Ten years after Brandy & Monica’s smash ‘The Boy Is Mine’ set alight the charts, the R&B stars reunited on stage to sing the song recently at Brandy’s showcase for Atlanta’s V103 radio station event. While it was a great for the nostalgia and what not, it kinda irked me as a) I would have preferred it be on a bigger platform – i.e. something televised and not some dingy club b) Monica’s ad-libbing (which I usually like) and over singing were borderline painful. Still, it’s wonderful seeing these two onstage together once again. Watching this takes me back to a time when the R&B scene was populated by actual talented artists.

R&B songstress Brandy performed her current single ‘Right Here (Departed)’ on MTV’s TRL just a few moments ago. Put simply, Ms. Norwood nailed it! The stage presence, the adlibs, the everything! She really sounded on-point – the vocals were awesome. Her LP ‘Human’ drops December 9th via Epic/Koch.
Randomness: This definitely redeems her last live showing of the track a few days ago at the Monsterjam concert.

The video for Kanye West’s much talked about new single ‘Love Lockdown’ premiered, interestingly enough, on Ellen yesterday. Apparently artists/labels are looking to diversify into different lanes to promote their projects. Anyway, enough of my waffle…
Like the song, the video is certainly out there. ‘Out there’, in the good way, that is. I’m really liking what Kanye is serving up with this new album ‘808s & Heartbreak’ thus far, which has me definitely anticipating the LP’s release on November 25th.

Following Kanye’s debut of new single ‘Love Lockdown’ at the VMA’s last Sunday, the studio version of the cut has surfaced. With the Chi-Town rapper not actually rapping lol, this one really requires one to open their mind to ‘get it’. I’m really liking this one all the same though. Kudos to Kanye for stepping out of the box.Filed Under: Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Chris Brown, Duffy, Fergie, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Great performance! Michelle really did her thing; vocally she was on-point and the band were a great addition too.

Some of you may remember ‘Supernatural’; indeed, the track, which surfaced a few months back, is slated to feature on Ciara’s forthcoming LP ‘Fantasy Ride’. Interestingly, Mary J. Blige has put her own spin on the song, which surfaced today. Though Mary’s version is far from poor, it surprisingly doesn’t offer much in the way of improving on the original; if anything, Ciara’s offering (which you can listen to below) is better IMO.

Hit-maker Timbaland recently sat down with MTV to speak about the follow up to his 2007 LP ‘Shock Value’, which is aptly titled ‘Shock Value 2′. Beyonce, Rihanna and Jay-Z are just some of the big names the super-producer has lined up to appear on the album:“Shock Value is really like the Now [That's What I Call Music!] compilation,” he said. “That’s my goal for this — not [to showcase] me as an artist. Of course I’ll do my little part, introduce some people. It gives me room to go tour across the world. People request me. I put on a show. I put on a musical show.
“Right now, I have a song with Madonna that I didn’t put on her album. I saved [it] in case I wanna do one for me,” he revealed. “Of course I’mma do one with Beyoncé. Of course I’mma do one with Jordin Sparks, Rihanna. It’s a lot of people. I’mma do one with Jonas Brothers. I’mma try to have 10 major ones.”
On the hip-hop side, Timbo said he’s looking at T.I., already has T-Pain and expects Jay-Z. “Jay was really on the last one, but he wanted to change [the song],” he said. “I said, ‘Look, man, I gotta put out an album. You’re killing me.’ “
This, most definitely, is already shaping up to be better than its predecessor.
Randomness, I know, but wouldn’t it be something if Timbo had Beyonce and Rihanna on the same track ala ‘Scream’ with Keri Hilson and Nicole Scherzinger? Cheesy I know, but that really would be ’shocking’.

In news that will both please fans and silence some critics, the NY Daily News is reporting that Janet Jackson’s Live Nation ‘Rock Witchu Tour’ is performing well at the ticket box office:Madonna’s ticket sales may have gotten off to a slow start, but Janet Jackson’s are doing fine, claims Live Nation, their concert-tour company.
Jackson is hitting the road to promote her latest CD, “Discipline”, which hasn’t fared well on the charts since its February release.
But hopes are still high for Jackson’s tour at Live Nation, where the chairman left last week after criticism that he was paying stars too much for the return. “She’s a tour record-breaker, having grossed more than $100 million in her career”.
So why is Jackson apparently selling well while only half of the seats at Madonna’s L.A. show have been sold? Her tickets are cheaper than Madonna’s, ranging from $46 to $126 at the Izod Center in New Jersey, for example, where Jackson performs Oct. 17. And unlike Madonna, who almost always favors her new material in shows, Jackson is willing to do the fan-favorite hits.
“We’re very happy with the ticket sales,” said a Live Nation spokesman. “She hasn’t complained about us. Thank God.”
It’s great to see Janet’s Live Nation ’situation’ working out well at this early stage. There are murmurings that she may sign a similar ‘360′ deal similar to that of Jay-Z, Madonna etc with the company should the tour do well.

After yesterday’s controversial decision to acquit R. Kelly on all 14 counts of child pornography/abuse, the jury have begun speaking to the media about how and why they reached their judgement. Check out the report via MTV.com:CHICAGO — The jurors in the R. Kelly child-pornography trial didn’t doubt whether it was the singer on the tape — they just doubted whether it was the girl prosecutors said it was.
“I thought it was R. Kelly on the tape,” juror #9 said after the verdict was rendered. “I just wasn’t 100 percent on the girl.”
The five jurors who agreed to speak to the press following their not-guilty verdict said they felt the state hadn’t presented enough evidence and that having the alleged victim on the stand would have made the difference.
“The key problem was the identity of the female,” juror #23 said. “Her absence was a major lack.”
“The family was too divided,” said juror #9, who in the preliminary votes had voted for a guilty verdict. “So you had to discount the family testimony either way.”
This didn’t mean that the jurors bought all the defense arguments wholesale. The missing mole, for instance, was a non-issue, they said. They didn’t want to examine the video any further, either.
“I’ve seen that video way too many times,” juror #21 said. “The first time was too many.”
Being sequestered — and the prospect of remaining sequestered over Father’s Day — was not a factor in their quick verdict, they said.
“We wanted to go home, but we knew what we had to do,” said juror #21. Nodding in agreement was juror #40, who just earlier that day had asked to be relieved of duty.
Had he — or juror #40 — been relieved, the vote would have gone very differently, said the three alternates who were dismissed earlier in the day. Jurors 65, 73 and 72 said in a separate news conference before the verdict was rendered that they were leaning toward guilty. “My opinion leans towards that it is him with the girl in the video,” said juror #65.
Things might have also gone differently had evidence of Kelly’s marriage to a then-15-year-old Aaliyah or the criminal sexual conduct lawsuits against him been part of the case, the seated jurors said, but that was not what they were given to consider.
“I didn’t even know about that,” juror #23 said. “But as jurors, we have to act within the confines of the law and what is legally presented.”
“It’s all just speculation,” juror #21 said. “Who knows what we would have found [otherwise]?”
I’m still shocked as hell over the verdict; not so much because I think he is guilty (or innocent either, for that matter), but because the Prosecution IMO – and as I’m sure many who followed the trial will agree – argued a very compelling case. I guess time will tell what the effects, if any, there will be on Kelly’s career post-all of this.

The much anticipated video for the Pussycat Dolls new single ‘When I Grow Up’ premiered just a few short hours ago on MTV. I’m most definitely feeling this one; the video captures the essence of the song pretty well. The dance break was the business also. Tidbit: The Britney Spears cameo was axed, according to reports; however no reason was given as to why.
