Check out this new photoshoot of Amerie, shot by noted photographer Dereck Blanks. It’s hard to think she’s almost 30. She looks stunning. Be on the look out for her Def Jam debut later this year.

Peep Amerie looking fly, as usual, in this new promo pic. The latest addition to the Def Jam roster is currently working on the follow-up to her ‘Because I Love It’ LP, with a bevy of hit-makers including Bryan Michael Cox and Ne-Yo.

Former Fugees star Pras performed his 1998 hit ‘Ghetto Superstar’ at the AFI Awards in honor of Warren Beatty – who starred in the film the song was the title track to ‘Bulworth’. In somewhat of an odd pairing, R&B singer Amerie joined him onstage to perform the song. Though her rendition added a fresh slant to the track, I’m not so sure I was actually feeling it; I can’t put my finger on what was ‘off’ about it, other than the fact that something was. Where the hell was Mya (the original feature artist), anyway?

The Best You Never Heard, this week, serves up little known gems by Rihanna, Amerie, Mario and LeToya. Do you have any suggestions for future instalments? Drop me an email at sam@thatgrapejuice.net
Rihanna – Music Of The Sun
Though seemingly a distant memory, the Rihanna that burst on to the scene just three years ago had yet to have her Bajan roots (musically) diluted. A great example of this is ‘Music of The Sun’ the title track of her 2005 debut. With its Caribbean flavoured production and laid back feel, the track still stands as one of my favourite Rihanna tracks – not that that means much LOL

That Grape Juice reported back in Febraury that Amerie was on the verge of signing with Def Jam. According to Contact Music, the singer’s move to the LA Reid headed label, which is the home of Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Ne-Yo etc, became finalized recently. Check out the report below:Singer AMERIE is set to undergo a career overhaul – after signing a deal with the record label which turned RIHANNA into an international superstar.
The 1 Thing hitmaker has parted ways with Columbia Records and inked a deal with Def Jam, the company that secured the massive track Umbrella for Rihanna last year (07), catapulting her to global fame.
And Amerie, who has previously released two albums to moderate success, is hoping the new contract with Def Jam will help boost her career to even greater heights.A source tells Britain’s Daily Star newspaper, “Amerie’s first two albums did well, but she’s ready to step it up a gear now.
“She was offered a deal too good to turn down and the promise to build upon her reputation for classy and sexy R&B.”
On a personal note, as a supporter of real talent, I am real pleased for Amerie and optimistic about what the future holds for her. If Def Jam can do what they’ve done with Rihanna for the much more talented Amerie (IMO), then she really may be in with a chance of hitting it BIG.

R&B singer Amerie was snapped at the Maxim Hot 100 party earlier this week rocking a new look. Though her natural beauty is hard to deny, something looks kinda off with her latest look – I can’t put my finger on what it is though.

While the song has grown on me a little more, the video looks set to be a bore. I’m also finding it hard to ignore the striking similarities between this and the clip for their single ‘Unappreciated’. Cherish’s new album ‘The Truth’ hits stores on May 3rd.

After months of speculation, it appears that R&B songstress Amerie has severed ties with Columbia Records, following the removal of her name from the labels roster. The singer’s third studio album ‘Because I Love It’, though critically acclaimed and a hit in Europe, did not receive a Stateside release. Instead, a succession of proposed release dates, came and went without yielding the album. Reliable sources confirm that the singer is currently locked in talks LA Reid’s Def Jam. {Source}
