Extended Trailer: ‘The New Edition Story’ Biopic [BET Special]

Michael Bivins, Ronnie Devoe, Bobby Brown, Ralpha Tresvant, Ricky Bell, and Johnny Gill – better known as New Edition – have individually and collectively been some of R&B’s most unsung heroes.  Come January 2017, that will change.

‘The New Edition Story,’ airing on BET on January 24, 25, and 26, will come as a six-hour/three night event set to give long-awaited insight into the story of one of the genre’s most electrifying groups.  Following their journey from the streets of Boston to the stages of Hollywood and beyond, the group – best known for its hits ‘Candy Girl,’ ‘If It Isn’t Love,’ ‘Cool It Now,’ and ‘Mr. Telephone Man,’ will see their tale brought to life via portrayals by ‘Empire’ star Bryshere Y. Gray (Bivins), singer Luke James (Gill), Elijah Kelly (Bell), and many more.

The tweeted quote above seemed to sum up the sentiment of many-a-viewer of the tonight’s BET Awards after ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star, Jesse Williams, took to the stage to accept the ‘Humanitarian of the Year’ award.

In what came as an unexpected, yet much needed address of the U.S.’s ongoing problems with racial tension, Williams sought to redirect attention from himself and lend a lens to the ever-present #BlackLivesMatter movement.  Stirring up some major ‘amens’ from the audience and social media alike, get into his jaw-dropping 5 minute speech below:

Tonight marked the return of BET’s highly anticipated ode to women of color ‘Black Girls Rock.’

Much like its ‘BET Honors’ counterpart, the event enlists some of music’s best and brightest performers to serenade and shine light on women of color who have made impacts on and in their respective personal and professional communities.

Airing moments ago, the Tracee Ellis Ross hosted showing honored R&B legend Gladys Knight, Grammy-winning hitmaker Rihanna, and so many more.

AJ & Free Confirm ‘106 & Park’ Reboot Was “April Fool’s Joke” #ICYMI

Yesterday, AJ Calloway –  original host of BET’s defunct daily video countdown show ‘106 & Park’took to Instagram to stir up frenzied hype around news the show was due to return for a spinoff.

Even tapping Kelly Rowland to get in on the action, Calloway served up an oddly timed announcement (as yesterday was ‘April Fools’ Day) to share reports around the show’s reboot which, according to him, would also feature a reunion with the show’s other original host – Free.

Well, as the age old adage goes:  “things are often as they seem.”

For, while there were some who rejoiced at the news, many of the TV personality’s followers immediately clocked the announcement was a very poor ‘April Fools’ joke…and they were right:

Fall 2014 saw fans bid farewell to BET’s hit video countdown show ‘106 & Park’ after 14 years on the air.

Since then, there have been murmurs of a replacement show, but nothing has come to fruition…until now. Sending his followers into a frenzy, original show host Aj Calloway took to Instagram to let fans in on news the show is coming back – with himself and his cohort Free as the hosts!

Let’s hope this isn’t a bad April Fools’ joke:

BET is on a roll!

After thrilling with news that their next year’s programming lineup will feature shows starring Grammy winners Kelly Rowland and Brandy, now fans will have even more to look forward to as reports indicate the #1 Urban network is set to revive MTV’s hit series ‘Punk’d.’

Skyrocketing to fame upon its early 2000s debut, the celebrity prank show listed everyone from Brandy and Kelly Rowland to Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Justin Timberlake among its victims.  Now, as newly surfaced reports show, they and today’s top crop of stars are once again targets at risk…of getting Punkd!

‘Sunday Best’ Showdown: Kim Burrell Weighs In On Infamous Contestant Confrontation

It’s definitely been the “read heard around the world.”

While gospel music lovers normally get their praise and their laughs on during the auditions of BET’s hit faith-based reality singing competition ‘Sunday Best,’ the most memorable moment of the show’s season 7 premiere last week brought with it no laughing matter.

Jaws dropped and wigs snatched came as the aftermath of contestant Dennis Bingham’s berating tirade launched against judges Kim Burrell and Donnie McClurkin for laughing during his audition.  The footage has made its way across the net in a similar fiery fashion, receiving many-an-amen from viewers who supported his stance.

Fed up with the online criticism, the ‘Over and Over Again’ singer took to the stage to voice her side of the story.  Tuck in below to hear her response and get reacquainted with the incident as well:

Chris Rock Named Host of 2014 BET Awards

As fans of Beyonce, Jay Z, Drake, and more rejoiced at news of their fave leading the nominee pack for the 2014 BET Awards, spectators anxiously awaited news on who the year’s host and lifetime achievement award recipient would be.

Well, wonder no more.

For, just moments ago, BET took to Twitter to unveil news that the 14th annual showing of the BET Awards would be hosted by none other than legendary comedian Chris Rock.

Report: BET Cancels ‘Celebration of Gospel’

14-year running series was most watched religious program in TV history

It is said all good things must come to an end.  And, if news sources are to be believed, the latest good thing coming to a close is BET’s top rated religious program ‘Celebration of Gospel’.

After 14 years of seeing its stages graced by the best of R&B and gospel including legends Whitney Houston and The Clark Sisters to new schoolers Monica, Destiny’s Child, and more, the show appeared to be at the height of its popularity.  As the 2014 edition, hosted by Academy Award-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson, boasted the series’ best ratings ever,  fans believed the show’s newest slogan of “forward in faith” was fitting indication that it was moving full speed ahead.

Rumor has it, this isn’t the case:
