Gospel superstar Kim Burrell came under fire at the top of 2017 for a sermon many deemed ‘hateful’ and ‘homophobic.’ The backlash not only saw many of her industry friends distance themselves, but also saw her lose many-an-endorsement including a television show, radio show, and denied entry to award shows for her reported anti-LGBT stance (click here to read on that).
None of the aforementioned dominated headlines as much as her unceremonious disinviting from the ‘Ellen’ show after fans of the program called for the cancellation of her appearance alongside Pharrell Williams in support of the soundtrack to the film ‘Hidden Figures’ (Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer). While most of last year and the earlier parts of 2018 saw her ‘hidden’ – keeping quite the low profile since the public damning – the songstress re-emerged recently to assure her faithful followers she was never in ‘hiding,’ but was instead ‘getting rich.’

She is stupid for saying that publicly. Everyone should always worry about their career and who has helped get you there. Kim has (or had) a strong gay black audience and this one incident of prejudice makes people forget about all of the things she has done to help gays. Perhaps her husband or someone close to her lied to her about being gay so her comment should have been limited to that particular situation instead of stating a hate message. I like her voice but on Sunday Best she was a B.
Isn’t standing up for what you truly believe in, in your heart of hearts more important than a career? Also, anyone who will hold against a person what he or she believes in by getting in the way of that person’s career shows just how immature, shallow, and ignorant that person is! The moment a person states that they don’t believe in same s** relationships they are labled homophobic. However, isn’t a person who hates another person based on this also exhibiting phobic behavior? How hypocritical is that? I would say quite hypocritcal!

I met Kim and her attitude was purely trash just like a lot of people in the church community for y’all to be filled with so much God a lot of y’all have hateful spirits. I only commented on how much of a fan i was of her music and she looked at me like i was a Popeyes waitress saying we have no spicy food

If Kim is a hated woman, please don’t put other people in this. Just because she claims to be a righteous woman, doesn’t mean she will be righteous all the time. All churches aren’t alike, just like all Christians aren’t alike. One thing the world need to realize, if someone is claiming to follow Jesus and their actions show something else. Stop saying, that’s how all Jesus followers are. Jesus is Love, mercy, kindness, gentleness, Godliness, And God’s Son. Everyone sins and no one is perfect, so Kim is going to fall sometime.

It is REALLY pathetic when someone can’t speak freely, especially from his or her heart and have people decide not to have anything to do with that person in any way, shape, or form because of what that person said. One of the freedoms that the United States of America was founded on was freedom of speech so if someone says something and you don’t agree then that’s a reason to cop an attitude with that person and no longer have anything to do with that person? Agree, disagree, whatever. But to shun the person based on what they say and believe is UTTERLY immature!!! The people who react in this way need to grow up!
