After a lengthy break on the bench, ‘TGJ Replay’ is back!
Designed much like our ‘Retro Rewind’ and ‘From the Vault’ segments, ‘Replay’ is That Grape Juice‘s newest retrospective segment - a written quest, if you will, to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday.
Unlike its ‘Rewind’ and ‘Vault’ predecessors, ‘Replay’ looks to dust off and showcase entire albums (and eras) from a library of pop and Urban pop music hits. Today we roll down memory lane to Queen of Quiet Storm Anita Baker (who celebrated a birthday this week) and her 1994 comeback album ‘Rhythm of Love’:

The annual “Dick Clark New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” festivity is happening as we speak on ABC.
With acts like Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, and Jason Derulo hitting the stage to ring in 2014, fans are glued to television sets Stateside to countdown the arrival of the New Year on each of the country’s coasts.
But, before viewers could get a glimpse of the night’s performers, ABC shared a special countdown “30 Greatest Women in Music” to honor and rank their favorite dynamic divas. While the expected entries like Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Barbra Streisand found interesting placements on the tally, it was their younger counterparts (i.e. Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga) whose appearances on the list polarized fans.
Nevertheless, no criteria for the ladies’ ranking has been revealed. So, for those who have yet to see it, cop and gander and tell us your thoughts below:

Fergie, Anita Baker, Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, Justin Timberlake.
First mention of the aforementioned names usually evoke memories of some of the past two decades’ top pop hits. However, as our list below details, even some of music’s most prized acts have hit their fair share of sour notes.
Every year on U.S. ‘Independence Day’ the likes of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Beyonce are oft-praised for their awe-inspiring renditions of the U.S. national anthem ‘The Star Spangled Banner’, while other renditions of the historical number will go down in history for some less flattering reasons.
Forgotten words, bum notes, and all around embarrassment await below. See our top 10 list of the “best of the worst” ‘Star Spangled Banner’ performances and weigh in:

Much like our ‘Retro Rewind’ and ‘From the Vault’ segments, readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past. So in a quest to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday we introduced a new retrospective segment – ‘TGJ Replay’.
Unlike its ‘Rewind’ and ‘Vault’ predecessors, ‘Replay’ looks to dust off and showcase albums (and eras) from a library of pop music hits. Today’s conspectus comes from the Queen of Quiet Storm – Anita Baker.
The singer’s sophomore album ‘Rapture’ thrust her into the stratosphere of 80s prime R&B and made her the forerunner of a new movement for the genre:

R&B legend Anita Baker has much cause to celebrate these days. For, along with a storied career featuring timeless hits like ‘Sweet Love’ and ‘Giving You The Best That I Got’, her 2012 remake of Tyrese‘s hit ‘Lately’ nabbed The Songstress her best debut ever and flew right to the top of the R&B charts.
Now, as Baker preps for this week’s Grammys (her version of the tune was nominated for “Best Traditional R&B Performance”), she made a rare appearance this week by Jimmy Kimmel Live to lend the first televised showing of her latest smash.
Also taking the crowd to task with a rousing showing of ‘Same Ole Love‘ from her signature ‘Rapture’ album, see Mama Anita at work below:
