Besides headlines pertaining to her striking new hair do’, it’s been rather quiet on the Amerie front for the better part of a year.

All is set to change, however, with the release of the 31 year old’s new LP Cymatika Vol. 1next year. Select songs from the album were premièred during her set at the Cotton Club in Paris over the weekend.

Check out her performance of new song ‘Inside You’ below, as well an insight into what we can expect from the LP.

New Song: Amerie – ‘Who’s Gonna Love You?’

amerie 1 New Song: Amerie Whos Gonna Love You?

After a brief hiatus from the spotlight, following the poor performance of her ‘In Love & War’ LP, Amerie is back with new track ‘Who’s Gonna Love You?’ Lifted from the recording sessions for her as yet untitled new album, the song – which was released on Twitter moments ago – is believed to be a buzz track. Check it out after the jump…

Amerie & 4Minute Rock ‘Music Bank’

In Amerie‘s latest performance in her mother’s native of Korea, she teamed up with girl group 4Minute to give a special rendition of her song ‘Heard Em All’ on the Music Bank show today. Though many outside of Asia may not have heard of 4Minute, they are hugely successful in their continent, hence making the performance of particular interest for many. See how they fared above…

Awesome performance! Amerie’s swagger, vocals, and look were overly on-point, while 4Minute nailed it. Good stuff.

Amerie Performs On M!Countdown

After the commercial disappointment that was Amerie‘s ‘In Love & War’ LP, the singer has kept a relatively low profile Stateside. Not one to give up, the 30 year old is currently in her mother’s native country of Korea, promoting the project. Check out her performance of ‘Heard Em All’ on M!Countdown from yesterday above…

As ever, she nailed it! Her energy and stage presence really are leaps and bounds ahead of some of her contemporaries who top the charts – a fact which makes her lack of success as of late a little hard to swallow.

That said, in keeping it 100% real, her last album was lacking. The material was just not hitting the spot. I mean, for an artist who is so easily marketable as a talented R&B/Pop act, I was confused as to why she seemed to be going down such a niche/alternate-sounding route. After all, her biggest success to-date has come with such a sound (‘One Thing’). I mean for as much as Def Jam may not have promoted the project, the material (for the most part) didn’t boast much in the way of hit-potential – hence its eventual fate IMO.

On a more positive though, word has it for her next release Amerie will be re-engaging with the Synth-Pop/R&B sound which made 2007′s  ’Because I Love It’ LP, such a delight. Here’s hoping she’s more successful this go round – too much talent to go to waste.

New Video: Amerie – ‘More Than Love (Ft. Fabolous)’

Singer Amerie has just released the video for her new sing’e ‘More Than Love’ from her ‘In Love & War’ album. The clip for the Del Pearson and Lenny Nicholson-produced track features rapper Fabolous. To date, ‘In Love & War’ has yet to surpass 30, 000 units in US sales.

Simple and to the point, this video really encapsulates the message of the song. Although the extended narration at the beginning was quite tedious to endure (it was over a minute long), the rest of the clip served its purpose. Conversely, one has to wonder if this single has the potential to save Amerie’s project. With Fabolous’ verse being the most interesting facet of the track, I am still baffled as to why the label chose to release this song as a single. However, the mere fact that her camp is still supporting her by releasing this is a sign that maybe they still have hope that ‘In Love & War’ has some life left after all.

Amerie Unfazed By Album Sales

amerie 3 Amerie Unfazed By Album Sales

R&B singer Amerie recently spoke to our good friends over at Rap-Up.com about the poor performance of her latest LP ‘In Love & War’. The 31 year old stunner isn’t ‘sweating’ sales, because she apparently sees ‘the bigger picture’. This despite, the album (her Def Jam debut) selling just 12,500 in its first week and only managing a lowly #46 peak on the Billboard 200:

On The Album’s Sales

“It’s a very weird time. I didn’t worry about it ’cause I felt like it’s not about the first week. I knew when the album came out, it wasn’t coming out with a big hit ’cause we just went to radio with the ‘Pretty Brown’ record two weeks before the album came out, so we already knew it was going to be one of those over time things vs. a first week thing, which is cool.”

On not setting expectations of herself due to unpredictability of industry

“There’s no way to tell right now. I was actually curious ’cause I kept saying, ‘This is interesting, going to radio with a song and two weeks later your album is coming out.’ I’ve never really done it like that before.”

On the iTunes error which saw the album not available on the leading music outlet

“That was weird. I don’t know what happened with that. The people at iTunes are really cool. I just thought that was so odd. They tried to fix it as fast as they could.”

Though I feel both the album and Amerie herself are criminally underrated, I’m sure hoping she was putting on her media/political ‘face’ on when giving this answer. For, if not, her ramblings would be denial personified. Having interviewed her for this very project, she came across very intelligent to me, so I’d lean more towards the notion of her knowing internally that her label screwed all the way up and that she’s putting on a brave face.

The whole situation is such a shame, as had Def Jam paid even a fraction of the attention they paid to Rihanna (yes, I went there), I’m sure Amerie would be performing a lot better than she is. Not to be confused as me taking a pop at Ms. Fenty (which I’m legitimately not, it’s in no way her fault), it’s oh-so-annoying seeing a label pump money into a less talented entity, when they have a performer of Amerie’s calibre on their roster. If we’re talking aesthetics too, Amerie is equally if not more stunning – but that’s just my opinion. In any case, it seems like this album is done. SMH…

Amerie Performs ‘Heard Em All’ On Kimmel

Despite the dismal sales forecast for Amerie’s latest effort ‘In Love & War’, the singer continues to press on with her promotional attempts, most recent a trip to the Jimmy Kimmel Live show to perform new single ‘Heard Em All’.

Ms. Rogers delivered a pretty decent performance, yet you’d know never know judging by how dead the crowd were (can they be blamed, though? Probably their first time hearing the song!). I worry a little for what the future holds for this immense talent; when will she finally get her deserved kudos?

Amerie’s ‘In Love And War’ Set To Bomb

amerie 2 Ameries In Love And War Set To Bomb

With just a few hours left before the final sales figures are available, HitsDailyDouble is reporting that Amerie’s ‘Love And War’ has thus far sold a dismal 7, 7o3 units based on 54% of the tallied retailers. The record is on track to debut at #7 on the Billboard 200, clocking a projected total of 15-17, 000 units. Thus far, none of Amerie’s 3 singles have managed to appear on the Billboard Hot 100, with ‘Why R U’ peaking the highest on the Hip-Hop/R&B charts at #55.

I highly doubt that this comes as a shock to anyone. With horribly handled promotion, a blatant lack of media presence and zero radio support, there was no way that this was going to be a top-seller. Amerie is definitely talented but talent alone does not equate to a successful album. Many people would suggest that the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of her label, Island Def Jam, which we all know support some of their other far less gifted artists (who shall remain unnamed…) a lot more than those with actual talent. I would have to agree with some of that criticism as well. However, the material on this record did not scream “mega-hit” either so the real fault truly resides with all of the parties involved, including Amerie herself.

Amerie Performs ‘Why R U’ On 106 & Park

Amerie continues on her promo grind for her 4th studio album ‘In Love & War’, this week stopping by BET’s 106 & Park to perform previous single ‘Why R U’. Still not sold on the song, but a great performance nonetheless. I see she’s making the weave-shaking/dutty-whine hybrid a trademark move. I like!
