New Video: Donnie Klang – ‘Prisoner Of Love’

Remember Donnie Klang? Making The Band 4? Still don’t? I really can’t blame you. A victim of Diddy’s ‘no-promo-when-show-ain’t- on-air’, we’ve heard pretty much nothing from Donnie since his debut album ‘Just A Rolling Stone’ sold triple copper last year.

In any case, the 24 year old is back with new single ‘Prisoner of Love’, the video for which premiered today. Directed by The Littles, the video and the song aren’t that bad. While I remember scratching my head as to why Diddy signed him (he’s simply not good enough, plus that bootleg Justin Timberlake thing was never going to cut it), this is definitely much more in line with what Donnie should be singing IMO. As  that contrived Electro-Pop he was trying to pass off as believable the last go round was not the business.

No word yet on a title or release date for his sophomore effort…(Sam checks to see if he’s still on Bad Boy>>>he is>>>sounds about right! SMH…)

Videos: Jennifer Hudson On Tour

Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson is currently on tour in the US with R&B crooner Robin Thicke. The pair’s most recent stop was at New York’s WaMu Theatre in Madison Squared Garden. You can watch some of Jennifer’s set below:

Awesome performances! It goes to show why, as I’ve said many a time, Jennifer is one of the premier talents of today. Sans the dancers, stage theatrics and other enhancements / distractions, Jennifer still manages to be a force on stage.

Leona Lewis – ‘I Will Be’ Video

Leona Lewis’ latest video ‘I Will Be’ premiered today. The track will serve as the next release from her ‘Spirit: The Deluxe Edition’ LP (due for a US release February 3rd). About the video, (which stars Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford), it’s pretty decent. Though kinda unremarkable, which let’s face it most videos of today aren’t, it’s refreshing to see Leona in another guise, other than the ’stand in one place and look pretty balladeer’.

Nelly, Akon & Ashanti Performs ‘Body On Me’ On Leno

With Nelly’s new album ‘Brass Knuckles’ in-stores this week, the St. Louis native stopped by The Tonight With Jay Leno show last night to perform current single ‘Body On Me’, with song collaborators Akon and Ashanti.
Though I’ve heard each sound better, they all put on a pretty decent performance.

Breaking: Bernie Mac Dies Aged 50

Breaking: Bernie Mac Dies Age 50 In what is, no doubt, very sad news, comedian Bernie Mac passed away early this morning due to complications from pneumonia, his publicist has confirmed:
Bernie Mac’s publicist says the actor and comedian has died. The entertainer passed early Saturday morning at Northwestern Memorial hospital after recently being hospitalized for pneumonia.

Bernard McCullough or Bernie Mac as his fans knew him, was known for his edge and off-color comedy routines. Mac made many supporting appearances in films during the 90’s such as “Friday” and “Booty Call,” but it was his recent acting in blockbusters like the ‘Oceans Eleven’ franchise and ‘Transformers’ which rocketed the comedian to super stardom.

Mac had several movies coming out in the coming months including “Soul Men” with Isaac Hayes and Samuel L. Jackson and “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” starring Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer and Chris Rock. {Source}

Bernie has long stood as one of my favourite comedians; this is really really sad. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family.

R.I.P Bernie Mac

Below is one of my favourite performances from Bernie…some of you may have seen it already – “get some milk and cookies” LMAO!!!

The Best You Never Heard: Janet, Diddy, Craig David & Keisha White

The Best You Never Heard: Janet, Diddy, Craig David & Keisha White With the Easter break etc, there has been a succession of ’slow news days’ as of late. So I thought now would be a good time to introduce a new site feature I’ve had in mind for a while now. Set to be a once weekly feature, ‘The Best You Never Heard’ will showcase great songs that aren’t known (as much as they should be) to the masses. This week’s edition features Diddy, Janet Jackson, Craig David and Keisha White…

Diddy – Special Feeling (ft. Mika)

Lifted from Diddy’s 2006 effort ‘Press Play’, this uptempo 80’s throwback cut is perhaps the best track I’ve heard from him as an artist. Not even Diddy’s lacklustre flow can take away from this top notch production.

Listen: Special Feeling

Janet Jackson – R&B Junkie

Often overlooked due to the now-infamous ‘wardrobe malfunction’, Janet Jackson’s 2004 LP ‘Damita Jo’ is arguably one of her most solid efforts to date. ‘R&B Junkie’ is undoubtedly one of the set’s standout tracks. A funky R&B/Pop fusion, the track could easily have been a single then or even now. Good stuff.

Craig David – Take ‘Em Off
UK star Craig David is oft criticized by the UK industry for for “selling out” to the US sound, hence his current predicament (struggling on the charts). I actually have no problem with Craig’s embrace of the US sound, considering it yielded the fantastic ‘Take ‘Em Off’. The Underdogs produced song, which was in heavy rotation on UK urban radio in 2005, sounds similar to Marques Houston’s ‘Naked’…just a whole lot better.

Keisha White – The Weakness In Me

British R&B songstress Keisha White served up her best effort yet back in 2006 with her cover of Joan Armatrading’s ‘The Weakness In Me’. Sung beautifully, it’s a shame the track didn’t garner the attention it truly deserved.

Listen: The Weakness In Me

Corrine Bailey Rae’s Husband Found Dead

Corrine Bailey Rae's Husband Found Dead In what comes as unfortunate news, the husband of UK singer Corrine Bailey has been found dead in Leeds, England. See the report, via The Telegraph below:

The body of Jason Rae was discovered in a Leeds flat on Saturday.

The 32-year-old musician was a saxophonist with the Haggis Horns.

The band describe themselves on their Myspace page as “an eight-piece live funk extravaganza” who combine funk, soul, hip-hop and afrobeat with jazz virtuosity.

The group had performed with Corinne Bailey Rae, as well as other artists including Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Nightmares On Wax.

They released their debut album, Hot Damn!, last September.

A post mortem examination carried out last night proved inconclusive.

Police said they were currently awaiting the results of toxicology reports.

Officers investigating his death have arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs.

He has been released on bail pending further inquiries, West Yorkshire Police have said.

Condolences to Corrine and her husband’s family.

Janet Jackson Tidbits

janet+promo+pic+1 Janet Jackson Tidbits Taken from Janet’s recent feature in the latest issue of Billboard magazine, the pic above looks great. Judging from the recent press shots of Ms. Jackson for her new album ‘Discipline’, it appears she’s going for the ‘grown and sexy’ look. Indeed, she looks both.
A new press release I received today on ‘Discipline’ confirmed the titles (and the composers) of four tracks on the album:
* ‘Discipline’ (Written and produced by Ne-Yo)
* ‘Can’t Be Good’ (Written and produced by Ne-Yo)
* ‘Letchu Go’ (Produced by Jermaine Dupri and Co-Written with Johnta Austin)
* ‘Roller Coaster’ (Produced by Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins)
Interesting. Kinda random, I know, but I’m glad Darkchild has more than one track on the CD (he produced lead single ‘Feedback’ with newcomer D’Mile). He delivered a great, unexpected new sound with ‘Feedback’, so I’m particularly anxious to see what he’s done with Janet on ‘Roller Coaster’. Saying that, I’m hoping Janet wracks up at least a couple of writing credits on the album.
‘Discipline’ hits stores in the Europe on February 25th and the US on February 26th.

Jackson Set To Thrill London

The King of Pop - Michael JacksonMichael Jackson is set to earn millions by playing a series of concerts at London’s 02 Arena this year, according to numerous reports.
The UK’s ‘News of The World’ reports that Jackson has been tapped to play 30 shows at the venue – formerly the Millennium Dome – pocketing a whopping £30 million in the process. As of now, the official word – as per Jackson’s publicist/general manager Raymone Bain – is that ‘Discussions are continuing but nothing has been finalized at this time.’ However, other sources (including the venue’s reps) insist the shows will take place and an announcement is imminent.
Having attended the World Music Awards here in London back in 2006, I saw firsthand that there is nothing like seeing the King of Pop in the flesh. I most definitely will be snapping up tickets for this.
