Some of you may recall Janet Jackson’s ‘Discipline’, the title track to her criminally underrated album of the same name. Well, the demo version of the song, performed by the song’s writer Ne-Yo surfaced today. It’s real interesting hearing his take (essentially the original) on the record, as he really seems to channel Janet vocally with his delivery.
Note: This is a demo and the lyrics are written for Janet to perform. No rumours or messiness folks LOL!
Your favourite ‘artist’ and mine Rihanna was spotted out and about at the Italian eatery Da Silvano in New York sporting a new shaved hair do, Cassie-style.
As much as Rihanna doesn’t rock my world, it’s hard to deny her position as a fashion trendsetter. So, it’s kinda weird to now see her jumping on the shaved head bandwagon, which in itself is already full with the likes of La La Vasquez, Amelle from the Sugababes, of course Ms. Spread-Her-Legs herself Cassie and all the chicks in your local mall. I guess Ms. Fenty’s fashion-sense and image is as authentic as her music. It’s not.
As reported yesterday, Cassie new Diddy-assisted single ‘Must Be Love’ was set to premiere very soon. Well soon is today, as the track (which Diddy has gone on record to call a ‘classic’) has surfaced in it’s entirety.
While the song has a nice lil’ groove to it, it doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s run of the mill at best. What’s more, I’m still here scratching my head as to why Cassie is able to talk her way over a beat (no vocal improvement since her last time out) and yet the track is supposedly a ‘classic’. For all his past accomplishments (emphasis on the word ‘past’) on the music side of things, I really think Diddy is trying to play everyone by shoving this vocally-challenged stunner (as she is a stunner) down our throats. More than anything, though, Mr Combs is playing himself. Bad Boy, once the home of some of R&B’s greats such as 112 and Total is now reduced to artists (a term I used lightly) like Cassie. No shade on Cassie herself, but I think everything from her having a deal to releasing music, is a slap in the face to every legitimately talented artist out there on their grind trying to make it big. SMH…
Jennifer Hudson follows-up last year’s ‘Spotlight’ with new single ‘If This Isn’t Love’, the video for which premiered a few moments ago. Directed by Diane Martel, the clip has a simple concept, yet one which powerfully conveys the song’s message. I’ve grown quite fond of the song itself too.
Singer Lauryn Hill was recently interviewed by TV Maniacs, following a concert in France. The reclusive star, spoke on a number of issues including her comeback, the current state of the music industry as well as The Fugees situation.
It’s a pretty interesting interview. She wasn’t as ‘out of it’ as many would have you believe; yet I couldn’t help but notice that she rarely looked at the interviewer or into camera. Whatever it is that she’s going through, I hope she can overcome it. Having said that, she did have a few valid points.
