Peep former nemesis’ Jay Z and Nas standing side by side just nights ago at the latter’s 38th Birthday party.
Both dressed to impress, the pair were snapped dining and drinking, sharing the company of some of Nas’ closest family and friends, which included Supermodel Tyson Beckford and ‘Sexy Love‘ performer Ne-Yo.
Rapper Nas stopped by BET’s 106th & Park to promote his new single ‘Nasty’. While there, he spoke on the passing of his friend Amy Winehouse. The wordsmith also shed light on a collaboration with Dr. Dre on his long delayed ‘Detox’ album.
New Orleans-born, Beverly Hills resident Frank Ocean is the bubbling under artist-of-the-moment, who seems to be on a meteoric rise to the big leagues. The 23-year-old affiliate of controversial rap collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) or Odd Future for short, has most recently penned a track for Beyonce (‘I Miss You’), and logged in studio time with hip-hop legend Nas and producer Pharrell Williams. The Def Jam artist is even hinting towards collaborations with Jay-Z and Kanye West.
‘Acura Integurl’
Ocean is also an accomplished songwriter. By the name of Christopher “Lonny” Breaux, he boasts credits in releases from Brandy (‘Human’), Justin Bieber (‘My World’), and John Legend (‘Revolver’). This talent led him to a deal with Island Def Jam over a year ago. There, Ocean completed his album nostalgia, ULTRA. The album shines on the basis of Frank’s knack for story telling, which is almost poetic at times, laid over tracks from left-leaning pop acts and certified rockers like Coldplay, Mr. Hudson, MGMT, and The Eagles, all presented with Brandy-esque vocal arrangments, and backing vocals.
‘Swim Good’
Yet, the album along with Frank went ignored by the company for what he alleges to be a full year. On Feb 16, the singer took matters into his own hands, releasing the LP as a free download via his tumblr as sort of a middle finger to the company. The results were nothing short of epic. nostalgia, ULTRA has received overwelmingly positive reviews from critics and some of the industries biggiest names (see above). Ocean, along with the Drake-approved The Weeknd, have been called the “new wave of R&B”. Even Chris Brown’s mini-beef sparking comment, was nothing more than a misconstrued compliment on Ocean’s artistry.
‘Novacane’
Now Def Jam is trying to make things right. Frank Ocean’s debut will be officially released as a shortened EP, nostalgia, LITE, on July 26. You can check out the full, free version here.
It appears Nas is once again at loggerheads with record label executives. The acclaimed rapper, who is no stranger to industry controversy (see: ‘Hip Hop Is Dead’, ‘Untitled’), has published an open letter to his label Def Jam – regarding the handling of his new project, ‘Lost Tapes Vol. 2′.
Estelle released two videos for her new single ‘Fall In Love’ from her upcoming ‘All Of Me’ LP today. The clips, which were directed by Sanaa Hamri, portray 2 separate feature appearances: 1 with Nas (seen above) and the other with John Legend. Peep the 2nd version of video featuring Legend below:
Estelle got by with a little help from her friends, Nas and John Legend, while shooting the video for her new single ‘Fall In Love’ in New York recently.
The pair joined the British-bred/US-based singer on the set of the clip, which was directed by Sanaa Hamri and features Jesse Williams (of Rihanna‘Russian Roulette’ notability) as the 30 year old’s love interest. More pics below…
Rapper Nas’ wallet will no doubt be feeling lighter today, following the latest ruling in his divorce settlement with ex Kelis.
TMZ report that documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court reveal that the 36 year old star has to immediately pay a sum of $47,249.42 in back-child support and $40,454 in back spousal support to the ‘Milkshake’ singer.
Worse still, the presiding judge further ordered Nas to pay $10,000 a month in spousal support until he pays off the $299,015.50 total he owes Kelis.
Wait there’s more…
Nas also has to pay 90% of Kelis’ legal fees to the tune of $155,787.28, as well as $48,549.83 to cover Kelis’ accounting expenses.
Legal analysts suggest that the rapper could have avoided such financial blows had he settled from the jump; particularly considering the fact that Kelis was repped by hotshot divorce attorney Laura Wasser.

Can you say ‘taken to the cleaners’ or what?! Wow….
The video for Beyonce’s Kanye West assisted ‘Ego (Remix)’ premiered a few hours ago on Access Granted. This recession really isn’t the business, for if you were expecting a fully-fledged new video, you’ll be bitterly disappointed. The only thing new about this, is Kanye’s edited-in scene, which essentially mirrors the original video. Blah.
Tidbit: I’ve really warmed to the original video, mainly because of the choreography, since it debuted a few weeks back.
Peep this vid of Jennifer Hudson performing ‘Love You I Do’ at a recent stop on her. Let’s just say Jennifer started the song, but didn’t quite finish it the way it was planned. LMAO. Enjoy.
Heavily pregnant R&B star Kelis, today, filed for divorce from husband of 4 years, rapper Nas. Peep the report below:
Kelis isn’t whipping up anymore milkshakes for Nas.
The pregnant R&B songstress is looking to divorce her hip-hop star hubby of more than four years, E! News confirmed Thursday.
“I can confirm that she has filed for divorce,” said a rep for Kelis, whose full name is Kelis Rogers-Jones. “We request the media to respect her privacy during this very difficult time.”
She and Nas (full name Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones) tied the knot Jan. 8, 2005, in Atlanta after a two-year engagement. The pair are expecting their first child together—a son—this summer. Nas has a teenage daughter from a previous relationship. {Source}
WOW! I can’t say I saw this one coming. After being together for so long (in Hollywood years, of course), I really saw these two as the standard-bearers of how industry relationships can stand the test of time. I’m definitely anticipating the reasons for the divorce; I can only imagine it’ll be some drama…
