LeToya Performs ‘She Ain’t Got…’ Live (1st Televised Performance)

With the release of LeToya Luckett’s sophomore effort ‘Lady Love’ just days away, the singer gave the first televised performance of new single ‘She Ain’t Got’ on KTLA yesterday.
The performance itself was ‘ok’, however my biggest gripe is the lack of promotion for LeToya’s project thus far. For this to be her first televised live showing, with the album release so near by is a hot mess. This is made worse by the fact that instead of performing on BET and likewise networks and shows, she’s on KTLA (?!). I really hope Ms. Luckett’s promo picks up…fast, as she’s deserving of much better treatment.
What do you think of the performance?

Whitney’s Album Title Revealed: ‘I Look To You’

Whitney's Album Title Revealed: 'I Look To You'It has literally, literally just been announced that Whitney Houston’s ‘comeback’ album will go by the title ‘I Look To You’. As previously reported the LP will hit stores September 1st (August 31st in the UK). Exciting stuff!
In other Whitney news, Akon – in the latest issue of Rap-Up magazine spoke about working with the legendary vocalist:

Akon recorded two songs with the diva, but it’s unknown if any will make her new album. One of those songs, “Like I Never Left,” leaked to the Internet last year. “After that song leaked, they pulled that back. That was officially supposed to be a single for her as well. But we’ll see what happens.”

Hmm…interesting. So ‘Like I Never Left’ was the previous official first single. One can only wonder how the song, which I must say is a grower, would have done. I mean it wasn’t very ‘I’m back, b*tches!’, was it. Anyways, roll on September!

New Song: Sugababes – ‘Teardrops’

New Song: Sugababes - 'Teardrops'

While the Sugababes continue working on their US debut on Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label, a new cut from the ladies has surfaced. Set to feature on the forthcoming Island 50 compliation, ‘Teardrops’ is a funkified cover of Bobby Womack’s 80s hit of the same name. Keisha, Heidi and Amelle put their unique stamp on this one and the results are great. Good stuff.

Beyonce Performs ‘Halo’ On Today Show

Beyonce stopped by The Today Show earlier today to perform her current single ‘Halo’. Put simply, awesome performance – much better than her ‘Letterman’ showing earlier this week. Everything from her energy, to her adlibs and riffs, to her outstanding vocal delivery were on-point.
Tidbit: Beyonce’s new movie ‘Obsessed’ hits theatres in the US today. The movie also stars Idris Elba and Ali Larter. Will you be going to see it?

Videos: Jennifer Hudson On Tour

Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson is currently on tour in the US with R&B crooner Robin Thicke. The pair’s most recent stop was at New York’s WaMu Theatre in Madison Squared Garden. You can watch some of Jennifer’s set below:

Awesome performances! It goes to show why, as I’ve said many a time, Jennifer is one of the premier talents of today. Sans the dancers, stage theatrics and other enhancements / distractions, Jennifer still manages to be a force on stage.

Adrienne Bailon Talks Solo Deal, 3LW, Photo Scandal & More

Adrienne Bailon, formerly of 3LW and the Cheetah Girls, recently sat down with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez to discuss her time with both groups, her new solo deal with Island Def Jam, the ‘adult pictures’ which almost ended her career and more. A pretty interesting interview, one in which Adrienne comes across really well.

New Song: Beyonce – ‘Ego (ft. Kanye West) (Remix)’

The official Kanye West assisted remix for Beyonce’s ‘Ego’ surfaced over the weekend.
Having enjoyed the swagger-heavy original, I must say I’m disappointed with this. There’s nothing in the way of new vocals on Bouncy’s part and Kanye’s verse seemed lazy and long. For a  collaboration of such a magnitude, and for song that is said to be getting the single treatment, this one kinda disappoints IMO.

Madonna’s African Adoption Bid DENIED

Madonna To Adopt Another African Baby

Pop superstar Madonna, today, saw her bid to adopt another child from Malawi denied:
A Malawian court has ruled that US pop star Madonna has failed in her bid to adopt a second child from the country.
“I must decline to grant the application for the adoption of the infant,” judge Esmie Chondo said after a closed-door hearing on Friday.
The application has been rejected over residency rules.
Madonna, who flew to Malawi on Sunday, was not in court to hear the ruling over Chifundo James, three. Her lawyer said she would lodge an appeal.
The 50-year-old singer applied to adopt Chifundo James, whose name translates into English as Mercy, on Monday.
Had her application been successful, Chifundo would have been a sister to David, the first child she adopted from the African country, and her biological children Lourdes and Rocco. {Source}
While I’m pretty indifferent to Madge’s aggressive pursuit of another African baby, I’m keen to hear what you all think…

Ginuwine – ‘Last Chance’ Video

After a lengthy hiatus from the music scene, R&B singer Ginuwine is back with ‘Last Chance’, the first release from his forthcoming LP ‘A Man’s Thoughts’ (due June 2nd). The video for the Bryan Michael Cox song, which sees Lisa Raye and Tyrese make cameos, isn’t bad at all. My only gripe is that the choreography scenes come across kinda ‘1999′. Still a decent effort.

What do you think of the song / video?

Keyshia Cole Performs ‘You Complete Me’ On Leno

R&B star Keyshia Cole stopped by the Tonight Show With Jay Leno last night to perform current single ‘You Complete Me’. While the singer turned in a pretty good performance, I must say neither this single or her album ‘A Different Me’ have any appeal to me. IMO she dropped the ball with the LP’s material and the label dropped the ball with the promotion (why is she just performing this now, when the video has been out for how long??).

New Song: The Saturdays – ‘Work’

UK girl-group sensations The Saturdays are said to be lining up the roof-raising ‘Work’ as their next single. Featured on their Gold certified LP ‘Chasing Lights’, the cut is a delicious slice of Urban-Funk-Pop, which is does just enough to appeal to each audience. Great production, even better vocals (each member of the group holds their own on the vocal tip). Amazing.
Tidbit: You’ll be seeing a lot more of The Saturdays on That Grape Juice (sly grin LOL)

Beyonce Covers Ebony

Beyonce Covers EbonyR&B superstar Beyonce features on the cover of the April issue of Ebony magazine. I’m feeling most of Bouncy’s spread, yet the feature article is equally as good. Check out a preview below:

When asked who is the real Beyonce, she tells the magazine:

“I’m a daughter, I’m a friend, I’m a wife, I’m a sister. All those things first. I’m artist. I’m a businesswoman. I’m multifaceted. I’m a lover. I’m inspired by love. I make decisions from the heart.”

When she makes decisions about what projects to do, her priority is not money but personal growth.“I turn down million dollar offers all the time because it’s something that does not feel true for what I’m trying to say. I have to be passionate about it. Love inspires and growth inspires me…If it is not going to be iconic, something I can love 10 years from now, I’ve learned I should not waste my time with it.”

She says her and Jay-Z stay out of each other’s business dealings.

“He was very successful before I met him and I was very successful before I met him. So we have so much respect for each other, and respect for each other artistically. We are very close friends, and I believe he is the ultimate artist and he has the same feelings for me.”

Asked to describe herself as a wife:

“I don’t know how to talk about it because I don’t like to talk about it. But I have a great example of a great wife, and that’s my mother. And I have great friends around me that have been married, so I’m lucky to have really good examples. And a great husband.”

She says they are just like any other couple. She is learning to cook and he’s getting over his single-guy habits.

One thing she does to get on his nerve: “I’m a little messy. Oh, yeah. Whenever I’m out in public, I have to be put together. When I get home, I rebel against it and I don’t want to take care of anything. I drop it. I’m relaxed. I don’t have any shoes on. No makeup. My purse is in the kitchen. I think that is most difficult thing for him. He’s very, very organized. I’m extremely organized when I’m working, and I work so much that when I get home I don’t want to think about anything.”

As for what Jay-Z does that get on her nerves: She laughs, “I won’t say.”

She said she doing charity work such as working with women and children through shelters and organizations. She says she is mentoring and counseling them.

Asked about a quote from years ago where she said she wanted to retire by age 21. She says she could have retired at that age but now she has no intention of ever retiring.

“I’ve worked so hard on my craft, and I will never stop. I will never retire. I love it way too much.”

Aubrey O’Day’s Playboy Cover

Aubrey O'Day's Playboy Cover

Peep former Danity Kane star Aubrey O’Day’s much talked about Playboy cover finally surfaced today (with the issue itself hitting newsstands this Friday). For those wondering why exactly she looks like a few Photoshop strokes away from being a cartoon, the shoot was carried out by photographer Markus Klinko – the same man behind Mariah Carey’s laughable shoot for both ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’ & ‘E=MC2′. With that said, there’s no denying Ms.O’Day looks great.
O’Day recently spoke with MTV about the shoot. Check out an extract of the article:
“You could never imagine how empowering it is to be nude in front of cameras and have people looking at you in that way and seeing you as beautiful,” she told MTV News. “You’re seeing yourself as beautiful. I mean, a lot of the times I think I’m seen as a bad girl, and I think that’s because I’m so open.”

O’Day said that she agreed to the pictorial only after the magazine made Klinko available. He’s snapped portraits of everyone from Mariah Carey to Pamela Anderson, in addition to the cover of Beyoncé’s 2003 album Dangerously In Love, and O’Day knew he’d make her Playboy spread something to remember.

“I only agreed to do it because [Markus] was shooting it,” she said. “He is unbelievably amazing. He agreed with me that we needed to do something classy, iconic and truly beautiful. I mean, I think a lot of the type of way I’m portrayed in the media isn’t always the way I am in my heart. And I think that we were able to capture that with [this shoot].

“It’s going to be very elegant, very iconic,” she emphasized. “We wanted to do something very beautiful and classic. And I’m very excited about, just in general, how liberating the shoot was and how great it’s going to be to express myself and be comfortable with my sexuality. I think in society we tend to put ourselves in boxes and corners and restrict ourselves, and we constantly feel the need to not say this or not wear this … and taking it all off and being nude is the most natural state that you can be in.”

And what does she think her detractors will say about the Playboy spread? Well, to be honest, she doesn’t really care. Because she’s not listening.

“I’m always gonna be true, whether people like it or not. I’m just gonna be me. I’m gonna be real. I’m not gonna do anything because people want me to. I’m not gonna hide something about me,” she laughed. “I think people are scared to be who they are, and if anybody’s gonna go out there and let everybody know, ‘Be who you are … no judgment here,’ it’s gonna be me.”

More power to her, I guess…
Tidbit: The D.Woods and Dawn interviews will be rolled out later this week.
What do you think of the cover?
