From The Vault: Patti Labelle – ‘Over The Rainbow’

With ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ coming closer to its final episode on May 25th, many people have begun to reflect on iconic moments that occurred during its incredible 25-year run. One such moment has the honor of being this week’s From The Vault pick – Patti Labelle’s early 1990s performance of ‘Over The Rainbow’ alongside Oprah herself!

Patti absolutely nailed that performance! Her voice was (and still is) so powerful that she could have easily performed without a microphone!

I can’t think of a single younger singer today who can do what Patti did on that stage with such range, power and control. I just…

Rihanna And Maxwell Perform On ‘Oprah’

Rihanna and Maxwell took the stage on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ today. As noted earlier, Rihanna performed Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song’ and Maxwell performed his new song ‘Fistful of Tears’ from his ‘BLACKsummers’night’ album. Rihanna’s rendition is available right now on iTunes to help benefit the people of Haiti.

After watching Rihanna try to sing ‘Redemption Song’ for the second time actually took away from my first experience with the performance earlier today. Her voice sounded almost frail over the basic composition of the tune. Still, I must give her credit for improving from the renditions she gave in her earlier career. Maxwell, on the other hand, delivered solid vocals throughout, displaying what a real singer is supposed to sound like (especially when singing a high note). Check out his performance below:

Mike Tyson On Oprah Again; Reunites With Holyfield

Ms. Wifrey is killing it with these interviews; Iron Mike Tyson’s first stint on the show earlier this week was so well-received that he was invited back on for yesterday’s episode. Reaffirming her show as the one to watch, Oprah accepted a request from Evander Holyfield – who Tyson infamously bit his ear off several years ago, to speak with Tyson on the show. A great watch.

Mike Tyson On Oprah

Oprah is killing it this season with the celeb interviews, check out her insightful talk with boxing legend Mike Tyson – which aired yesterday. Iron Mike leaves no stone unturned, opening up about the recent death of his infant daughter, his abusive nature in the past, Holyfield, his wife, seven kids……HIS LIFE. A deep watch, I must say.

Mariah On Oprah (The Interview)

As well as performing on The Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday, Mariah Carey also sat down for a chat with the veteran talk show host. Along with husband Nick Cannon, Mariah spoke about their marriage, her role in the critically acclaimed movie ‘Precious’, her fragrance, as well as surprising two very…erm…excited fans. Surprisingly, very little was tackled regarding any ‘juicy’ topics (see: Eminem, Whitney) or strangely enough even her album. Anyway, check out parts 1 above and part 2 below:

Whitney Performs ‘I Didn’t Know My Own Strength’ On Oprah

The second episode of Whitney Houston’s much hyped Oprah interview aired moments ago in the US. While we’ll have the full interview up shortly, check out Whitney’s spine-tingling performance of ‘I Didn’t Know My Own Strength’ above.
Wow! Whitney nailed this! Undeniably the best live vocal showing I’ve heard from Nippy in the longest of times. To think this was shot a few days after Good Morning America makes this all the more awesome (vocal rest really does work). Here’s hoping Whitney continues to deliver such great, emotive performances. Awesome.
What do you think of the performance?

New Song: Sugababes – ‘About A Girl’ (2nd Single)

Sugababesgetsexyrightnow New Song: Sugababes About A Girl (2nd Single)

The follow-up to the Sugababes smash ‘Get Sexy’, the Red One produced ‘About A Girl’, premiered moments ago on BBC Radio 1 Chart Show. Expectantly an uptempo, the song is an Electro-Pop fusion that seems destined for the clubs. Though lacking kinda lacking lyrically (the Independent Woman cliches are a bit OTT), the song still manages to go hard and is incredibly catchy. With a killer video (perhaps even without), I envision this being B-I-G over here.
‘Sweet 7′, the ladies aptly titled 7th studio album hits stores November 23rd.
Tidbit: Loving the “Red One…Sugababes” part!

Oprah To Dedicate A Show To Michael Jackson; Mariah To Appear On Later Show

4503ac39327cf71f985688bba7d92a68 Oprah To Dedicate A Show To Michael Jackson; Mariah To Appear On Later Show

It really seems as if The Oprah Winfrey Show is set for one hell of a season. As well as the much hyped Whitney Houston interview, it has today been confirmed that the talk-show queen will dedicate an entire show to the late, great King of Pop Michael Jackson on September 16th. Mariah Carey will also be taping an episode of the show this month (September 18th). {Source 1} {Source 2}
I’m definitely itching to see the MJ episode, according to her site the show will feature never before seen outtakes from her famed interview with him in 1993. What’s more -despite Michael’s standing as one of the most prominent and influential African Americans to have lived – Ms. Winfrey has yet to publically acknowledge his death. Hence, her slant on the whole situation should be very interesting to see.
As for Mariah, I’m guessing it will be light-hearted chitter-chatter and album promo, which I’m sure means performances and all that good stuff we just love to talk about here at your favourite site and mine – That Grape Juice lol.
