Pick Mary J. Blige’s Next Single

mjbpromo Pick Mary J. Bliges Next SingleOn Mary J. Blige’s official website, fans have been given the chance to vote for the next single to be lifted from her ‘Growing Pains’ album. Note that it’s the third single and not the follow-up to ‘Just Fine’ – which has already been confirmed as ‘Work That’. Having dropped a solid, versatile CD, I think there’s a host of great tracks to choose from. My personal vote goes to ‘Stay Down’ – IMO the album’s standout track, with the most potential for success.

Which song do you think should be Mary’s next single?

Chingy Performs ‘Fly Like Me’ On Jay Leno Show

Rapper Chnigy, along with Amerie, stopped by ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’ earlier this week to perform their current single ‘Fly Like Me’. I liked the performance, although Amerie’s vocals seemed kinda strained at times. Anyway, Chingy’s latest album, ‘Hate It Or Love It’ – from which ‘Fly Like Me’ is the first single – is out now.

*The Chingy interview will be posted at the top of next week*

What do you think of the performance?

Mary’s ‘Growing Pains’ Sells 629,000 First Week

mjb22 Marys Growing Pains Sells 629,000 First Week Mary J. Blige made a huge impact on the Billboard 200 album chart with her eighth studio album ‘Growing Pains’. The Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul sold through an impressive 629,000 copies of the LP – the follow-up to her 2005 multi platinum effort ‘The Breakthrough’. Despite this, Blige charted at #2 – unable to oust Josh Groban’s ‘Noel’ album from the top spot (which sold 757,000 in it’s third week of release).
In other album news, Alicia Keys’ ‘As I Am’, currently #3 on the chart, enjoys a 62% sales increase with 474,000 copies sold. Chris Brown continues to sell consistently with ‘Exclusive’, selling 176,000. Jaheim’s ‘Making Of A Man’ enters at #11 with 176,000 units shifted, whilst Lupe Fiasco’s ‘The Cool’ occupies the #15 spot with 143,000 copies sold.
Lower down the chart, Bow Wow and Omarion’s ‘Face Off’ takes a tumble – dropping 11-29 with 89,000 sold. In what must be an embarrassment for Disturbing The Peace star Chingy, the rapper’s latest LP ‘Hate It Or Love It’ came in at a dismal #84, having sold just 31, 517 copies. Ouch.

New Song: Mary J. Blige – ‘Work That’

mjb21 New Song: Mary J. Blige Work That With the release of Mary J. Blige’s album ‘Growing Pains’ drawing nearer, new material from the anticipated LP has surfaced. ‘Work That’ sees Blige proclaim a self-appreciation message. Though I’m feeling the song’s overall positivity, it sounds like an album-only track. I’m hoping the album has better material than this. ‘Growing Pains’ hits stores December 18th.

Toni Braxton Update

toni2 Toni Braxton Update Following her departure from Blackground Records earlier this year, R&B star Toni Braxton has been hard at work on her sixth studio album. Though currently untitled, the album is set for release early 2008. Most interestingly, the LP is slated to drop via J Records – reportedly Braxton’s new label. If true, it’ll be a homecoming of sorts for the ‘Unbreak My Heart’ singer, whose most successful years were when signed to Arista (now J Records). Bryan Michael Cox, Johnta Austin and Monica have all been tapped to work on the project. {Source}
Having really enjoyed Toni’s last album ‘Libra’, it’s great news to hear that she’s making new music. The ‘label did me wrong’ excuse is cited so often with artists these days, yet when you have a stellar album such as ‘Libra’ flopping, something had to be up. Here’s hoping she is successful with this new project.

Will you be checking for a Toni comeback?

Chingy ‘Hate It Or Love It’ Cover

hateitorloveitcover Chingy Hate It Or Love It Cover Rapper Chingy makes his official return to the DTP (Disturbing The Peace) fold with new album ‘Hate It Or Love It’, which drops on December 18th.
The album will be preceded by first single ‘Fly Like Me’ (ft. Amerie); the video for which will debut on BET’s Access Granted this coming Monday (19th November).

New Song: Chingy – ‘Fly Like Me’ (ft. Amerie)

1143511983 l New Song: Chingy Fly Like Me (ft. Amerie)

Since reuniting with Ludacris’ Disturbing The Peace’ collective over at Def Jam this past April, rapper Chingy has been hard at work on his fourth studio album ‘Hate It Or Love It’. This new track ‘Fly Like Me’, which features R&B songstress Amerie, is slated to be the album’s first single. Though I’m feeling this one, particularly Amerie on the hook, I’m kinda looking it as it a missed opportunity. With his sales having been on a downward spiral recently, it may have better for him to switch things up a bit, yet this seems like a typical ‘it’s good now, but I won’t care for it later’ Chingy track.

News Round-Up: Chingy, R.Kelly & Ne-Yo

Chingy Re-Joins DTP
chingy News Round Up: Chingy, R.Kelly & Ne YoMTV News is reporting that rapper Chingy has squashed his beef with Ludacris and reunited with the Disturbing Tha Peace (DTP) family. The move comes as a surprise considering the reason the St Louis rapper left the group in late 2004 -alleged money/deception issues. Although it’s unknown whether Chingy will re-join DTP at Def Jam (he’s been signed with Capitol since his departure), he is definitely back in the fold.
You had to know this was gonna happen. Since leaving DTP, Chingy has had two albums flop back-to-back; despite the moderate success of some of his singles. I’m wondering if this will make any difference to the success of his future releases?
R. Kelly New Album Cover

doubleup News Round Up: Chingy, R.Kelly & Ne YoI know R. Kelly has stated that his upcoming album ‘Double Up’ is 60% R&B and 40% Hip-Hop, but this cover is a joke. The man is 40 years old and looks like a fake thug. I’m getting the vibe that this is the direction the album is going in; I’ve heard the 2nd single ‘Blow It Up’ and it’s a mess. I know his music has always had some Hip-Hop influence, but this is coming across like a big gimmick. ‘Double-Up’ hits stores May 29th.

Ne-Yo: “Mariah’s Comeback Should Inspire Whitney”

ne4 News Round Up: Chingy, R.Kelly & Ne Yo

R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo has described new songs by Whitney Houston that he has heard as ‘impressive’. However, Ne-Yo, who is currently writing songs for Houston’s album, wants to avoid creating songs that scream ‘I am Whitney Houston and this is my triumphant comeback. Instead, he suggests that Whitney takes inspiration from Mariah Carey’s comeback; not singing about her drama, but just everyday situations.

I think he kinda has a point; most of the albums that are too message-driven often fall flat e.g. Whitney’s last album ‘Just Whitney’. Let’s just hope his tracks for the album are good.
