Chart Check [Hot 100]: Drake Ties Rihanna For Most Weeks at #1 in the 2010s

Published: Wednesday 25th Jul 2018 by Rashad

Until 2016, nearly ten years into his career, the only time Drake saw his name penciled atop the Hot 100 was as co-star to a Rihanna hit.  Now, fast forward to 2018, he threatens to eclipse the Bajan beauty.

As his viral hit, ‘In My Feelings,’ has nabbed another week at #1 thanks to a whopping 116.2 million streams amassed in one week (setting a new all-time record), Drizzy’s now one week shy of breaking Rih’s record for most weeks at #1 this decade.  In its second week at the tally’s perch, ‘Feelings’ (his sixth chart-topper overall), has granted the rapper his 41st career week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.  Mind you, this is ahead of the tune’s soon-to-come accompanying video…

Billboard reports:

Here is an updated look at the artists to log the most weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in the 2010s:

41 weeks, Drake
41 weeks, Rihanna
32 weeks, Bruno Mars
26 weeks, Katy Perry
24 weeks, Adele

Among all decades…Drake and Rihanna’s 2010s totals tie Usher’s 2000s output for the fourth-best single-decade sum. Mariah Carey spent 60 weeks at No. 1 in the 1990s; the Beatles logged 55 weeks at the summit in the ’60s; and Boyz II Men totaled 50 weeks on top in the ’90s.

The charts really aren’t that important anymore now that you don’t have to earn your achievements. You don’t even see artists talking about the weak achievements except new artist, break through artists and Nicki Minaj (because that’s really all she has left).

    • Meme July 25, 2018

It’s only not important to those who favs can’t chart. FACTS. Y’all like claim charts don’t matter because y’all favs singles flop.

Anyway, shout to Drake, Rihanna and Bruno repping hard for artist of color and STAY making history. Y’all make it look so easy when others can’t even get a single #1. Keep making immaculate music that is appreciated by the masses and not just the ghetto.

Bruno is i not a real artist………..the ghetto would approve the song first…. before the masses.

Now Meme…I like you, but simmer your hot summer heat ass down. I don’t have a “fav” because I don’t Stan any particular one or two artists. As I stated on here numerous times. Every artist have their strengths and weaknesses, being this far in the game and relying on streams and the BB new system that makes NO damn sense, is NOT considered a strength. Especially when artist are now moving away from charting and don’t care about #1’s but creative freedom (except Nicki). And let’s not talk about making music “for the masses” when they won’t even spend $1.29 on iTunes. Boy wonder, as you call him, makes so much pop music he can’t even successfully respond when real rappers call him out even tho he’s “the biggest rapper”! He can’t do anything without chart checking, as well as the big head ass island girl you stan . She literally can’t do anything (sing, perform, dance, catch the beat, attend rehearsal) but chart and model (stand still, be naked, sell product). And don’t cling to Bruno because when he was writing hooks and dropped “Doo-Whoops and Hooligans”, YALL WERE NO WHERE TO BE FOUND! Stream charting is not an achievement for mainstream artists who were out before 2011, you should have a solid fanbase if you’re still putting out music.

And to the Nicki fan below, CARDI BEEN OUT FOR LIKE 3 YEARS AND STILL TRYING TO GROW! NICKI BEEN OUT FOR 11 YEARS, STILL BRAGGING ABOUT STREAMING AND THE 130 BB ENTRIES A YEARS THAT NEVER MAKE IT TO #1…CARDI HAS 2. TELL YOUR FAV TO BOW OUT GRACEFULLY, QUEEN LATIFAH DID AND SHES BEEN MORE SUCCESSFUL, TAKE NOTES!

@tori here’s the thing…even if Rihanna and Drake music didn’t chart, their music in my Humble opinion is amazing and can stand alone. The fact that they are still killing the charts 10yrs deep in the game is just a added bonus. As you mention, they her leaning towards creative freedom. Rihanna for certain isn’t making “instant” hits formula music and neither is Drake. They are doing what they want. Where as other like Beyoncé and Nicki are still making “trendy” type music because they want to chart weather you deny it or not. Beyoncé doesn’t even really sing r&b anymore, she’s rapping to lyrics written by Swae Lee and Migos. Go figure.

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT BEYONCE? DID YOU EVER STOP TO THINK BEY WANTS TO MAKE “TRENDING” MUSIC JUST BECAUSE? JUST TO LISTEN TOO? JUST TO PLAY AT THE CLUB WHEN SHES OUT? JUST TO CHANGE IT UP? Shes definitely not making it to chart, her s*** has been falling off the chart since 2013 AND SHES WELL AWARE! Nicki on the other hand is clinging to the charts because that’s her only claim to being queen, she has a few bops & hits and gives a decent performance on e a year but that’s it. Drake music has been lackluster since NWTS and “0-100”. He literally went full pop and since he worked with Future that one time, thinks hes about that world star life. Drake is the disc two of “I Am…Sasha Feirce” in real life. Rihanna is definitely making “instant” hits that were made to chart. “Work”, “Needed Me”…basic Rihanna. Her last album (and single, LOTB is my s***) is the only work of hers that stands out because she tried something else BUT released the microwaves singles first for chart protection because was definitely dead before releases. And dont forgot TIWYCF, PLEASE. IT WAS MADE FOR STREAM CHARTING! “Wild Thoughts”= Stream charting. Rihanna and Drake and Billboard artists because they constantly make pop music in hope for #1 placement.

We have to agree to disagree. Anti was not an album with instant hits. The only song on that album that was pop was work. And even work was a risk. She is def not following trends and making creative music as suppose to “radio” music.

      • DanYiel Iman July 26, 2018

Ri-Whine-A flat tones aren’t due to her vocals, the folks writing for her gets most of the CREDIT!!✌??

    • Beam Me Up Scotty July 25, 2018

It’s ok for Cardi B though right? Stay pressed.

  3. I HATE WHYYYTE…N BLLLLLACK B.ITCHEEZ THEY NOT SHT July 25, 2018

He is competing with Rihanna she has a double album out Drake has double album out……….

Especially now that rhianna told him to go to hell he wants to compete with her on the charts

  4. JOHNVIDAL July 26, 2018

Both of them inflated to the gawds thanks to streaming and nowadays fast-paced climate. Real impact: none. At least he still could move real album units a couple of years ago…
