Cheri Dennis & Day26 Perform At BET Rip The Runway

Bad Boy artists Cheri Dennis and Day26 performed at yesterday’s BET Rip The Runway event during the Sean John showcase. Dennis, whose album ‘In & Out of Love’ is out now, performed ‘Portrait of Love’, whilst Day26 performed their debut single ‘Got Me Going’. While both performances were ‘ok’, they left a salty taste in my mouth. They are both going to have to step up their live performing game if they hope to make an impact. Random tidbit: Did anyone else spot Cassie getting it during her walk. She should really give up pretending to sing and take up modelling again.

New Releases: Which Will You Buy?

new+album+releases New Releases: Which Will You Buy?Today sees the release of several new R&B/Hip-Hop offerings:
First up is Pop superstar Janet Jackson, who with ‘Discipline’ – her tenth studio album, hopes to redeem herself from the relatively poor sales of her last two records. Though she’s gone on record to say ‘don’t call it a comeback, I never left’, should the sales of ‘Discipline’ exceed expectation, Janet could feasibly make the biggest ‘comeback’ since Mariah’s 2005 triumph. Time will tell.
Eccentric singer Erykah Badu releases her first LP in 5 years ‘New Amerykah – Part 1: 4th World War’ – the follow-up to 2003′s ‘Worldwide Underground’. Released via Universal/Motown, the album features such soulful producers as the late J Dilla, Sa- Ra, 9th Wonder, Madlib and Kareem Riggins.
Other LP’s dropping today include Bad Boy’s Cheri Dennis‘ long-awaited debut ‘In & Out Of Love’. Following its ‘first of its kind’ release strategy of being made available on iTunes several months earlier, the record will be available in physical format as from today.
Oh , and rapper Webbie drops ‘The Savage Life 2′ also.

Which of these albums will you be picking up this week?

Snoop Dogg – ‘Sensual Seduction’ Video

The video for Snoop Dogg’s latest video ‘Sensual Seduction’ made its debut yesterday. I’m kinda shocked that Snoop went through with the concept of the vid, but must say that it worked. Hilarious. It’s actually made me like the song a little better now. The track is the first to be lifted from his 9th studio album ‘Ego Trippin’ (due early 2008).

Cheri Dennis – ‘Portrait Of Love’ Video

The video for Cheri Dennis’ new single ‘Portrait of Love’ kinda premiered yesterday. I say ‘kinda’, as I actually managed to catch the vid last week (thanks Kevin!), however Atlantic Records took it down and kept it on lock and key until the official premiere last night. Anyway, enough with the rambling…

About the video, it’s awesome! After some ten or so years of Cheri being on Bad Boy Diddy finally hooked her up – everything from the video’s budget to it’s concept to the choreography was on point. Great stuff.

Cheri’s debut album ‘In And Out Of Love’ (a very solid effort) is available now on iTunes. The physical version of the LP – which may feature newer tracks – will hit stores in February of next year.

Prince’s Demands Outrage Fans

prince21 Princes Demands Outrage Fans Prince has angered his fans by demanding that all photographs, images, lyrics, album covers and anything linked to his likeness be removed from several fansites. The sites have been served with ‘Cease and Desist’ orders and have been threatened with further legal action for copyright infringement.
Disgruntled webmasters have banded together against the demands by forming the ‘Prince Fans United’ group. Here’s an extract of what they feel about the orders:
“It is our opinion that these threats are not made in an attempt to enforce valid copyright as Prince alleges in his threats, rather we believe they are attempts to stifle all critical commentary about Prince.

We strongly believe that such actions are in violation of the freedom of speech and should not be allowed. Prince claims that fansites are not allowed to present any artwork with Prince’s likeness, to the extreme that he has demanded the removal of fans’ own photographs of their Prince inspired tattoos and their vehicles displaying Prince inspired license plates.”

This has to be a joke, right? Some of these artists are forgetting who made them famous in the first place. A mess.

Cheri Dennis Update

cheridennis Cheri Dennis Update Bad Boy Records artist Cheri Dennis is finally set release her long-delayed debut album, with the Yung Joc collaboration ‘Portrait’ as the CD’s first official single. Label head Diddy confirmed the news at the ‘Bad Boy Upfront’ event in New York this week. For those not familar with Cheri, the talented singer/songwriter has been signed to Diddy’s label for several years and her project has constantly been pushed back in favour of other artists- including Diddy himself. The hold-ups haven’t stopped Cheri from carving out her own way through the industry; she has written tracks for numerous artists including Olivia and Danity Kane. Dennis also sang the theme tune to MTV’s ‘Making The Band’ – ‘Oh La La’. The currently untitled album is slated for a summer release and will feature productions from Ryan Leslie, Byan Michael Cox and Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins.
I’m really hoping her album sees the light of day. If anyone thinks Mya and Kelly Rowland have been pushed back into oblivion, then they don’t know about Cheri. Anyway, the single ‘Portrait’ – which surfaced a few months ago- is a great track and I think it’ll do well. Check it out…

Will you be checking for Cheri?
