Watch: Jennifer Hudson Stuns With ‘Color Purple’ Cast on ‘Colbert’

Does Academy and Grammy award winner Jennifer Hudson have her sights set on Tony’s as well?  If her showing on last night’s ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ is any indication, the answer is a resounding “yes”!

Taking to ‘Colbert’ to lend a stunning rendition of ‘Push Da Button’ from the musical, Hudson (who portrays Shug Avery) and the cast gave the audience a taste of what to expect from the long-running Broadway production before its December 10th opening night.

Broadway Show Set To Open December 10th


Jennifer Hudson definitely knows how to keep her light shining bright.

After releasing third album ‘JHUD’ last year, the vocal wonder is now sharing her gift on stage in the Broadway adaptation of ‘The Color Purple’  in the role of Shug Avery. 

Due to open December 10th, the Oscar and Grammy winner is working the promo pavement in support of the show – which is currently in the preview phase.

Together with London bred talent Cynthia Erivo (who plays Celie and has performed here on That Grape Juice), Hudson tore down the house on Good Morning America this week with a spirited showing of ‘The Color Purple’ title track.

There just seems to be no pause to “brand Jennifer Hudson.”

The former ‘American Idol’ alum – hard at work for her return to musical theater via a role as Shug Avery in ‘The Color Purple’ musical – was recently named the face of fashion line New York & Co.  Representing their ‘SoHo Jeans’ collection, Hudson shared:

“What I love most about New York is the diversity. It’s a haven for individuality and I have always found that to be inspiring,’ said Hudson.  “That sort of energy affects me in all ways but especially when it comes to my style, who called the range “fashion forward, great fitting and comfortable.'”

New Video: Tyrese & Jennifer Hudson – ‘Shame’


Alcoholism, domestic abuse, and infidelity are three heavy topics addressed Tyrese‘s cinematic accompanying visual for new single ‘Shame.’

Found on his forthcoming album ‘Black Rose’ (July 10), the Warryn Campbell-produced tune sees its 60’s-inspired video get assistance from Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson (who portrays his wife).

“I have put some beautiful hearts and innocent people through hell and I’m ashamed of it,” said Tyrese about ‘Shame.’ “That’s my truth, and my truth produced this moment.”
