Alexandra Performs At Little Noise Sessions (Must See!)

That Grape Juice reader Chelsie sent along these videos of Alexandra Burke performing at the Little Noise Sessions (for chairty) in Islington, North London earlier this week. During her rousing set, Ms. Burke offered an acoustic rendition of first single ‘Hallelujah’ (which you can watch above), as well as ‘The Silence’, ‘Listen’ and Jackson 5 classic ‘I’ll Be There’, which you watch after the jump.  (She did perform ‘Bad Boys’, but the quality of vid isn’t hot LOL).

Alexandra Readies ‘Broken Heels’

alex a copy

British Pop sensation and winner of ‘The X Factor’, Alexandra Burke, has confirmed that the next single to be lifted off of her album ‘Overcome’ will be none other than ‘Broken Heels’. The track was written by Nadir Khyatt, Bilal Hajji and Savan Kotecha, and produced by RedOne.

Having listened to the entire album and disliked most of the material, I wasn’t very interested in the future of this project all, to be honest. However, I was hoping that her camp would have selected ‘The Silence’ as the second release because it is by far the best song on the record. ‘Bad Boys’ is an infectious up-tempo that definitely grew on me (especially after the video came out) but ‘Broken Heels’ is dead in the water. Either way, I’m sure her label won’t spare any expense to make sure that it’s effectively rammed down our throats. Sigh…

Alexandra Burke Performs ‘The Silence’ On Paul O’Grady

Continuing along the promotional trail for her debut LP ‘Overcome’, 2009 break out  Alexandra Burke stopped by The Paul O’ Grady Show early this evening to perform album cut ‘The Silence’.

One word. Amazing!

Vocally in another league, Alexandra continues to show why her name will be one that long outlives any talent show. Absolutely fantastic. Here’s hoping this becomes a single ASAP!

Alexandra Burke Performs ‘They Don’t Know’ And ‘Bad Boys’ Viva

X Factor star Alexandra recently performed a set for MTV Europe’s new channel VIVA. You can watch her performance of album cut ‘They Don’t Know’ above, as well as her #1 hit ‘Bad Boys’ below:

I’m glad that she’s starting to perform more of the material from ‘Overcome’. The only problem is that that material isn’t very good

‘They Don’t Know’ left me so bored that I was hoping that the video would stop working halfway through. Alex has a great voice, but this album does not feature engaging enough material. Furthermore, although I really like ‘Bad Boys’ I’m growing a lil’ tired of watching her perform it, although it’s a plus that she’s singing it live now.

Alexandra Burke Performs ‘Bad Boys’ Live (Legit Live!)

Alexandra Burke hit up T4 over the weekend to perform her smash ‘Bad Boys’, which rocketed to the top spot on Sunday (besting Leona Lewis’ ‘Bleeding Love’ numbers in the process).
Refreshing to see here was the fact that Alexandra was clearly singing live here, as evidenced by her imperfectness of the vocal (it was a great vocal showing nonetheless). As ever, Ms. Burke served up the business with this one. Great performance!

Alexandra Burke Performs ‘Bad Boys’ On GMTV

Alexandra Burke stopped by GMTV this morning for a chat, as well as perform her smash hit single ‘Bad Boys’. Peep the interview above, and the performance below:

Awesome performance! She really is giving everything and then some with these live showings; she really performs with the swagger of an older, more seasoned artist.

I must touch upon, however, the fact that she was lip-synching. No, not a big deal at all, because we all know she can sing – no questions about that. However, with the audio here sounding almost exactly the same as the X-Factor performance (aside from the new bridge – which I love, by the way), it’s pretty evident this was a pre-recorded live vocal. Anyone who watched the X-Factor the year she won will know that the beauty of her voice is that it’s raw and not necessarily a polished Pop voice – hence the odd off-note here and there as well as spontaneous adlibbing – none of which have featured in her note perfect -even though she’s dancing – performances. Not downing her at all, just stating the facts. Great performance!

Alexandra Performs ‘Bad Boys’ On X-Factor (1st Live Performance!)

Alexandra Burke gave the first live performance of her brand new single ‘Bad Boys’ moments ago on the first results show of this year’s X-Factor (which we will be reviewing shortly).

Put simply, Alexandra nailed it! I mean ‘ball out of the park’ nailed it! I was particularly impressed, as she sold me a song that I’m not really feeling with this performance. It’s important to note that, as a student of Mariah and la Janet’s live performances, I’m pretty cert Ms. Burke lip-synched the majority of the performance to a pre/re-recorded version of the track (with all the added breathing and other live-sounding effects). That said, knowing that she can sing like this live on any given day, I’m not too fussed at the utilisation of a pre-recorded track here. Watching this cemented the fact that she’ll be around for a long while…

Alexandra Opens Up About Family Drama

alexandra Alexandra Opens Up About Family Drama

In a revealing new interview in the latest issue of Marie Claire magazine, Alexandra Burke opens up about her troubled family life, as well as the downsides of fame:

X Factor winner Alexandra Burke has confessed that her new-found fame has had a devastating effect on her family.
The 21-year-old singer admitted that her success on the show has led to clashes with her mother and indirectly to her brother Aaron’s attempted suicide.

Burke said her mother Melissa, who sang with 80s group Soul II Soul, finds it hard to cope with her daughter’s fame since she won the show.

In a revealing interview accompanied by a stunning photoshoot for Marie Claire Alexandra said: ‘She had Soul II Soul but it didn’t last as long as she wanted it to last.

‘Then I get this big new show, I win it, and it’s weird for her to see this.

‘Although she’s proud, it’s like she wants to rewind time to when she was younger, when she didn’t have kids.

‘I’ve never talked about this by the way. We’re not a perfect family. Things p*** me off.’

That includes being kicked out of the house at the age of 16 – she admits for the next two-and-a-half years she barely talked to her family.

The singer and her mother made up and were further reconciled during the X Factor auditions, which Alex needed persuading to attend.

She ended up winning the whole thing, starring in a duet with Beyonce in the grand final, but still the family came under strain as jealous neighbours subjected them to a campaign of harrassment in Islington, north London.

Thugs threw stones at her car and smashed a window in their block of flats and even used the name of her No.1 hit – which sold a record 105,000 copies in one day – as they abused her.

She said: ‘Every time I come out it’s abusive names. They start singing Hallelujah and shouting “Alexandra the Bitch’. It upsets me.’

The attacks became so bad that brother Aaron, now 16, attempted to take his own life in July this year, and Alex said she still fears for his well being.

She added: ‘He wanted to die. He’s going off the rails. He needs a father figure.’

Alex has now moved to Barnet and is a regular visitor to mentor Cheryl Cole’s home in Surrey.

She said: ‘I am very open with her and she is with me. I tell her lots of things I wouldn’t even tell my sister.’

Despite all the problems, however, Burke is determined to carry on with her pop career and has a new single, Bad Boys, coming out in stores on October 12 (October 11 online). {Source}

While I’m not sure Simon Cowell and co will be pleased with the whole ‘X-Factor blew my family apart’ undercurrent the interview has (and the media are already wrongly having a field day with), I applaud Alex’s realness about the situation. For all those looking to break into the industry, interviews like this really reinforce the fact that it’s really not all glitz and glamour. Not in the slightest.

Alexandra Burke ‘Bad Boys’ Video

The hotly anticipated video for ‘Bad Boys’, the lead single from Alexandra Burke’s debut album ‘Overcome’, premiered today. Directed by Bryan Barber (Outkast’s ‘Hey Ya’, ‘Roses’ and LeToya’s ‘Not Anymore’), the clip is best summed up as visual FIRE! Absolutely loving this one; this coming from one who was not sold on the song previously. Showing the confidence and all-round skill of a performer years deep in the game, Alex worked the hell out of this video; she gave me, with this, fierce, diva and above all a clear indicator that she – unlike many talent show winners – is in this for the long haul. One of the best videos of the year so far IMO (yes, I said it!). {Thanks Jonelle!}

Alexandra Burke ‘Overcome’ Cover

Alexandra Burke 'Overcome' Cover

Check out the official album cover for Alexandra Burke’s debut ‘Overcome’, which was unveiled today. While I think she looks great, I can’t help but wonder aloud at how her team opted for this pic – which was lifted from the ‘Bad Boys’ single shoot. I mean it doesn’t correlate with the album’s title. Still, I guess it’s the LP’s content that matters most. Here’s hoping she delivers the goods.

Alexandra Burke To ‘Overcome’ On Debut LP

Alexandra Burke To 'Overcome' On Debut LP

X Factor winner Alexandra Burke has revealed that her debut album will be titled ‘Overcome’. Now set for release on October 19th, the singer will now avoid a chart-showdown with mentor Cheryl Cole’s debut solo LP, which hits stores October 26th – the same day Alex was to release hers. {Source}
And the award for worst ‘I won a reality TV talent show’ album title goes to….(!) With Alex herself confirming in the very same interview that the album will feature just 3 ballads, I’m struggling to understand the logic of the record being named after a such a cliche ballad (which ’surfaced’ months ago). This especially with all signs pointing to the LP being an uptempo, danceable affair (see: ‘Bad Boys’). But really, where is the correlation? Here’s hoping, silly title aside, the album actually delivers. Despite numerous plays I’m still on the fence as to my take on ‘Bad Boys’ – it’s either marginally passable, and at best a grower, or completely awful. Anyway…
