‘September’: Taylor Swift Braves Continued Backlash After Releasing Earth, Wind, & Fire Cover

Published: Friday 13th Apr 2018 by Rashad

In case the memo was missed, there are just some songs that are sacred to Black people.  Attendance at almost any Black cookout, family reunion, wedding, or other major family gathering would reveal that Earth, Wind, and Fire‘s 1978 hit, ‘September,’ is undoubtedly one of them.

Under ill advising, Grammy-winning pop darling Taylor Swift opted to give the tune a coffee house ready 2018 revamp.  The result?  Black Twitter erupted!

As if the backlash she endured from the #Beyhive wasn’t enough when she was accused of hijacking elements found in the ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ visual directly from Beyonce‘s ‘Formation’ video (click here to read more on that), the disapproval that greeted her EWF remake made the ‘Formation’ furor seem minimal.

Hear Taylor’s bland potato salad inspired version of the classic R&B number and see some hilarious Twitter responses:

This article spews racism and discrimination! TGJ should be ashamed at the “mediocrity” of this post. Shameful do better!

Yep it’s called black privilege, they can’t stop using it.

Yes the cover is tragic. However, saying white people can’t cover “black” songs is bullsh*t and kinda racist… Nobody bats an eye when black people use “white” songs. It’s music. Music is emotion and emotion has nothing to do with race.

She just stripped the soul, r&b and heck even the seasoning out of this song. Note to today’s alleged singers… STAY AWAY FROM EARTH, WIND AND FIRE SONGS.
I probably heard 0.05 second of her version and quickly exited ?‍♀️?

You are a type of person who should have no voting right on any elections. You are judging something you quitted after 5 seconds. Idiot. Period.

      • ~The Arcade~ April 15, 2018

5 secs was enough for me you DUMBA$$. You swifty fans can stay salty. Period lol

    • ELHARBESON April 14, 2018

It was not originally r&b it was recorded as a strait out disco dance song. Miss Swift recorded it as a country love song, It is a indication of how good the song was that it can sound as good in either format.

      • ELHARBESON April 14, 2018

People must not have thought it was to good when it came out as it did not go gold until 2006, and it has not sold enough to go platinum yet.

Another proof that Black people are more rascist than an avarage Trump voter. You always cry about tolerance and multiculturalism, but when it comes to a white girl singing a “black song according to black people”, you turn to be furious intolerant rascist…

I hope these stupid racist people will stand up anytime a Black person plays a Mozart or a Beethoven or sings a Celine Dion song. Stupid black racist people.

    • madbrax April 15, 2018

yup totally agree.black folks are some of the most racist. can’t take responsibility for their actions, always have to blame others

  11. King z April 14, 2018

Nowhere in this article was it implied white people cannot cover black songs. This site praises the likes of Ariana, Tori, Jojo, and Jessie j to the hi heavenss and they always always cover blk music

The likes of Taylor swift on the other hand should leave all covers alone, speak less of those that require soul

    • Parkourist239 April 19, 2018

Rude as hell. “The likes of” That’s some pretentious guff.

  12. James Turner April 15, 2018

No disco song is a classic. I don’t particularly like country music but in this case Taylor made the song better. DISCO SUCKS!
