Stream: Toni Braxton’s New Album ‘Sex & Cigarettes’

Published: Friday 23rd Mar 2018 by Rashad

It’s finally here!

After the last few months brought much teasing, Grammy-winning R&B diva Toni Braxton has unleashed her long-awaited new album ‘Sex & Cigarettes.’

Her first solo studio effort since 2010’s ‘Pulse,’ Braxton’s newest set – preceded by critically acclaimed singles ‘Long As I Live’ & ‘Deadwood’ – may only be 8 songs long but certainly packs quite the punch.  Boasting ‘Bubbly’ beauty Colbie Caillat as its only feature, ‘Sex’ does feature songwriting and production credits from the likes of Kwame Ogoo, Royce Doherty, Paul Boutin, and, of course, Braxton herself.

Curious to hear what the songstress has cooked up for her 8th go ’round?  It awaits inside:

It’s good! Toni always delivers solid ballads. But it feels like this is missing about 5 up tempo songs. I need a ‘take this ring’ or a ‘please’ type record. She could have even Put that ‘heart away’ Song on there. Anybody know what the deal is with having an 8 song album? Does that increase the chances of the album moving more units because it’s shorter in length?

I am looking forward to this new era and tour. She announced today that she is touring starting in May with all of the Braxtons:

    1. Traci is opening.
    2. Tamar is up second.
    3. Toni is the headliner with Trina and Towanda doing background.

I’m sure the official video for Long As I live will be out shortly but in case anyone wants to see it early here is the low low quality version:

Yes guys, I’ll be opening up a booth in conjunction with Keyshia cole, it’s a collaborative effort we have deemed “Coloring Books and Fish Plates”. You can catch us in the parking lots of all Toni’s shows and use the code “bonQuiQui” for a free set of crayons and an order of hush puppies with a $20 or more purchase. #BlackAsFuckGurlMagic

Album is everything. No disappointments. These songs hit home just like her classics. Her song choices and themes are very relateable. TOH is exactly what I needed to hear this morning. Been up all night crying over this guy, I just got my senses back.

“MY HEART” IS MY FAV … SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL.
VERY GOOD ALBUM .. STILL VERY SHORT. I GIVE IT 7/10
I THINK SOME OF THE SONGS SOUNDS KINDA SIMILAR
“HEART AWAY” WOULD’VE GIVE IT SOME VERSATILITY
ANYWAY, I THINK SHE MADE THAT ALBUM SHORT KNOWING AT THIS POINT OF HER CAREER PPL WOULD LIKE TO HEAR HER OLDER SONGS IN TOUR SO SHE WILL BE ABLE TO PROMOTE THAT ALBUM EASILY WHILE ALSO SINGING MUCH OF THE OLDER MATERIAL..

  18. Teflon Boy March 23, 2018

This album is really good, the material is gorgeous. Even though it’s only 8 tracks there is no filler.., However, with any luck there will a deluxe addition with additional songs.

  19. Teflon Boy March 23, 2018

Toni really delivered with this album, the material plus her vocal delivery throughout is gorgeous. I was nervous about the fact there’s only 8 tracks but there’s no filler.., the real treat though is it feels fresh without being trendy or trying hard to remain current. Toni is fine wine, S** and Cigarettes proves she doesn’t need gimmicks, just well crafted songs and her signature vocal delivery.
