele, Taylor, Beyonce, Drake, or Rihanna (Just to name a few). 1 Million Streams on Spotify = $4,370. 1 Million Streams on Apple Music = $7,350 1 Million Streams on Tidal = $12,500. It doesn’t make sense. Yall are going to hate me but, Tidal is the most beneficial for the artist. Though they have less subscribers the artist is making more money streaming wise. They Just don’t have enough subscribers to make an impact on the charts (popularity wise)
