As evidenced by the rant of ‘Believe’ beau Justin Bieber‘s manager, it’s pretty safe to say that some camps are still up-in-arms about the 2013 Grammy nominations unveiled last night.
Indeed, every year sees some scorned team or artist supporter feel “cheated” due to an absence from the nominations tally (see: Jill Scott’s rant last year), but this year marks a noted difference in that A) the male domination of categories, B) the absence of hip-hop and R&B from major categories, and C) the glaring, 2011-instated removal of “gender-specific” categories.
With only acts who released material from September 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012 eligible for consideration, the wealth of overlooked talent is earning a collective side-eye from many-a-music lover. Just ask fans of Brandy & Monica‘s ‘It All Belongs To Me’, Mary J. Blige, Lana Del Rey, Madonna, and, of course, Nicki Minaj & Justin Bieber…

Easily one of the biggest music news stories this year, Frank Ocean‘s “coming-out” letter both rocked and shocked an industry that -for all its diversity is still marred by narrow images of masculinity.
Since then, the 25 year old has (smartly) kept the focus on his music, releasing critically-acclaimed debut ‘Channel Orange’.
However, in opting to discuss the matter on his terms, the ‘Thinkin’ Bout You’ singer has opened up to GQ, addressing his decision to be frank about his sexuality in the magazine’s December issue.
An intriguing read awaits in the excerpts below…

His credits include modelling gigs for Givenchy, United Colors Of Benetton and Elle Magazine, but recent days have seen supermodel Willy Cartier take his exotic look… to Frank Ocean’s Instagram account.
Yes, if numerous snaps uploaded to the ‘Swim Good’ singers page are anything to by, the creative pair have become creative pals, sharing their friendship with the world on the ‘social outlet’ and at the GQ Men Of The Year Gala at Hollywood’s ‘Chateau Marmont‘.

A killer R&B duet in the making?
If the above snap is anything to go by, it’s just that ‘Swim Good’s Frank Ocean may be whipping up with ‘Unthinkable’ diva Alicia Keys.
Surfacing online today, the snap sees Keys and Ocean in a recording studio weeks before the launch of her new album ‘Girl On Fire’, prompting speculating Ocean is to pen cuts on the release- which also features ‘Masquerade‘ MC Nicki Minaj.

The year’s biggest newcomer. The industry’s biggest hitmaker. And Hip-Hop’s biggest superstar. Naturally, it’s a given that such a shot of Frank Ocean, Pharrell Williams, and Jay-Z was always going to make headlines.
Shared yesterday by Williams, it’s presently unknown what the trio were working on. Yet, whatever it was certainly had The Neptunes star all-fired up. Writing on Twitter after posting the pic, he said:
And neither can we! Ocean’s last hook-up with Pharrell was on the sublime ‘Sweet Life’ from his critically acclaimed ‘Channel Orange’ LP, while he recently waxed it up with Jay-Z on Watch The Throne‘s ‘No Church In The Wild’.

Frank Ocean rocks the cover of ‘Snatch’ magazine this month, in further support of his #1 album ‘Channel Orange’- which recently hit the 325,00o unit sales mark four months after release.
Taking to the international French magazine for an insightful feature on his work, it marks his latest promotional stint since performing the well loved ‘Thinking Of You‘ at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

Cop a gander of hitmakers Frank Ocean and Pharrell Williams.
The pair posed it up backstage at a Lupe Fiasco Samsung concert last night, with Neptunes star Williams writing on Twitter:
As one of the biggest producers on the planet and one of the biggest breakout stats, Williams and Ocean fused their talents on the the aptly titled ‘Sweet Life’, which features on Ocean’s critically hailed ‘Channel Orange’ LP.

Frank Ocean dedicates his latest cut ‘Blue Whale’ to his unborn daughter, released on his Tumblr page earlier on today.
Featuring some of his cleanest vocals to date, the number arrives weeks after he performed ‘Thinking Of You’ at the 2012 VMAs, and months before he’s set to enjoy the 2013 Grammy Awards, by way of his debut album ‘Channel Orange’.
