Keri Hilson Performs ‘Energy’ On Yahoo Music

Undeterred by the series of push-backs her album ‘In A Perfect World’ has received, Keri Hilson continues to promote current single ‘Energy’ – more recently performing the song on Yahoo Music’s ‘Who’s Next’. Check it out :

I definitely enjoyed this performance moreso than the 106 & Park performance last week. Good stuff.

What do you think of the performance?

Remy Ma’s Lawyer: "She Did Shoot Friend"

Remy Ma's Lawyer: Remy Ma’s attorney admitted in the closing arguments of rapper’s case today that the former Terror Squad star did, in fact, shoot her friend during disagreement in July last year. Check out the report via MTV.com:

Lawyer Ivan Fisher called the shooting, which left Makeda Barnes-Joseph hospitalized, an accident. Fisher claimed Remy Ma (real name: Reminisce Smith) and Barnes-Joseph struggled over the latter’s bag when the two argued over missing money after leaving a birthday celebration for a mutual acquaintance. The former Terror Squad star accused Barnes-Joseph of pocketing upward of $3,000 in cash.

Fisher told the jury the women’s hands hit the rearview mirror of Barnes-Joseph’s car during the tussle and the gun then went off, according to AP.

“There is no other explanation for why Remy Smith would have chosen that unique moment in time to shoot her,” Fisher said.

The surprising admission was a far cry from Fisher’s opening remarks when he attempted to characterize Barnes-Joseph as a celebrity groupie who was misrepresenting the nature of the events in order to win money from the “Lean Back” rapper. In December, Barnes-Joseph filed a multimillion-dollar civil lawsuit against Remy Ma.

In July, Remy vehemently denied shooting Barnes-Joseph. When reporters gathered around the rapper’s New Jersey home, she maintained her innocence.

“I didn’t shoot my friend!” she yelled.

Jury deliberation in the case begins Tuesday. If convicted, Remy Ma could face up to 25 years in prison.

Looks like it’s a done deal for Remy. I really cannot see a jury believing her paper-thin alibi, I mean come on now. Then again, with celebs increasingly getting preferential treatment by what’s supposed to be a justice system, anything could happen.

Bajan star Rihanna performed current single ‘Shut Up & Drive’ on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday (September 13th). It’s the latest in a string of performances to promote the single – which has, thus far, underperformed on the US charts. As with most Rihanna performances, I felt it just was just ‘ok’ – although I doubt it’ll do much to push the song any further.

What do you think of the performance?

Pimp C Calls Out Ne-Yo, Russell Simmons etc

pimpc Pimp C Calls Out Ne Yo, Russell Simmons etcIn an interview with Ozone magazine, UGK’s Pimp C let rip on a number of issues – namely Ne-Yo, Russell Simmons and Atlanta. Check out extracts from the heated interview:

On Ne-Yo:

“I ain’t out here dressing up trying to be sexy licking my lips like old gay a** Ne-Yo. Licking lips and shit, n***a. Pussy d**k in the booty a** n***a wearing all that gotdamn lipgloss at their video shoots and letting n***as put makeup on their face. Yeah, I said Ne-Yo, you heard what the f**k I said. N***as putting all that lip gloss on they f**kin’ lips looking like they’ve just been eating a pork chop sandwich with no hands.”

On Russell Simmons:

“I just made peace with the lil n***a Short Dawg cause on the cool, it really wasn’t his fault. It was ol’ d**k-in-the-booty-Russell Simmons fault for not taking the message back to him and telling him to change his name. Yeah, I said ‘d**k-in-the-booty.’ I know what I’m talking about. B***h, I’ll air you out too.”

On Atlanta & The South:

“Atlanta is not the South. Atlanta is not the South, gotdamn it, when you go to Atlanta what does your clock say? When you get off the plane from Los Angeles or Texas, what time do it be over there? Atlanta is East Coast time. You n***as ain’t in the South.”

I’m in hysterics right now lol. C didn’t hold back. I don’t know what either Ne-Yo or Russell must have done to him, but he went at them hard. He’s crazy for getting mad over time zones lol. Having said that, Ne-Yo’s ‘Because of You’ vid did remind me of a MAC cosmetics ad though…

Ignorant or telling it like it is?

New Twista Single ‘Give It Up’ (ft. Pharrell)

twista 11 New Twista Single Give It Up (ft. Pharrell)This new Twista track is slated to be the first single from the Chicago rapper’s upcoming album ‘Adrenaline Rush’ (due this summer). ‘Give It Up’ was produced by the Neptunes and features Pharrell Williams from group. The song is HOT; the beat is on-point and Twista delivers with his trademark rapid-fire pace on his verses. I’m really feeling the hook as well, it’s catchy. I can see this one doing big things. The Hype Williams directed video should be debuting soon. Check out the track…

Hit or Miss?

Janet To Release New Single This Summer

sevidset1 Janet To Release New Single This Summer Pop superstar Janet Jackson is set to return to the music scene later on this year. According to her boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri, Janet will release a new single in the summer – which will be featured on the Rush Hour 3 soundtrack. The single is set to be released and promoted by Island Def Jam, where Dupri is head of the Urban division.

After the flop that was ‘20 Y.O’ (I really liked that album though), this can only be a good thing for her. Many blamed Virgin’s lack of promotion for the bad sales of ‘20 Y.O’. However Def Jam are known to promote pretty well e.g. Mariah, Ne-Yo & Rihanna. As long as she comes correct, I see no reason why she can’t be a chart-topper again.

Ne-Yo Album News + New Tracks

live 2006067 001 1147071949 Ne Yo Album News + New TracksAs you may have noticed, new tracks from Ne-Yo’s sophomore CD ‘Because of You’ have been leaking pretty quickly. Having now listened to the album in full, I can say that he has definitely managed to avoid the ’sophomore slump’ by delivering a pretty solid album. After listening to the earlier leaked tracks and snippets, I felt that Ne-Yo hadn’t really pushed himself creatively and was just dishing out more of the same. However, the album has proven me wrong as there are quite a few great songs that aren’t typically his style. Though I’m unsure whether this tops his fantasitc debut, ‘Because of You’ (due May 1st) is definitely worth a buy. Check out some of my highlights from the album (which I haven’t posted already)…
