Janet Jackson Leads ‘Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’ 2019 Nominations

Published: Tuesday 9th Oct 2018 by Sam

Nominees for the 2019 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame have been announced and once again Janet Jackson leads the pack.

The superstar singer had been shortlisted for entry into the classes of both 2016 and 2017 – leaving many wondering whether it’ll be third time lucky.

Head below to find out more, including who else has made the ballot…

Organisers for the coveted honor revealed that the following are also up for possible induction:

LL Cool J, Def Leppard, Devo, John Prine, Kraftwerk, MC5, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Roxy Music, Rufus & Chaka Kahn, Stevie Nicks, the Cure, Todd Rundgren, and the Zombies.

If some of the names look familiar in the “induction” narrative, it’s because they are.

Indeed, nine of the 15 artists have been nominated before.

The RRHOF Class of 2019 is decided by an international body of more than 1,000 voting members.

However, fans can impact the vote by heading to RockHall.com and casting a ballot for their preferred artist (one vote per day). Voting kicks off today and ends December 9th.

Thereafter, the top 5 acts picked by the public will make up a special ‘fans’ ballot’ that is counted along with the traditional votes.

Set to take place March 29th 2019 at the Barclays Center in New York, tickets for the induction ceremony are set to go on-sale in January.

Does Madonna even have a single rock song??? Yet she is already in. How was N.W.A. able to get in before Janet? They had two hits. The “Rhythm Nation” album is more iconic than N.W.A.’s entire career.

Janet has “Black Cat” which was #1 and “What About”. We can even mention “This Time” and “Trust a Try”. All rock/rock-ish.

According to Billboard, Janet is the third most successful female artist of all-time (#1 African-American) and seventh most successful act EVER even above Michael who is number eight. https://www.billboard.com/charts/greatest-hot-100-artists

Somehow we still have to argue for Janet. It’s hard being black and even harder being a black woman. #newagenda

Preach! The misogyny and racism is real. this woman has had more impact in the overall industry than almost anyone on that list.

Which is a lie since we all know Whitney Houston, woman and black, was much more successful than Janet. Look at the pucking album sales in the usa and worldwide. Like double. Billboard counts things in certain ways, Janet had a lot of singles, while Whitney was a bigger album seller. But truth is truth. Janet is not the 3rd best female music artist ever. I´m sorry.

@Janet was the 2nd most successful female of the 90’s (behind Mariah) and after 2000 had 1 album (all for you) that outsold everything Whitney did after the year 2000 combined, not to mention Janet is number 7 and Whitney number 9 on Billboards most popular of all time list. Janet’s tours were always bigger and though Whitney was by far the better singer, Janet was ten times more creative and innovative with her music, videos, style etc. Janet was an albums and singles seller, they both were. But all around: music, album sales, single sales/performance, touring, videos, creativity, innovation, trend setting.. Janet surpassed Whitney. Whitney’s the voice though for sure.

Technically this list is for the hot 100 only. If it were going by album performance Whitney would definitely be above Janet, though personally I much prefer Janet.

Dam another year that she wont even get in, at this point beyonce will be eligible and in the rock hall of fame before janet lmao

    • Caleb October 9, 2018

Destiny’s Child will actually be eligible in 2023.
