Jordin Sparks Sings US National Anthem At AFC Championship

American Idol alum, Jordin Sparks, performed the US national anthem, ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ in Indianapolis a few hours ago at the the AFC Championship – Jets vs Colts game.

I really enjoyed this performance. Jordin has really taken her vocals to that next level, exercising a lot more control of her pitch when belting (a minor gripe I used to have with her otherwise amazing voice). Go Jordin!

Tidbit: ‘Battlefield’ (the song) was really criminally underrated!

New Video: Steph Jones – ‘Little Drummer Boy’

Singer Steph Jones has put a fresh spin on one of the most popular Christmas classics, ‘Little Drummer Boy’. The video for the Tara Razavi/Tasha Hunter-produced track was directed by Valerie Babayan. Jones’s long-time friend Jordin Sparks also makes a surprising cameo in the clip.

Jones definitely breathed new life into this song. It is always interesting to see singers tackle Holiday standards but it is even more intriguing when they add their own flavour to the mix. From the use of the instrumentation to the studio productions, not to mention the twist of Caribbean phrasing he dropped in the verse (“little drummer bwoy”), the elements all added up to a very fun track. Good stuff.

Hot Shots: Y100’s ‘Jingle Ball 2009′

Timbaland and Brandy aka Bran’Nu rocked the stage at Y100’s ‘Jingle Ball 2009′ which was held at Fort Lauderdale’s Bank Atlantic Center last evening. Whitney Pushes Album UP & Gives Single Away For Free

Whitney Houston and her team are not playing with this ‘comeback’ of hers. Feeding off the intense buzz surrounding Houston’s ‘I Look To You’ album, Arista have made the rare move of the pushing UP the release date.

Sounds exciting, eh? Well it’s only been pushed up by one day, so will now hit stores August 31st in the US instead of the previously announced September 1st store date (it was always due in shops Internationally on the August date). Sources close to That Grape Juice are claiming that the new date has just as much to do with the high public interest and an extra day to add to the first week sales as it does the Grammy Awards. The cut off date for nomination eligibility for the 2010 Grammy’s is…you guessed it…August 31st. I really can’t fault Arista for being on top of their game with the orchestrating of Nippy’s comeback; after all there is no grander stage than the Grammy’s for Whitney’s comeback to be a done-deal – big performance and/or award clean-up – than at the biggest show of them all. Roll on January!

In other Whitney news, it has been confirmed that the song ‘I Look To You’ will also serve as the first single from the album along with the Swizz Beats produced, Alicia Keys penned ‘Million Dollar Bill’. As a gift to fans, ‘I Look To You’ is available to download free from Ms. Houston’s official website. {Click here to download}

Randomness: Today Is The Day I Graduate

*Interupting our reguarly scheduled programming lol…*

By now, I’m sure many of you will know that I make quite a conscious effort to keep my private life, just that….private. This is mainly because my main aim is to grow and push the That Grape Juice ‘brand’ to the top, as opposed to pushing “Sam” as an ‘internet personality’. Not that I have a problem with the latter (especially as it’s kinda one in the same), it’s just my preference. But anyway enough of my waffling LOL…

Today is the day I graduate! After 3 long (yet at the same time, quick) years at Brunel University studying for a degree Media & Sociology, I will feel oh-so-proud walking across that stage today knowing that I’ve done *VERY, VERY* well (pops collar!)

With That Grape Juice soaring to new heights daily, and the academic side of things tended to, the future looks bright. I really welcome this exciting new chapter in my life. Onwards and upwards…

Jennifer Hudson On The Today Show

A radiant looking Jennifer Hudson appeared on the Today Show…today LOL. The Grammy and Oscar winner stopped by to promote her tour with Robin Thicke as well as her debut self-titled LP. Aside from Jennifer’s great-as-usual performances, which you can see below, the interview with the show’s host Matt Lauer was real interesting. Interesting in that it was unnerving and totally uncalled for; despite Jennifer’s best efforts to move on to another topic, Lauer was adamant on talking about the well-documented tragedy which struck the Hudson’s last October. What an a**! Anyway, peep the performances below:

Beyonce To Perform At 2008 BET Awards

In a recent interview with XM radio, rapper Lil’ Wayne confirmed that he will be taking to the stage with Usher and Beyonce to open the 2008 BET Awards with the ‘Love In This Club’ remix:

“It was suppose to be a surprise that I and Beyonce are performing with Usher when I open up the show.”

I’m guessing he was high or something when he let the cat out of the bag; emphasis on the word ’surprise’ lol. In any case, no doubt all eyes will be on Beyonce’s showing, which will serve as a record 6 performances at the annual ceremony. It’s evident, BET know the ‘Deja Vu’ singer is a ratings winner.
