Azealia Banks has offered some thoughts on Normani‘s performance style.
Her assessment? That the gifted performer is doing a good “Beyonce impersonation.”
Banks was at home watching Normani rock TIDAL x Brooklyn and had this to say….

Normani does an excellent beyoncè impression. That is all I’m going to say. I do think she is beautiful and talented and I do enjoy her … I just hope this isn’t another one of those industry replacement scenarios. Like when the Illuminati has rinsed one star they need a new one.
Normani is currently celebrating the release of two new Calvin Harris-backed singles and the success of her smash hit single ‘Love Lies.’
Janet and Beyonce are her idols, of course she will draw inspiration.

The way Normani performs is remarkably similar to Beyoncé. Right down to the small subtle details and finest gestures. I don’t think it’s on purpose tho. It’s simply studying the greats. The same way Beyoncé studies Tina, Michael and Janet and her performances had similarities to them before she created her own style.
Influence is one thing but to have a all girl band, dress like her, walk like her and even pose/stand like her is just way too much.
Agreed. I think her team needs to do some serious restructuring with her performance and appearance if they want her to pop. I’ve watched her performance over 20x and while amazing…this style of performance it too mature and dated looking for a fresh artist. No one is into this overly sensual/heavy sexual performance style anymore that Beyoncé does.
If you look at all the popping urban acts: Solange, Sza, Her, Ella Mae even Tinashe…they are more edgy and off beat and carving their own lane.
None of those new age artists you named are great performers though. With the exception of maybe Tinashe and even she is not a better performer than Beyoncé. She hasn’t mastered the stage yet, commanding and captivating the audience, etc. And the elements that do make Tinashe a good performer, are the same traditional, textbook elements drawn from people like Janet, Tina, and even Mya. Just like Beyoncé. I don’t see how you think some new performing style has replaced the sensual/sexual style that “no one is into” when none of those artists has had touring success or has had at least one distinguished memorable live performance. Maybe you prefer their performing style over Beyoncé’s now, but to insinuate that in general people are into the performing style of people like SZA, Her, Ella Mai, etc. and no one is into Beyoncé’s is a lie that literally no evidence supports.
Solange incorporates performance art in her live shows. Sza does some weirdly entertaining hand gestures while singing. HER Plays instruments and Ella mai just sings. Normani is fine the way she is.

I usually try and see the good in Azealia Banks and was just rocking to Anna Wintour the other day, but there is no reason to tear down a fresh young talent who is so positive such as Normani. Lol Normani need not concern herself with Beyoncé comparisons the same way Ariana didn’t concern herself with MC comparisons. When an artist starts getting in their own head too much and dulls the vision for the sake of I don’t want the people to think I’m trying to copy they end up like Kelly Rowland.

Name one thing that is similar about Beyoncé and Diana Ross other than them being lead singers of amazing popular groups? Their style of singing,performing, and personalities are totally different. Beyoncé and Tina are only similar in performance and absolutely nothing else. You don’t even know their catalogue enough to keep claiming that because if you did, you would know how wrong you were. I enjoy all three ladies.

Does she ever wonder why people do not want to have any dealings with her. She’s so self absorbed and throws unnecessary shade. Is Azalea Banks mentally ill? I’m not making fun of her, I’m seriously asking. Because whenever I Google her name all that comes up is her trolling someone on the internet. And now she’s insulting Normani, who is an intelligent and seemingly Nice young black woman trying to succeed in the music industry, so an attack from a fellow young black woman trying to succeed in the music industry is really weird to put it lightly. Last I heard, Azalea Banks was trying to fight Drake and a little black girl (a child!) on Disney Channel so I have no idea what’s going on. Is this woman insane?
