Tinashe may have only just dropped much delayed sophomore album ‘Joyride,’ but she’s already has the set in rearview.
Case in point, the release today of new song ‘Like I Used To.’
Said to be lifted from an entirely fresh project (yes, already), the breezy R&B jam finds the newly-single chanteuse reflecting on a love gone wrong. Apt timing given her very public (and increasingly messy) split from NBA star Ben Simmons.
Take a listen below…
Hmm.
While this makes a for a somewhat solid listen, it doesn’t pack the heat or urgency needed from Nashe at this point.
The entire ‘Joyride’ debacle – pre and post release – has placed her in quite the predicament. Then factor in the fact that she’s yet to swing as hard as her debut track full stop and it makes the “oh, that’s cute” air the song evokes a little less acceptable.
At this juncture, she really ought to slap us over the face with undeniable bangers rather than transitional cuts like this; cuts that pleasantly plod along while sounding no different to music already out there in the Urban sphere.
I’ve heard a few snippets from this project & this is exactly what she needed to release right now.. she has some bangers on it but in the midst of all the Ben drama she’s shutting down rumors & addressing it through her music. Smart idea
I said the same thing. She has another song called “with the sh*ts”. Banger. She’s carving her lane and I’m very proud and happy she’s not letting off the gas. Keeping it pushing.
This song I wasn’t here for at first but now that I hear it properly I like it.
Also, I can’t wait to hear “Naked”, “I’m The S***”, and “Fashion Nova”.
@teamtinashe yassss Fashion nova, gasing all these bishes ay!!!
This woman’s pen game is so dope. I wish ppl would realize how ill of an artist she is. She’s so consistent. Her music is superb, current sounding yet forward pushing. This is her lane and I’ll forever be a supporter.
What we NOT gonna do is talk about her doing music that sounds like everything on the radio unless we call out Beyonce & JAY Z(APESH*T; the entire album), Normani, Cardi, and etc making songs no different then what we here.

I’m finding out ppl r trying their best to keep using that argument towards Tee but support others when they do it.
Ps I like the song and I’m glad she’s OVER Joyride as I was. Her worst body of work to date (blame that on label).
“Like I Used To” available EVERYWHERE!!!

Her music doesn’t even sound like anyone else tho. Her song writing and style is very her. Only core fans would understand this is her lane and she’s not chasing “radio” or trends like the fore mentioned
And like you mentioned…everything on Bey and Jays perfect sounds generic. It’s like they locked a team of writers and producers in a room and they came out in 30mins with the most basic garbage sounding hooks they could think of and Jay just wrote his lil raps and threw it on there. But of course, it’s the queen so she gets rave reviews for basic sounding music as per usual.
Exactly!!!
Journalists are trash these days, very timid of stans lol.
By the way Tinashe and Future will be HEADLINING “Maxim’s Hot 100” event together.
HASHTAG: #TinasheSTAYSBOOKED 😉
She sounds good when she does more urban tones that pop music isn’t for her styling!!
Same old forgettable tune and lyrics that say nothing.
The only good thing about this song is the beat, but even that is so basic. I’m going to have to pass on this one.
This actually has potential at urban radio if her label gets behind this. She needs a huge, multi-format smash, but excepting that, I guess this might work.
I’m always on the fence with Tinashe. She’s talented and has a strong work ethic, but there’s always this weird disconnect with her. I don’t believe her, I want her to really let go and have fun.
