Pusstcat Dolls Drama: Another Doll Speaks

kim+pcd Pusstcat Dolls Drama: Another Doll Speaks

Just when it appeared the fur from the Pussycat Dolls’ public spats had settled, member Kimberley Wyatt has opened up about the internal friction within the group:
NICOLE SCHERZINGER’s domination of the PUSSYCAT DOLLS is still causing tension within the group.
The girlband’s recent single Jai Hoh!, a worldwide smash hit, was billed as “Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger” which reportedly riled particular members.
MELODY THORNTON hit out at Nicole during a recent gig which led to rumours the band, who were a burlesque group before hitting the charts with Don’t Cha in 2005, were set to split.
However, despite playing down break-up fears, Doll KIMBERLY WYATT indicated the band, and their management, aren’t all singing from the same hymn sheet.
Kimberley said: “It’s true, there has always been a lot of focus on Nicole which has been hard to deal with sometimes.
“This group was created with a foundation, they knew exactly what they wanted and they had Nicole as the focus.
“Every video and stage performance that we’ve done, Nicole has been our leader.
“I wasn’t in videos like I wanted and wasn’t seen in the way I was hoping, which has been the same for all the other girls too.”
Kimberley says herself and the rest of the girls – ASHLEY ROBERTS, JESSICA SUTTA and Melody – are not anticipating the attention eventually being shared out.
She added: “I don’t really make any of the decisions, I’m in the group and can voice my opinions to a degree but at the end of the day it is a business and there are a lot of chefs in the kitchen that run the Pussycat Dolls.”
Kimberly is hosting dance workshops in London on July 26/27. Visit www.marksummers.com/kimberly for more information. {Source}
Hardly surprising is the fact there is friction, what is kinda shocking is how it’s being played out so publicly – while they are still together. I feel really bad for Melody, Kimberley and co (basically the one’s that aren’t Nicole), as there seems to be some kind of contractual obligation which binds the group to take on the form it does (Nicole out front and the rest way back). One has to wonder if the Dolls’ dwindling popularity and crappy sales (both of which IMO are attributable the public being fed up with the current dynamic) will cause the group to dissolve before they do it themselves. Either way, things aren’t looking too great for them…

Watch out for the announcement of Kelly’s new label very very soon….

More Pussycat Dolls Drama

Amid rumors that lead (and only) singer Nicole Scherzinger is set to leave the Pussycat Dolls soon, hence why the group’s latest singles are being officially billed as ‘Pussycat Dolls (ft. Nicole Scherzinger)’, tensions appeared to come to an all-time high during the group’s recent show in Phoenix, Arizona.
When it came to Melody’s turn to introduce herself to the audience (Melody being the darker skinned member, who can *sang*), the 24 year old proceeded to thank her fans for supporting her, even though she’s ‘never featured on any songs’ (her exact words, not mine) LMAO. Further adding, that she and Ashely Roberts (the long-haired blond, who can also hold a note) were examples of ‘never giving up on your dream’ and that ‘don’t let anyone put you down’. My girl sounded heated. This was then followed by Nicole screaming ‘say Nicole’ several times over. LOL.
Regardless of what they or their PR will say, there is clearly drama behind the scenes – and rightfully so. It’s beyond pathetic, IMO, that a voice such as Melody’s should sit wasted, regardless of whether Nicole was always meant to be the ‘star’ or not. After digging up this 2006 Blender magazine quote from Melody, I can’t help but think after 4 years she’s feeling the same thing:
How did you feel when they told you Nicole was going to be the lead singer?
How can I put it? I have an idea of what I want out of this, and I think that it’ll definitely come. I’m biding my time. Whether they want to admit it or not, we all see this as a springboard for something else. Some girls have said, “It’s my dream to be in a pop group,” and I’m like, “OK, because I want to be Mariah Carey.”
Gotta love the ‘realness’. It’s just a shame that the labels and teams which surround a lot of these groups fail to see the benefit of shining the light on more than one person. The music industry is a business, and as with any business it’s about making money. Surely, by promoting more than one talent in a group scenario, the group’s profile is made even bigger and more money is to be made via solo projects? Industry politics. Tut.

Ciara Launches ‘Fantasy Ride’ Webisodes

With the release of Ciara’s 3rd studio LP ‘Fantasy Ride’ drawing ever nearer (May 5th), the singer launched her video diary series ‘Fantasy Ride Webisodes’ today. In the first episode, we see Ciara rehearsing choreography for her promo tour, singing several new cuts acapella (including ‘Like A Surgeon’ and ‘Never Ever’) and much more. A very interesting watch I must say.
Tidbit: I guess this will silence those who question Ms. Harris’ vocal ability. That said, truth be told, she has come a long a** way vocally compared to when she first came out.

 Preview Ciaras Fantasy Ride LP

You can now preview Ciara’s hotly anticipated 3rd studio album ‘Fantasy Ride’ (due May 5th) over at Amazon.com. Say what you want, but the album is sounding like the business IMO. Judging by the clips, stand-outs (of the tracks that haven’t ‘surfaced’ in their entirety online) include ‘Tell Me What Your Name Is’ and ‘Like A Surgeon’…

LeToya’s ‘Lady Love’ Pushed Back; New Single Lined Up

letoya+lady+love+delayed LeToyas Lady Love Pushed Back; New Single Lined Up

After being serially delayed due to internal label re-structuring, LeToya Luckett’s sophomore LP  ’Lady Love’ had been finally set for a May 19th release date. However, it has been confirmed that the album has been pushed back once again and will now arrive in stores on June 16th, avoiding a chart battle with Eminem (who is releasing ‘Relapse’ on May 19th) and giving way for the release of another single.
Luckett, 28, has gone on record to confirm that the Tank produced ‘Regret’ will be the follow-up to ‘Not Anymore’ (which isn’t exactly setting the charts alight). Word has it the song is the business. I guess we’ll know in time…

New Song: Pussycat Dolls – ‘Painted Windows’

As the Pussycat Dolls ready the re-release of their ‘Doll Domination (2.0)’ LP (due April 14th), after the original tanked, a new cut from the set has surfaced called ‘Painted Windows’. Though produced by the often-stellar Darkchild (‘Feedback’,'When I Grow Up’ etc), this Euro-Pop cut is, to put it bluntly, crap. That said, the the girls do get brownie points with this as Melody can actually be heard singing something other than ‘oohh’ and ‘aahh’, it’s just a shame the song couldn’t be better.

Pussycat Dolls Perform on MuchOnDemand

The Pussycat Dolls, who are currently on tour with Britney Spears, stopped by MuchOnDemand in Toronto, Canada to perform two cuts from their sophomore LP ‘Doll Domination’ – ‘When I Grow Up’ and ‘I Hate This Part’. Peep the performances below:

I can’t say the ‘Dolls serve up much of substance these days – something evidently a factor in their less than impressive record sales of the ‘Doll Domination’ LP. Speaking of which, it’s been confirmed that the album will be re-released as ‘Doll Domination 2.0′ in April and will feature new cuts, with production by Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins.
Hmm…Crappy material aside, the actual formula of the group just feels off (Nicole and the backing dancers); people simply aren’t buying into it anymore. I say give Ms. Melody something other than random riffs and runs and they may just re-spark mass interest in themselves again. SMH…

The Saturdays Peform ‘Work’ On Ant & Dec

The Saturdays gave their first live televised performance of their latest single ‘Work’ on the Ant & Dec show about an hour ago.

Whilst I have seen better performances of the song and from the girls more generally, the performance was rousing and bursts with energy.  I am excited to see what the future holds for these talented young ladies.

Solange & PCD Perform On New Years Rockin’ Eve

Solange and the Pussycat Dolls were among the artists who took to the stage at Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve telecast, which aired last night. Peep the youngest of the Knowles clan perform ‘Sandcastle Disco’ and Nicole and them performing ‘Bottle Pop’ below:
Solange – Sandcastle Disco
Pussycat Dolls – Bottle Pop
While Solange continues to show why she is one of the more consistent talents to properly emerge from 2008 with her great performance(s), the Pussycat Dolls left a lot to be desired. I’m so sure that if I were to turn down the volume during their performances I wouldn’t be able to tell whether they were performing different songs, as their stage-show is all the same formulaic crap IMO.

Leona, Rihanna & Pussycat Dolls Perform At Royal Variety Show

The Royal Variety Performance show aired here in the UK last night on ITV1. Filmed last week, the show featured live showings from the likes of Leona Lewis, Rihanna and the Pussycat Dolls. Check out their performances below:
Leona – Run

Rihanna – Take A Bow

Pussycat Dolls – Medley

Leona nailed it! I really have not seen the hype surrounding the song, which is currently #1 on the UK chart until now. Awesome performance.

It may come as a surprise to some, but Rihanna’s sheep-like bleating wasn’t half as annoying as usual. Dare I say, she actually turned in a solid showing.

Pussycat Dolls served up more of the same. Take from that what you will.
