Cardi B’s ‘Invasion Of Privacy’ Certified Gold Seconds After Release – And Here’s Why

Published: Friday 6th Apr 2018 by Sam

Cardi B is glowing Gold today following the hotly anticipated release of her debut album ‘Invasion Of Privacy.’

And that’s not hyperbole. It’s fact.

For, the Bronx-bred rapper has become the first ever female artist to be certified Gold by the RIAA on day of album release.

Find out how below…

Some may understandably be scratching their heads. After all, the project “just” came out and wasn’t subject to some of the trickery other acts have used (see: sponsor buying copies and redistributing for free).

So, why are plaques being handed out already?

Well, it all boils down to the mega-success of ‘Bodak Yellow’ and a specific streaming rule.

See, the RIAA now counts 10 SPS units as equating to 1 album “sale.”

Therefore, with ‘Yellow’ sitting at 5x Platinum, said figure translates to 500,000 “sold” units – which is the benchmark for Gold certification.

Interestingly, Cardi’s first-week sales and charting will not factor in the 500k as Billboard doesn’t mirror RIAA’s tally.

Nonetheless, given the mega momentum and overwhelmingly positive response to the album, it’s safe to say Cardi has #1 on lock with big sales to boot.

Mess. The only way she’s gonna get “certified”is to cheat. She’s clearly never gonna sell pure units like Nicki does.

    • Smh April 6, 2018

And what pure Nicki sales do you speak of as Roman reloaded stalled at 8-900 thousand and the pink print is around 600k in pure sales only million seller she got is her debut album she been on a album sales decline every album…NEXT!

      • Faf April 6, 2018

Wrong pink Friday has sold over 2 mil the only albums streams helped were rr and tpp

      • Faf April 6, 2018

And even still her singles go plat in sales not just streams see : super bass

      • SMH April 6, 2018

@Smh Um, like I said, Nicki did those numbers in PURE SALES to answer your question. Now sit and learn to read while you wait for cardi to sell even a fraction of Nicki’s numbers in PURE SALES, not pure streams.

  4. Brent Christopher April 6, 2018

This Cardi B album is stronger than any other female hip-hop release since 2008/2009.

    Undeniably!

    • stefanology April 6, 2018

wrong, even if I am not a big fan of her, Azealia Banks’ Broke With Expansive Taste is one of the most boundaries-pushing, solid, amazing female rap album of the last decade. her bars, her flow, the beats, her Spanish rap, her voice.. everything is taken to a level that no other did.

      • Brent Christopher April 6, 2018

        do you even hear yourself?
        BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

        my original statement stands.

    • SMH April 6, 2018

You CLEARLY have absolutely no clue what female hip hop is if you think this is the best female hip hop release in the last 10 years.

      • Erica April 6, 2018

Well what’s the best female hip hop album in the last 10 years?

    • BYISI April 6, 2018

I wish fems would stay out of hip-hop! They know nothing about it. In what way is this album better than any female hiphop album in the last decade? It’s not! You can’t even tell us from a technical point of view why it’s better. I swear some of you are the reason trash passes for music now.The whole album minus 3 songs is trash!

  5. Alex April 6, 2018

People and their fake certifications. Glad my fave earns her plaques the LEGIT way. ??‍♂️

  6. Gee April 6, 2018

I noticed that as long as streaming benefits your favorite artists it’s not considered cheating but once the rules benefit an artist or artists you do not like it’s something different. Give me a break we can’t allow the rules to benefit one if they can’t benefit all. Congratulations Cardi, may your success continue.

exactly the hypocrites won’t even hide their blatant bias and hypocrisy, so disgusting.

    • SMH April 6, 2018

Um, no. Streaming is the cheating man’s “sales” no matter who’s doing the cheating.

  7. XYZ April 6, 2018

The business is such a mess. Actually, who wants to have a plaque for his album that is based on one song? Except of Chris Brown, who still masturbates to his „numbers“ even though they are fake as hell.

  8. Danzou is back! April 6, 2018

    And it’s Hip Hop.

  9. Bianca April 6, 2018

I for one like streaming cuz it kills hype. U can sell a million but how do u know that million listen to the music whereas streaming shows u who is actually being listened to. It’s ppl selling and got nice streaming numbers with songs on billboard top 10 then u have others that’s only selling no top 10’s no streaming numbers! What does that say? Anyway the cd is legit and she came thru.

  10. Jasmine NOT Trashmine or TROLLmine??‍♀️??‍♀️ April 6, 2018

Certifications are a joke, I feel so bad for this generation and their horrid music

  11. Tori April 6, 2018

But wasn’t it Nicki who road SO DAMN HARD for streaming certs tho…

  12. Caleb April 6, 2018

I hate what the RIAA has become. You have single certifications counting towards album certifications. It’s just stupid.

  13. DanYiel Iman April 6, 2018

I’ll purchase singles but she’s not my kinda artist…

  14. Jay April 7, 2018
