Actress Promoting New Movie ‘Blackbird’

Academy Award winner Mo’Nique is blazing the media trail this week in support of her new movie ‘Blackbird,’ which landed in theaters today.

‘The Wendy Williams Show’ was her most recent stop, and oh did it make for an interesting watch.

True to form, Williams didn’t hold back with the actress/former TV host. Indeed, she quizzed about the much reported “blackballed” incident with Lee Daniels and Mo’s initial involvement with ‘Empire.’

Ever able to hold her own, the mother of four made a marked point to explain her side of everything, at times even gesturing Williams to grant her the scope to “tell it.”

Must See: Mo’Nique & Husband Spill All About “Blackballed” Drama / Says Lee Daniels Called Halle Berry A “B*tch”

Mo’Nique is fighting vehemently for both her career and her reputation.

The star’s claim that she was told she had been “blackballed” by Hollywood has not only made headlines but has also birthed a slew of new ones.

Most notable in the midst of the mayhem has been her war of words with ‘Precious’ director Lee Daniels – the man she says informed her of her relegated status.

Unapologetic, Daniels (who is enjoying ample success with his FOX series ‘Empire’), elaborated on his statement by adding that he feels the actress/comedian ultimately “blackballed” herself by bailing on promotional duties.

Still on the rebuttal trail, Mo and her husband/manager Sidney Hicks stopped by V103 radio in Atlanta this week to tell their side of the story.

A fascinating watch, the pair expand on the reasons for rejecting the requests (from the movie studio, Oprah Winfrey, and others) to promote the film abroad.

What’s more, while suggesting that she’s the latest in a long line of “friends” Daniels has turned on, Mo’ revealed that Halle Berry has fallen foul of his favour and that she witnessed him call the ‘Extant’ actress a “b*tch.”

Mo’Nique Claps Back At Lee Daniels / Says She Wasn’t “Blackballed” & Explains “Diva Demands”

Mo’Nique has been a fixture in the headlines of late following her controversial interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

As widely covered, the ‘Precious’ star revealed that she was told by the movie’s producer, her friend Lee Daniels, that she had been “blackballed” by Hollywood.

The story has ignited ample debate, with several entities that have worked with the Oscar winner coming forward to share their difficult encounters with her and her team and citing them as reasons for her snub for the “powers that be”.

Yesterday saw the discussion crank up a notch when Daniels (who is enjoying success with new show ‘Empire’) stopped by CNN studios to elaborate on what he meant. Denying that he used the word “blackballed” when speaking with the star, he would verbatim state that Mo’Nique ultimately blackballed herself due to difficult demands from her management.

Today brought with it a fresh twist when the actress/comedian spoke with Don Lemon about the matter.

Interestingly, she clarified that she doesn’t feel she was blackballed. Instead, she asserts there weren’t demands and that the deals that came in following ‘Precious’ weren’t financially befitting.

Her interesting words below…

The Skinny On Success: Weighing In On the “Overweight Debate”

Over the past year, we at That Grape Juice have turned to the readers for their thoughts on the roles age, race, and even sexuality play in one’s success in the music industry.  Now, let’s weigh in on a heavier topic – weight.

Our culture is collectively becoming more stylized, making substance a thing of the past.  As image drives the culture, often filling media with airbrushed or digitally altered representations of “beautiful”, the standard of beauty has never been more sought.  An anomaly indeed given that statistics have proven most of the people subscribing to those very standards oft do not meet them.

So, what’s the big deal?
