Grammy Winner Ashanti Forced To Cancel Show After Selling 24 Tickets

Published: Saturday 20th Oct 2018 by David

Not enough is made up of Ashanti‘s contributions to black music and Pop culture as a whole.

Filling a void left by those of her peers who soared in the 90s, the ‘Rain on Me‘ performer dominated the early 00s with a thread of hits which in many ways laid the foundation for a number of her more-celebrated contemporaries to launch their careers from.

Alas, in a world that is just as fickle as it is forgetful, Ashanti often finds herself shunned by the very industry and audiences she has given her art to.

Their latest slight?

Find out below…

The performer was set to storm Stony Brook University’s Back To Brook event this month but learned that the show was cancelled because it had only sold 24 tickets. A far cry from the sold-out shows she recently delivered overseas.

The school shared…

As an organization, we do our best to host programs for students while providing diversity and inclusion. However, we have struggled to execute certain aspects. With a week before the concert, only 24 tickets are sold to students.

The singer, who has sold over 15 million albums worldwide (pure sales) is yet to respond to the startling news.

It’s ok, Ashanti come on down here and do a show where I am and we’ll show up and show out.

I wish you all would’ve included that in the school’s statement they stated she was a last minute replacement and the school had little to no time to properly promote that Ashanti would be performing! Ppl try their hardest to clown her but just wait until this Ashanti x Metro Boomin project drops…

Rain on me? Really n**** ???

  6. Finish him October 20, 2018

First of all, this must be result of crappy marketing because i live in the area and would have definitely attended but honestly, i didnt even hear about it until now ??‍♂️! Ashanti is from Long Island and still has a huge following here so I’m sure if it had been marketed properly she could’ve easily sold out.

If the event was only open to students then i could see how this happened though, the majority of stony brook university students are Asian. This could’ve easily of happened to any “urban” R&B act aside from Bey & Rih ?

Not really. She is liked by millions of people but she is an older artist so this is bound to happen if she is not promoted. People are not gonna buy tickets for a concert they don’t know exists.

    Why y’all reported this ? This isn’t news . It’s shade.

  11. Fancy BISH October 20, 2018

I guess everybody who bought tickets were front row or close to it…..damn if they were in the back lmaooooo ? She’ll move on….this wasn’t an “Omarion in Africa” level of fail

    • Are you kidding me? October 21, 2018

Distance has 28 million views and his song with Tiwa Savage has 8 million. What exactly is a fail now that other artists are catching onto the Afrobeat craze?

I guess having a grammy doesn’t mean everything.

Fire your marketing squad. To me she’s a legend. I still play her stuff…Even Beyonce herself imitated Ashanti on a few magazine covers. This is crazy.Keep your head up.The right event will draw fans..We exist. We love you.

Ashanti I love you girl come back to Texas I’ll see you again

Ashanti was past her prime in 2008, and yet ppl expect 2018 college students to know her? Stop blaming the younger generation when the truth is, hardly no one but her fanbase cares about her. As an adult who grew up during the peak of her career,I wouldn’t even go to a free Ashanti concert. So many more adults wouldn’t either. Ashanti’s time has came and went. The only people who don’t seem to get it are her fans.I just can’t get over her fans blaming mumble rap ??just pathetic!

They really didn’t have to be so shady and say exactly 24 tickets. They should’ve just said the show was canceled because they didn’t sell enough tickets and then group chat those people to give them their refunds. That was just cold hearted and mean!
