The Pope’s visit to to the United States reached exciting new heights hours ago when the singer Aretha Franklin performed the song ‘Amazing Grace‘ at the Festival Of Families.

There, she graced its attendees with a moving rendition of the song which was penned by the brutal slave trader John Newton who wrote the iconic number following his conversion to Christianity.

Vote: Who Should Be The 2015 BET Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient?

Exactly two weeks separate us from the 2015 BET Awards!

Airing live on June 28th, the 15th annual showing of Urban entertainment’s biggest night is set to be hosted by ‘black-ish’ stars Tracee Ellis Ross & Anthony Anderson and (to date) has seen Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, and Chris Brown announced among stars tapped to hit the stage.

But, per usual, BET is saving for last its announcement of who will be the recipient of the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award.  Already listing legendary acts like Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle, Prince, and Lionel Richie among its honorees, the 2015 trophy has been shrouded in murmurs that pop queen Janet Jackson will be its designated awardee.  But, that hasn’t stopped fans of other music royals – Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige, King of R&B R. Kelly, or Queen of Rock N’ Soul Tina Turner – from vying and eyeing the prize.

The legendary Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin is readying new album ‘Aretha Franklin Sings The Great Diva Classics’ for an October 21st release.

And while some of her younger pupils have become accustomed to hitting the promo trail the week of release, the 72-year-old icon is heeding the old school way of “working a record” by promoting in earnest in the lead-up to its arrival.

Her latest stop was the Today Show this morning, where she thrilled with a rousing rendition of Etta James’ ‘At Last’.

The Queen Of Soul Salutes Another Diva Classic


Aretha Franklin is back.

As reported, the Queen Of Soul is readying a new album – under the stewardship of Clive Davis – titled ‘Aretha Franklin Sings The Great Diva Classics’.

Set for release on October 21st, the intriguing project sees the legend pay homage to a carefully curated list of classics and has thus far spawned a cover of Adele‘s ‘Rolling In The Deep’. 

Today, though, brings with it another cut from the LP. This time it’s Franklin’s take on Gloria Gaynor‘s classic anthem ‘I Will Survive’, which she has fused with Destiny’s Child‘s mega-smash ‘Survivor’.
