New Song: Jay-Z – ‘Run This Town (ft. Rihanna & Kanye West)’ (New Single)

Jay-Z - 'Run This Town (ft. Rihanna & Kanye West)' (New Single)
With Jay-Z’s much anticipated ‘The Blueprint 3′ nearing its September 11th release, the next single to be lifted from the record ‘Run This Town’ has surfaced. Featuring former Def Jam label mates Rihanna and Kanye West, Hova has gone on record to say the track is named as such because they are the folk that ‘run’ the industry (hmm…).
While I’m feeling the track’s ‘epic’ feel, along with Jay and Kanye’s verses, I couldn’t stomach Rihanna’s part on the hook. Ms. Fenty was on her extra-nasal game on this one, which makes it a few pig-squeals away from being un-listenable. That said, the song still kinda manages to work.

New Song: Whitney Houston – ‘I Look To You’ (Snippet

A 30 second snippet of ‘I Look To You’, the R. Kelly penned title track from Whitney Houston’s comeback LP (due August 31st in the UK / September 1st in the US) has surfaced.
Wow! She *really* sounds awesome. A HUGE improvement over the vocals we heard on ‘I Didn’t Know My Own Strength’ (the version of which has since been confirmed as simply a demo and has been re-recorded). Her voice sounds rich, and while not the Whitney of ‘The Bodyguard’, her vocal soars on this. Definitely can’t wait to hear this in its entirety. Go Nippy! {Thanks Sasha!}

Keri Hilson Performs ‘Knock You Down’ On Pepsi Smash

R&B star Keri Hilson performed her smash hit single ‘Knock You Down’ on Yahoo’s Pepsi Smash recently. Ms. Keri-Baby did her thing. I enjoyed the performance.
Tidbit: Our pretty damn good interview with Keri will be quicker than you can say ‘Sam, the man, the Kelly Rowland stan’!

Beyonce – ‘Ego (Remix) (ft. Kanye West)’ Video

The video for Beyonce’s Kanye West assisted ‘Ego (Remix)’ premiered a few hours ago on Access Granted. This recession really isn’t the business, for if you were expecting a fully-fledged new video, you’ll be bitterly disappointed. The only thing new about this, is Kanye’s edited-in scene, which essentially mirrors the original video. Blah.

Tidbit:
I’ve really warmed to the original video, mainly because of the choreography, since it debuted a few weeks back.

Randomness: Michael Jackson Performs ‘Billie Jean’ At 30th Anniversary Show

While the news of Michael Jackson’s return to the stage has largely been greeted by mass positivity, there seems to be select arms of the media, as well as the public, who seem to question whether today’s Michael can still ‘thrill’ like times of past. Though being snapped in wheelchairs and looking somewhat frail in recent years hasn’t helped his cause, MJ hasn’t actually had a wack performance or flopped on the dancing tip for folk to be so steadfast in their ‘he can’t do it’ stance.
A lot of MJ’s more recent work and performances have unfairly been overlooked for one reason or the other, yet this performance of Billie Jean at his 2001/2002 30th Anniversary special, shows that even as the Michael of today he can still deliver one hell of a performance. THIS is the Michael I’m expecting to show at the London 02 this summer. This is the Michael that I really feel will silence the naysayers. Roll on July!

Happy New Year From That Grape Juice!

Happy New Year From That Grape Juice!I know it may not be 2009 just yet for all the That Grape Juice readers, but it’s January 1st 2009 here in London and I thought to check in with you guys. So I take the opportunity to wish you all a very Happy & Prosperous New Year, in which all your hopes and aspirations become a reality.

With it being almost 2 years since I conceived the idea of starting That Grape Juice, I’m kinda amazed at how great 2008 was for the site. As with this year, my personal theme for 2009 is ‘Onwards and Upwards’ – something I anticipate being the case with the site as well. I appreciate all our readers – the lovers and haters – and know you’ll stick by throughout this new year :)

Happy New Year!

Rihanna & Chris Brown Rule The Charts

Rihanna & Chris Brown Rule The Charts As the press and public alike continue to speculate on the supposed ‘relationship’ between young stars Rihanna and Chris Brown, the pair are generating a buzz elsewhere – more specifically, on this week’s charts.
According to Nielsen Soundscan, Rihanna’s ‘Disturbia’ jumps #4-#3 on the Billboard Hot 100 (hitting the top spot on the Hot Digital chart, after selling through 140,000 digital downloads this week too). Meanwhile Brown inches one spot closer to the top of the Hot 100 with ‘Forever’ climbing #3-#2.
While this is undoubtedly a major achievement for both, especially when considering this being a relatively early stage of their career, I can’t help but be left with a salty taste in my mouth. Pardon my bluntness, but both ‘Forever’ and ‘Disturbia’ are absolute garbage IMO. Both artists are capable (one more than the other) of much better material. Yet the masses seem to be eating up the rubbish served up to them. Will ‘real’…or better yet, half-decent, music ever get a chance in the contemporary musical climate? I hope so, though my thinking may just be “dum, dum, dee dum dum dum dee dum dum”. SMH…

New Song: T.I. – ‘Whatever You Like’

‘Whatever You Like’ is the first official single to be lifted from T.I.’s upcoming ‘Papertrail’ LP (due September 9th). Not to be confused with the wackness that was his collabo with Nicole Scherzinger last year, the track completely new. Check it out:

It’s pretty decent, I guess. To be honest, however, T.I. has yet to top his ‘Urban Legend’ LP material-wise IMO. it’ll be interesting to see what ‘Papertrail’ will be serving up.

Rihanna Covers Today’s Black Woman

Rihanna Covers Today's Black Woman Rihanna has hit the magazine trail once again in support of her ‘Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded’ record, this time featuring on the cover of the latest issue of ‘Today’s Black Woman’. I’ve definitely seen her look better on many of the other covers she’s graced recently. Rihanna herself, however, isn’t even the focal point of this cover for me; it’s the big sweeping tag-line ‘Fashion Icon…The Face of Beauty’. Hmmm….

What do you think of the cover?

In-Fighting Within Danity Kane?

In-Fighting Within Danity Kane? Word has it all is not well within Danity Kane at present. Check out the report via The Las Vegas Review Journal below:
It wasn’t all sweetness and light Friday for Diddy’s girl group Danity Kane. Two members of the pop group got physical backstage at the Palms before their concert at The Pearl last night. The tension was still evident when the group arrived at Privé Las Vegas (Planet Hollywood Resort) for their after-party. Dawn Richards, Aundrea Fimbres and Shannon Bex stayed on one side of the VIP Booth while Aubrey O’Day and D. Woods sat on the other posing for pictures with fans.

Hmm. Here’s hoping there’s a quick resolve to the drama, if this is true. In the meanwhile, any guesses on who the fighting pair were?

Any thoughts?
