Tinashe: “I Make Music For The Love & For My Fans – Not For Accolades Or Sales”

Published: Wednesday 28th Mar 2018 by Sam

Tinashe‘s new album may be called ‘Joyride,’ but the journey to its release has been more of a bumpy ride.

Indeed, the set was first announced almost three years ago and even spurned a like-titled tour. And yet it was plagued by one push-back after the other when its various “lead” singles struggled to ignite the charts.

And while one would assume that the eventual establishment of a release date would have the 24-year-old hungry to deliver commercially, she’s saying that’s not her priority.

See what we mean below…

When a Twitter user branded the project a “flop,” Tinashe replied by saying that she doesn’t care and stressing that she makes music for the love of it and her fans:

**************

Understandable response, but was it entirely upfront?

The reality is that after all this hoopla, it’s almost a necessity for the campaign to have at least one successful face (i.e. a hit single, stable sales, or something of that ilk) to make it a win. Just saying.

Your thoughts?

She basically admitted the floppage of it all. It wasn’t like RCA was supporting her anyway. Poor girl.

    • Meme March 28, 2018

Same ish I am talking about her. Are you kidding me? RCA promotes this girls like crazy. She’s been on major tv shows performing, had big features and 1 million singles and videos.

Stop blaming he label when you didn’t support her. It’s not the label or the artist. It’s yall who love to critique but not support.

      • Buzz Off! March 28, 2018

✊?… PREEEEACHEEE!! The Label has nothing to do with her sales it’s us than done support her… Idc But that’s the Truth..

Hi, My name is S****** Blonde and I am single looking to mingle. I am 6’3, 140 lbs, slim waist, with a wide boooty hole. I am mostly a bottom but I can butch up and be verse for the right gentleman. I prefer well endowed men but I will take whatever I can get. I am pre-t***** which means I still have a d*** (I don’t use bit often though so it stays limp). I like blogging, sewing, cooking (I make a mean raccoon stew and rodent kabobs), traveling, swimming, and buying women’s clothes. I have tried all the gay dating apps like grinder and jacked but I figure I would give this site a try. My ideal soul mate would be a man who is on prep (cause you know I have the monster), have a job (cause I ain’t got one), and a car or bus pass. Any age any race just don’t be a strict bottom. I look forward to meeting you. I can suck d*** better than supa head.

  2. Meme March 28, 2018

    Yes boo! Let them know.

A commenter made a very valid point in Tinashes last post. No matter how good the music is, or how good the label handle her (which both has been great) people still not going to support.

I’m so sick of seeing people come on here making comments dragging down Tinashe because it’s not like they gonna support her either way. And people blaming RCA, that’s ridiculous. They given her so much high profile features, and endless budgets with top producers and video directors.

At the end of the day we can complain about needing new artist, and black females not selling when y’all don’t support our own. We have all these dope new black females artist and none of them selling. None, not even Sza.

  3. pat March 28, 2018

sounds like she’s made peace with super stardom never happening for her

  4. Jasmine March 28, 2018

You guys we really need to pray for our good sis Trashmine aka Shaniqua aka Troll Alert aka Fake S****** Blonde aka fake Jasmine aka Cinnamonquandriantasia… she has been clinically diagnosed with schizophrenia and is creating MULTIPLE accounts on TGJ to have conversations with herself and even refers to her dïldô as her “man/boyfriend” even tho it’s a lifeless piece of rubber. We need the TGJ prayer warriors on FLEEK to reach out, because she’s on the cusp of insanity and is going down down down

    • Jasmine March 28, 2018

You are insane. Always writing comments about me. You are obsessed with me. My name is Jasmine. Stop calling me names S****** F A G G O T Blonde. Why don’t you stop impersonating me? I would never stoop so low as to impersonate you. I already told you that but you are too slow to comprehend. Stop coming for me f a G

      • Jasmine March 28, 2018

STOP IMPERSONATING ME TROLLmine!! You are nasty!

  5. Tori March 28, 2018

…she really doesn’t have a choice in this market…or any American market. Tinashe doesn’t seem like that big artist, she seems more underground driven. We already have Janet and Ciara so that spot she could feels is already taken. Shes just not that girl to be big, but her heart is in the right spot. Once you lose your love for the music, you end up with “Jackie” or “Discipline”…”Damita Jo” for that matter.

    • SMH March 28, 2018

Wrong. And stop using Janet to make ridiculous claims. “Discipline” & “Damita Jo” suffered from an industry wide blacklist, nothing else. ‘Love for the music’ was never a factor because she never lost that. Tinashe & Ciara’s struggles with the industry are a totally different topic that has nothing to do with the struggles Janet faced.

      • Tori March 28, 2018

Girl shut the f*** up and be glad I didn’t post the shade I was supposed to.

      • Meme March 28, 2018

I agree here. 3 Different struggles all together.

Screaming at Tori, girl what was the shade you wanted to throw. Lolol I wanna know

  6. Jay March 28, 2018

You right, you make sales for RCA! And if you don’t, it’s going to be a wrap! If you make music for your “FANS” you would be independent! But don’t worry sweetie, after this album.. You will be! Lol goodbye Tennis Shoe

    • Tori March 28, 2018

Keep reading as we, the class, read along.

  7. Hodderz March 28, 2018

Wasn’t she whining about not being a star a couple years ago? Blamed it on Rihanna, Beyonce and the entire black community! Now all of a sudden, you don’t care about the fame etc blah blah?
Had she shut her mouth and just kept pushing, I’m sure she could’ve had a radio hit at this point. Instead with those comments she alienated and turned off potential fans.
Stop the lying you do care, you just realized it wasn’t in your cards to be the huge star you demaned everyone make you.
Let’s not act like she doesn’t make good music, she does. I have her sprinkled throughout many of my playlist. The American market just isn’t interested.

Tinashe should’ve pulled a Donna Summer. Went to a European county, built a brand and then tried out the American market. It helped Donna become seasoned and made the interest higher once people heard love to love you.

  8. DanYiel Iman March 28, 2018

    Well that’s nice to know!!

  9. RealNegro March 28, 2018

Something is lacking in her music. It doesn’t have that “It” factor. She needs a hit bad because she is the total package. Bad releases will hinder her. Come on clan…..stop letting her flop. She could be so much better and well received.

  10. Jasmine March 28, 2018

    She’s not happening.

??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️Anyway You guys we really need to pray for our good sis Trashmine aka Shaniqua aka Troll Alert aka Fake S****** Blonde aka fake Jasmine aka Cinnamonquandriantasia… she has been clinically diagnosed with schizophrenia and is creating MULTIPLE accounts on TGJ to have conversations with herself and even refers to her dïldô as her “man/boyfriend” even tho it’s a lifeless piece of rubber. • Jasmine March 28, 2018

B!!tch you are the insane one. You troll me, JohnVidal, yourself, and numerous other people with ur fake accounts.

  11. Liam March 28, 2018

She makes good music and I will be supporting….She is talented and has a dope pen game I can see her writing and producing for other people if the fore front of music doesn’t go as she like

  12. Faf March 28, 2018

She’s blessed it’s coming out anyway i thought it would be shelved

The problem is u have to keep momentum it’s not 2007 where u can keep pushing back and ppl keep anticipating its put up or shut up

Everyone is a flop today except beyonce if we’re speaking sales bc videos translate to streams and u have twitter fans getting an artist a verification by having a streaming party
Camila Cabello flopped and still certified by RIAA

  13. Yc18 March 28, 2018

Then put ya s*** on sound cloud for free. I hate when artist say this, bc they know they album bout to flop

  14. Julian March 29, 2018

Look, it’s obviously not gonna be a smash hit because the general public never really connected with her FOR SOME REASON THAT I WILL NEVER GRASP.
But “Nightride” did okay for a mixtape and “No Drama” and “Faded Love” got some buzz, so I’m hoping she’ll at least chart decently (top 40) and then go from there. She deserves at least some recognition! I’ve been waiting for this album forever and I’m very proud of my girl for sticking it out where others would’ve given up long ago. GO TINASHE, I believe in you!!!
