With the grip of the global health crisis still wrapped tight around the entertainment sector, Glastonbury 2021 has become the first major festival to be scrapped.

Organizers for the world-renown extravaganza issued a statement moments ago confirming that – despite their best efforts – this year’s incarnation will not be proceeding.

It read:

Now in its 52nd year, Glastonbury has played host to epic showings from the likes of Beyonce, Adele, the Rolling Stones, and Jay-Z. The hope was to add more major names to its history, but that sadly won’t be the case this year.

It remains to be seen how other festivals in other markets will fare.

On the one hand, the arrival of a vaccine has encouraged the live landscape. Yet, with its roll-out, timing, and rules (e.g. mandatory for such events?) still being unclear, it’s not far fetched to expect further cancellations.
