New Song: Michelle Williams – ‘Sick Of It (Remix)’

michelle 234

Check out this new remix of Destiny’s Child alumni Michelle Williams’ ‘Sick of It’, a bonus track from her critically acclaimed ‘Unexpected’ LP. While Michelle’s more recent efforts have had a very heavy Dance/Euro-Pop feel to them, the immensely talented songstress switches things up here, with what, in essence, is a Pop/Rock cut, which interestingly manages to compliment her soulful vocals. It’s quite refreshing to hear a remix which isn’t the typical DJ/Club mix. I like…I like a lot.

Day26 – ‘So Good’ Video

Despite the epic fail that was their ‘Forever In A Day’ album (which was actually pretty good), Day26 continue to press ahead with the project – today releasing the video for ‘So Good’. Definitely one for the grown folk, this serves as one of their better efforts. I’m sure the ladies will love this one.
That said, Bad Boy really are keeping these boys on a recession budget with these vids. We are in a visual age, and it’s gonna take more than these samey ‘concept’ clips, in which next to nothing is happening, to garner any interest anyone beyond their fan-base – who in total don’t seem to be able to save the guys from the terrible sales they’ve been having. It’s so sad, as all four of these guys are so talented. Yet, if things don’t change with how they are handled, they’ll become casualties of the industry. Here’s hoping the latter doesn’t become a reality.
Tidbit: Does anyone else notice how unless ‘Making The Band’ is airing, you never see or hear from these guys? SMH…

New Song: Beyonce – ‘Poison’

Beyonce - 'Poison'
A new Beyonce cut titled ‘Poison’ surfaced today as part of DJ Haze’s mixtape ‘Big R&B Ego’; I say new, however, it is not known for which album this was recorded for potential placement. Anyway, about the track; put simply the slow jam is best summed up as ‘blah’, ‘just there’, ‘uninspired’ – you get where I’m going with this.
Judging from many of the Bouncy non-album tracks we’ve heard to date, I guess it’s safe to say that Bey and her team have a knack for picking the right tracks to feature on her albums. As more times than not she delivers the goods with her LP’s and singles.

A great of That Grape Juice’s, Michelle chats with us about her role as Roxy Hart in ‘Chicago’, the performance of her ‘Unexpected’ album, Kelly leaving ‘the nest’, hair weave and so much more. Report: Brandy Dropped By Epic; Leaves Management

Brandy Dropped By Epic; Leaves ManagementOur very good friend Jawn Murray over at AOL’s Black Voices is reporting that Brandy has been let go by label Epic Records. Check out the story below:
R&B singer Brandy Norwood is in search of a new record deal.

BV Buzz has learned exclusively that the 30-year-old singer was just dropped by her label Epic Records because of the lackluster sales of from her comeback CD, ‘Human.’

Released on Dec. 8, 2008, the CD has only sold 196,509 units to date according to SoundScan.

“Her friend Brandon Creed that works as an A&R representative at Epic Records has been making calls to see if other labels would be interested in signing her,” a record company source told me.

In addition, Brandy has also parted ways with her management.

The former ‘Moesha’ star had been represented in recent months by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Management.

The McComb, Miss.-bred singer’s relationship with Roc Nation supposedly dissolved because of “creative differences.”

A rep for Roc Nation did confirm the split to BV Buzz.

“Roc Nation no longer reps Brandy,” the publicist Jana Fleishman said in an e-mail yesterday.

A source tells me that Brandy’s business relationship with Roc Nation “is what kept Epic Records from dropping her months ago.” Since the singer is no longer repped by the firm, the label “didn’t see the benefit in giving her another album.”

“She was signed to Epic when Charlie Walk was president of the label. Now that Amanda Ghost is president, she is the one who decided to let Brandy go,” the source explained.

Coincidentally, Roc Nation had also represented Ghost, who in addition to being president of Epic Records is a Grammy-nominated songwriter who has written for Beyoncé, Jordin Sparks and Shakira.

Brandy’s last CD ‘Human’ was her first release in more than four years and her debut album for Epic Records.

Prior to signing with Epic, the singer had recorded exclusively for Atlantic Records, where she released four CDs before parting ways with that label in 2005.

A rep for Brandy denied that the singer has been dropped from the label.

“They have not dropped her. We are trying to get a release from them. We’re in waiting,” her rep told me, before adding: “And Brandy and Roc Nation parted amicably.”

BV Buzz’s call to Ghost’s office was forwarded to Elisa Goldman in the publicity department. That call has gone unreturned.

A message was left for Creed as well, though he has yet to respond.{Source}

What ever is said in the weeks and months ahead by both parties, there’s no denying that this is a real sad situation for Brandy – if true, considering all the problems she’s been through over the last couple of years.

The situation really highlights the bogus state of the industry today; Ms. Norwood churns out one of last year’s best efforts with ‘Human’, yet goes on to sell the worst she has with any of her albums. All this despite being promoted relatively well, a point I feel important to note as many are oft quick to say their favourite wasn’t promoted right, yet if I recall right I remember seeing Brandy on numerous shows, as well as having her own BET special. As cut-throat as it may sound, it’s easy to see that Epic had no choice, as no sales=no money. That said, it’s real, real sad when an immensely talented artist in the form of Brandy, currently at her creative peak isn’t able to shift records, yet a whole bunch of nonsense can. SMH. Here’s hoping another label snaps her up swiftly.

Danity Kane To Appear On Making The Band Finale

Danity Kane To Appear On Making The Band FinaleAs expected with such shows, Making The Band 4 has saved the best for the last; the press release we have received about the season’s finale has stated that the all five of the original members of Danity Kane will be present. Check it out below, as well as info on Day26 and Donnie:
MTV GIVES CLOSURE TO FANS WITH ‘MAKING THE BAND 4: THE FINAL CHAPTER’
A two-part SEASON FINALE EVENT BEGINS THURSDAY, APRIL 16th AT 9PM ET/PT AND CONTINUES APRIL 23rd 9PM ET/PT

Special Appearances By Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Day26, Donnie Klang and Danity Kane Share the Same Stage for the First Time Since Their Break-Up

New York – April 14, 2009 – MTV will air a two-part season finale of hit series “Making the Band 4″ beginning Thursday, April 16th at 9pm ET/PT and ending with special event “Making the Band 4: The Final Chapter” to air Thursday, April 23rd at 9pm ET/PT. In part one, viewers will watch as Dawn and Andrea find out if they will continue their career as Bad Boy artists, when Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs reveals the fate of Danity Kane. Day26 is faced with the dilemma of moving forward even if it means that they will do so without their band mate Q. The drama culminates on April 23rd as MTV Correspondent Sway Calloway hosts part two: a special finale event. Day26 will also perform songs from their sophomore album.

The finale event will event will give viewers a chance to reflect on the most talked about moments from this season — from the separation of Danity Kane to tumultuous road taken by Day26 to complete their new album. Viewers will also watch as members of Danity Kane come together for the first time since their separation to speak directly to their fans. Donnie Klang will update fans with details about the next stage of his career.

This ought to be real, real interesting. While I’m completely thrown as to what is currently the genuine ‘reality of Danity Kane’ (good PR spin by all involved), I’m definitely hoping the ladies patch things up, if only just for the sake of their fans. That said, the wording of the press release has me thinking Dawn and Aundrea may be in line for their own Bad Boy solo careers. Whatever the case, it’s all speculation at the moment. Roll on the finale(s)…

Mary J Cast As Lead In New Tyler Perry Movie

Mary J Cast As Lead In New Tyler Perry Movie

According to Billboard, R&B royalty Mary J. Blige is set to make her foray into the acting world later this year, after being cast in Tyler Perry’s latest movie ‘I Can Do Bad All By Myself’:
Mary J. Blige is set to star in Tyler Perry’s forthcoming Lionsgate film, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself.” Scheduled for nationwide release September 11, 2009, the film also stars Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson.

Based on Perry¹s stage play of the same name, the film centers around Blige’s character Tanya, a nightclub manager, and her good friend April, played by Henson. Also part of the cast is Perry’s comedic alter ego, Madea. Principal photography is already under way at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.

Blige is also set to guest in a popular primetime television series, which will be announced at a later date. She previously appeared on HBO’s “Entourage” in 2007. The singer/songwriter is recording songs as well for the follow-up to her 2007 Matriarch/Geffen album, “Growing Pains.” The new album slated for release later this year.

More power to Mary; I’m big on Mr Perry’s film’s, so I’m really gonna be on the look out for this one. I’m definitely looking forward to the new album as well.

Jennifer Hudson – ‘If This Isn’t Love’ Video

Jennifer Hudson follows-up last year’s ‘Spotlight’ with new single ‘If This Isn’t Love’, the video for which premiered a few moments ago. Directed by Diane Martel, the clip has a simple concept, yet one which powerfully conveys the song’s message. I’ve grown quite fond of the song itself too.
