Alicia Keys celebrated her 32nd birthday in Madrid yesterday, stepping out in style to hit the 40 Principals Awards.
Collecting the ‘Best US Composer Of The Last Decade’ award in a smouldering black fit, the ‘Samsonite Man’ singer took to the show’s stage to perform ‘Looking For Paradise’ with Alejandro Sanz, hours after her smash single ‘Girl On Fire‘ spent its 20th week in the US Top 20.
Those were the words recently belted by a certain 14-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys. One of many acts on hand to serenade the First Family for the inauguration of their return to the White House, Keys lent a fiery version of her most recent #1 album’s title track - ‘Girl On Fire’.
This time, however, with a twist to commemorate the occasion. See it all below:
With Beyonce ensuring that this year’s Super Bowl is a must-see, music lovers now have even more reason to tune in to the football extravaganza. For, Alicia Keys has been confirmed as the latest act to be bestowed the honor of performing the US National Anthem at the February 3rd event.
(Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Adele)
We asked…and boy did you answer! With a whopping total of over 12,000 votes, the faithful fans of Adele, Beyonce, Brandy, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Jazmine Sullivan, and Rihanna more replied in droves to support their favorites in this vocal contest.
One of our best yet, we asked ‘Who is the Vocal Bible of this generation’? Who is, so to speak, the textbook of vocal prowess for this generation and those after it to follow?
Trailing the steps of legends Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and more, the divas selected for this showdown have proven themselves to be at the top of their respective games – showing off a range, power, and control absent from many of their chart competitors.
Without further adieu, your choice for vocal supremacy awaits:
The turn of the century has unfortunately been accompanied by an under-appreciation of true vocalists. Veritably, it has been clear to see that as production technology has increased its ability, inversely, quality vocal performances have decreased.
Turn on the radio today and you will be assaulted by an abundance of autotune, so much so one may question if he/she is listening to real people or The Transformers…

The stars shined bright last night for the BET Honors 2013.

Check out pics from the red carpet and be sure to let us know who rocked it and who should have, perhaps, filed quietly to their seats!
Be sure to check out the BET Honors on (you guessed it) BET on February 13th.
This week’s That Grape Juice‘Cover Star‘ comes from up-and-coming crooner Tion Phipps. Watch as the US native puts a brand new spin on ‘Brand New Me’ – the latest single from Alicia Keys’ hotly selling 5th LP ‘Girl On Fire’:
Kudos to Tion for his try at the emotional number. Showcasing a tonal quality similar to that of singers Lloyd and Justin Bieber, the 18-year-old was able to capture the sincerity of Alicia’s vocal performance while still putting his own spin on it.
We definitely give this one two thumbs up!
