Watch: Monica Amazes With ‘Angel Of Mine’ On ‘Kimmel’

Published: Sunday 18th Feb 2018 by Sam

Monica boasts a catalogue of classics and she dusted one off this week in honor of Valentine’s.

Backed by a full band, the R&B veteran belted out one of her biggest hits ‘Angel Of Mine’ on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

How did she do? Watch below to find out…

20 years after debuting, Monica remains such a qualitative talent. The song is still a gem and the vocal delivered here made it shine the more.

Having recently wrapped her stint on ‘The Great Xscape Tour,’ we’re more than ready for Mo’s next musical moment. It’s been three years since her last album ‘Code Red,’ so the time certainly feels right.

Clearly there was a lot of time and money waisted on this performance, if she wasn’t going to do anything but stand there. Is she trying to build her brand before releasing an album or going on tour? She could’ve stood there with a backing track, some rose petals on the stage floor, maybe some candles and good lighting tricks. There was no need for the band and their instruments or the BG singers since you still played the vocal track, the LED Screenor the confetti bomb, which was awkward. Her vocals were beautiful. I was wondering why she didn’t take her range up by the second chorus building to the bridge but i could hear she was straining just singing this. I give it a C+!

backing track? Candles? Rose petals on the floor? absolutely basic! And not for someone of her stature. She knows what she’s doing.

I love Monica, but over the years it seems as if she’s has developed some kind of lisp when she sings or maybe she had her teeth done a certain way I don’t know but she’s still awesome.

It wasn’t amazing by a long shot. Her vocals have definitely deteriorated from the 90’s. Her vocals used to be so rich and buttery. I don’t know what happened. It’s like her tone has become annoying or something. I can’t describe it. Maybe she needs vocal lessons….

not only will Monica consistently slay with her live vocals but her live arrangements are always so organic! kudos to her band for always being on point. this was super cute, it made my day and that’s why I’m such a big fan.
