Indeed, despite consistently coming close with a succession of #2’s, the second spot has thus far been her peak on the coveted count.
With new album ‘Sweetener’ due next month, all eyes are on her commercial performance. Especially given her raised profile over the last year.
For Ari, however, she’s more content than bothered.

Also, with two of her three prior released albums opening at #1, it’s easy to see why she’s not losing any sleep over singles – particularly when she’s made it commonplace to rack up top 5s left and right.
Still, it does beg the question: why has Ariana not scored a #1 single yet? Let us know…

Her and Nicki doing an album together won’t get her a number 1 either.
The simple answer is she’s never released a single that has captured the wider public like some of the artists she aspires to. Janet, Madonna, Mariah and Whitney had already scored more than one iconic hit by the time they released their 4th album.

Ari has a nice voice but also very soulless when she sings live compared to other legends her emotions are never evident or feel believable to convey everyone to feel the same way.

She has had #1s on Billboard’s pop songs chart. The hot 100 is treated like the end-all of all charts when someone wants to drag certain artists, but at the end of the day it isn’t the only chart that billboard has.

I think timing plays a big part in getting #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Not every song that has managed to hit #1 is timeless, classic, groundbreaking, etc. Ariana Grande has one of the most powerful voices of this generation and she makes really popular pop songs. I don’t know of any other big voiced singers doing better other than Adele.

Well Yeah. Timing is important and it gives some bad songs number 1s while others miss the mark. But at the same time, you can’t blame it ALL on bad timing. Especially by album number 4. Because while Ariana has a great voice with popular songs, her music seriously lacks dimension and artistry, given her talent. It’s like she’s not artistically inclined at all.

This obsession with no. 1s these days. She has quite some songs everybody knows that have been very successful due to longevity. So what if she doesn’t have a no. 1? There are quite a lot of legends that did not have many no. 1s, but songs that last for decades (that haven’t been no. 1 as well). Not saying that she will become a legend, but she is doing very good.
Aaliyah didn’t a number 1 hit until 2000, 6 years into the industry.Ariana’s time will come soon.
I’m not saying all artists need a number 1 or even that everybody has to have a number 1 after a certain number of years but I don’t see the comparison. That was almost 20 years ago. Aaliyah didn’t have the help of YouTube and iTunes and every other resource artists like Ariana today have to get her there. And even though it took 6 years, Aaliyah wasn’t even on album number 4 like Ariana is. She only had 2 albums.

It will happen for her. I always thought that “Thinking Bout You” on her last album was such a beautiful and emotional song…it gave me the feels. I think so many people would have connected with it had it been a single.
