Nelly’s ‘Brass Knuckles’ Pushed Back

Nelly's 'Brass Knuckles' Pushed BackWord has it that Nelly’s latest LP ‘Brass Knuckles’ has been pushed back yet again. The St. Louis native had been set to release the album on June 24th, following a series of unmet release dates prior. The record is now slated to hit stores on August 19th. It’s worth noting that ‘Brass Knuckles’ was set to compete with efforts by The Game, G-Unit as well as Ne-Yo which were set to drop on the same date – yet all have been delayed.
I’m guessing the label are going for the 2 single approach, having already released ‘Party People’ (which seems to have peaked at #40 on the Billboard Hot 100). Here’s hoping all these push-backs don’t reach the stupendous levels seen last year by the likes of Mya, Mario etc.

New Song: Chris Brown – ‘Forever’

Chris Brown - 'Forever' R&B star Chris Brown is set to re-release his successful sophomore effort ‘Exclusive’ in June, and has lined up ‘Forever’ as the lead single. Produced by Polow Da Don, the track sees the teen singer venture into a, somewhat, different musical direction than we’re used to hearing from him; with the song sounding more Hip-Hop/Euro-Pop than his commercial R&B mainstay. Put simply, I’m not really feeling this one. While I expected more from ‘Exclusive’, the album does boast cuts that are better than this, so I’m kinda puzzled at the logic behind repackaging it.

New Song: Mario – ‘Me & My Girl’

Mario5 0 New Song: Mario Me & My GirlDespite having released his third album ‘Go!’ this past December, Mario is already prepping the follow-up, with a ‘Sometime in 2008′ released date pencilled in. This new track ‘Me & My Girl’ is said to be the first taste of what the 21 year old singer will be serving up on his new project. Though I’ve heard better from Mario (See: ‘Music For Love’…my song), this is solid R&B – which is what he does best.

New Song: Ne-Yo – Do You (Remix) (ft. Mary J. Blige)

doyouremix New Song: Ne Yo Do You (Remix) (ft. Mary J. Blige)

Though ‘Do You’ is a decent track, I was surprised it was released as the 2nd single from Ne-Yo’s ‘Because of You’ album. There are definitely better cuts on the CD that are more single worthy. However, I’m really liking this remix – which sees The Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul Mary J. Blige join Ne-Yo on the track. Mary’s verses rejuvenate what, otherwise, was a kinda boring track. Check it out…

Rihanna & Ne-Yo – ‘Hate That I Love You’

ririneyo Rihanna & Ne Yo Hate That I Love YouRihanna has dropped a new mixtape in the lead-up to the release of her new album ‘Good Girl, Gone Bad’ (I still can’t take that name seriously). This track is featured on the mixtape and will most likely make the album’s final cut. The Bajan singer spoke about working with Ne-Yo not too long ago and this seems to be the finished product.
The track, ‘Hate That I Love You’ is guitar-driven and the harmonies are very similar to most of Ne-Yo’s tracks. Same with the instrumentation; I could have sworn I heard Ne-Yo’s ‘Sexy Love’ in this track. It’s a decent song and I can see it doing well in both the Pop and R&B markets. I’m still yet to hear a Rihanna track that will be relevant in the next 5 years though.
