With a whopping total of over 21,000 votes, the faithful fans of Aretha, Celine, Cher, Diana, Janet, Madonna, Mariah, Patti, Tina, and Whitney replied in groves to support their favorites in this showdown. One of our best yet, we asked ‘Who is the ultimate diva’? In arenas of fashion, influence, and more, you voiced your opinion on which of the aforementioned divas reigned supreme.

‘Control’ diva Janet Jackson was undoubtedly in control of this panel, sweeping most of the categories. But does she come out on top?

Hot Shots: Mariah Carey Tribute Leads BET Honors 2012 (Show Shots)

Diva Mariah Carey led the list of recipients at the 2012 BET Honors last night.

Set to air on February 13th, the show saw the singer give an impassioned speech about her storied career, as husband Nick Cannon and son Moroccan watched on.

Prior to taking to the stage, the 41 year old was honored by both Kelly Rowland and Patti Labelle, who performed ‘Fantasy’ and ‘Hero’.

The Stars Shine for ‘Evening With The Stars’ Telecast

As reported here, Patti Labelle, Jill Scott, and Marsha Ambrosius were just a few of the names lending their talents to the UNCF’s ‘An Evening With the Stars’. The event, also featuring , Musiq SoulChild, Erykah Badu, Miguel, and more, taped live on August 14th from Pasadena, but aired September 25th on BET.

Jill Scott Set For ‘An Evening With the Stars’

Jill Scott is just one of many big names in music lending support to the UNCF for this year’s ‘An Evening With the Stars’. The event, also featuring Patti Labelle, Musiq SoulChild, Estelle, Miguel, and more, is set to be taped live on August 14th from Pasadena, but will air September 25th on BET.

This year’s roster will join an illustrious list of entertainers (see: John Legend, Fantasia, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson) who have taken the stage for the UNCF cause.

Video: Lady GaGa & Patti Labelle Perform ‘Over The Rainbow’

Both advocates for the rainbow community, Lady GaGa and legendary Patti Labelle delighted the audience at the Boom Boom Room with an impromptu rendition of ‘Over The Rainbow’ earlier this week.

The private event, which was held in New York’s Standard Hotel immediately following the CFDA Awards, saw Labelle request the eccentric one’s presence on stage for a duet. 25 year old GaGa immediately obliged, joining the vocal powerhouse for what was a soaring rendition of the much loved classic.

An unlikely duo? Sure. A great performance? Damn right.

From The Vault: Patti Labelle – ‘Over The Rainbow’

With ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ coming closer to its final episode on May 25th, many people have begun to reflect on iconic moments that occurred during its incredible 25-year run. One such moment has the honor of being this week’s From The Vault pick – Patti Labelle’s early 1990s performance of ‘Over The Rainbow’ alongside Oprah herself!

Patti absolutely nailed that performance! Her voice was (and still is) so powerful that she could have easily performed without a microphone!

I can’t think of a single younger singer today who can do what Patti did on that stage with such range, power and control. I just…

Billboard Names Top 50 R&B / Hip-Hop Artists Of Past 25 Years

Music bible, Billboard have unveiled the list of the Top 50 R&B / Hip-Hop Artists of the Past 25 Years. The list, which is based solely on chart statistics, sees Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, and Usher, all occupy spots in the top ten of the tally.

New Song: Lil’ Wayne – ‘Prom Queen’

Having enjoyed much success with his ‘Tha Carter III’ LP, rapper Lil’ Wayne is currently prepping the release of a rock-inspired album called ‘The Rebirth’ (due April 7th). The record will be preceded by first single ‘Prom Queen’, which you can listen to above. While the production has enough grit to accommodate the ‘hardest’ of rappers, Wayne misses the mark with this one. From the annoying vocoder effect, to the down right embarrassing chanting of ‘Prom Queen…prom queen’, this is just…no. Hell no. Here’s hoping Wayne isn’t the one who prematurely ends his ‘winning’ streak with this garbage.

An Evening Of Stars Performances; Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson & LeToya

Last night an UNCF’s ‘An Evening Of Stars – A Tribute To Patti Labelle’ aired in the US. The show, which was filmed back in September of last year, featured performances from host of artists, including Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson and LeToya – whose live showings you can see below:

Jennifer Hudson – Somewhere Over The Rainbow

LeToya – Where You Talk About Love

Jennifer and LeToya really did their thing, nailing both of their performances (Jennifer, in particular surprised, as some of her adlibs showed me things I never thought she could do vocally). Fantasia, however, was off the charts…A-Mazing. While Fanny’s church wailing may not be to everyone’s taste, at a show honoring Patti Labelle, it certainly was apt. Great, great performances all-round. {Thanks Joanna!}

Fantasia & Jennifer Hudson Honor Patti Labelle

R&B stars Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson took to the stage the Labelle & Charles: 30th Anniversary – ‘An Evening Of Stars’ this week, a show to honor Patti Labelle’s storied career. Check out a lengthy clip of Fantasia performing ‘Lady Marmalade’ and Jennifer performing ‘Over The Rainbow’ below:

Great performances from both ladies. On a random note, it really does go to show that genuine, raw talent can be found on shows such as American Idol.

Anyway, the full show airs in the US January 24 and 25, 2009 on BET and WGN.
